徐永邦（鄭少秋飾）的生父為銀行家兼香港十大首富之一葉勝（關海山飾），但他痛恨父親當年拋妻棄子，視之為仇人，與生父不相往來。永邦自幼受養父徐堅（鮑方飾）薰陶，長大後加入警隊；堅親生子徐家立（羅嘉良飾）大學畢業後亦投身警界不久晉升為高級督察。
一宗涉及永邦同父異母弟葉永基（潘志文飾）的命案，令永邦與其上司羅子建（張智霖飾）遭停職。後得線人陳飛行（張兆輝飾）幫助，永邦替永基洗脫罪名，並與子建冰釋前嫌。永邦與子建姊羅惠芳（伍詠薇飾）發展戀情，卻波折重重。
子建與好友葉家少爺葉承康（古天樂飾）同時愛上善解人意的方巧蓉（陳松伶飾）。另外，家立被永基幼女葉曉冰（張可頤飾）深深吸引，惜曉冰只鍾情於子建；張雪凝（宣萱飾）一直暗戀家立，但家立卻不為所動。
永邦因一宗命案而無辜入獄，出獄後竟發現家立為真兇﹗家立本決意改過，但又被永邦幼弟葉永昌（李子雄飾）利用，無惡不作。葉勝為保家業，託永邦對付家立、永昌。一段段豪門家族鬥爭、兩代恩怨情仇、感情轇轕將如了斷？

Chilam张智霖这部剧里太帅了。郑少秋演技真好，收敛锋芒演个普通中年男。这部戏前一年他还在演笑看风云和台湾版楚留香。

I was thinking of not watching after the first 20 minutes. 65 episode is long, and not easy without overwriting (hopefully this would not be the case - the story dragging on and on). But the cast is too attractive/appealing. So I will continue.

小时候看的是配音版，那时候的配音也很好，都很贴人物形象很有感情很专业。但是现在喜欢看原版，觉得更对味一些，台词也是演技不可分割的一部分，更容易入戏。要是字幕是汉粤双语就更好了，还方便学粤语😂

How so (playful and ridiculed)? I know Cheung Chi-lam played the role (Kwok Ching) in TVB wuxia series Legend of Condor Heroes. And Louis Koo played that role (Yang Guo) in Return of the Condor Heroes. And Gallen Lo played the role (Yang Hong) in the Legend of Condor Hero. Who is in the role of 'modern Yang Guo' here? Yang Guo the protagonist is the son of Yang Hong. Yang Hong is the bad guy with a little bit good here and there, and good at disguising his bad. Kwok Ching is the good guy and the ultimate protagonist in both Condor series. Cheung Chi-lam in my memory is usually the protagonist in TVB series, except his very first series about mountain climbing youths. In his role as mountaineer, he has a character somewhat of a not-good nature but here and there good...a little like a redempted Yang Hong.
And who is Gu Tsai?
This series has a phenomenal cast...Adam Cheng, Kwan Hoi San, Christine Ng, Poon Chee Man, the supporting actress - don't know her real name - who plays Adam Cheng's wife (ex-wife), etc. But this series is long of 65 episodes...
But I cannot read Chinese...

The entire family treating her inhospitably. This is somewhat unusual in Hong Kong or Chinese culture --- the mother-in-law being kindest to daughter-in-law...unless she's pregnant.
