To be fair, Germany in Civ6 is actually represented as the Holy Roman Empire. So Austria IS in the game through germany. (Austria even ruled over the HRE for some time).
@@Grothgerek a) it ISN'T called the HRE but Germany which is a totally different beast (imagine talking to an italian and you say that Germany with Barbarossa is equivalent to Italy because part of Italy was part of the HRE; imagine saying to an US citizen England is the same as the US because the thirteen colonies were once part of the english empire ...) and b) Barbarossa is no Habsburg or Babenberger
@@DaRealKakarroto None of your examples even fits to the case.... Because neither did Germany control all of italy and was ruled by it, same with the US, who was just a vassal and not a important part that even ruled over GB. At best you can say, that the HRE and Austria are like Rome and Italy. And to b) you do know that most leaders dynasties aren't from the country they rule. Most dynasties are german, the same counts for the Habsburg, who are originally from swabia and the Babenberg who are from franconia.
Some random numbers I found that go to show how weirdly populated Australia is, especially compared to the USA. In the USA the top 5 cities make up about 6% of the population. In Australia the top 5 cities make up about 60% of the population. The top 2 being 40%. About 5% of Australia's landmass contains 95% of the population. This 5% is pretty much just a few areas along the coast and a few dots barely in land. Another random one is that there are twice as many kangaroos as people. (they are pests) And for my final fact, at 6:56 poland looks like Australia for some reason.
Yeah. Australia is basically a collection of five city states with some dirt that separates them. I have never been to Australia, but I always get the impression that the country is very disconnected since the populated areas are so far apart. Especially if you live in Perth.
Russia should be coloured both blue and black on the thumbnail map (5:38), as it is in fact not larger than Russia. If area(Russia) = area(Russia), then NOT area(Russia) > area(Russia).

0:40 The franks would later become France but they were still a germanic trieb, also Franconian, as far as I know, is a germanic language.. and we dont know the birth place of Karl, but rather know he lived mostly in Aachen. So 1. its very debatable if Karl the great was "french" (or german*) and 2. it would be much wiser to say that all these countries have been formed by him;
He isn't french or german, he is a frank, trying to label people from an long past age modern nationalities that didn't exist back then just doesn't make sense, you wouldn't say that Julius Caesar is Italian, wouldn't you.
Germanic does not necessarily mean German. The scandinavians are germanic but not germans. Nations and nationalities are political constructs that are not necessarily reduced to culture or language. Otherwise the Swiss and Austrians would also be Germans. Alfred the Great (founder of the House of Wessex in England) was Germanic, like Clovis, as he was Saxon. To say that the Salian Franks are not French is like saying that the Saxons who moved to England are not English. Riurik, the founding father of Russia, was of Germanic too (Scandinavian). However, it would not occur to a Swede or a German to want to appropriate him like it would not occur to a Frenchman to say that Richard Lionheart was French, even if he lived in France most of his life, is burried there and did not speak English. France is a mosaic of peoples such as the Celts (Gauls, Bretons), the Germanic (Franks, Burgundians), the Latins (Romans, later Corsicans), the Basques etc. Saint-Clotilde, for example, the wife of Clovis, was a Burgundian, one of the Germanic peoples that make up France, as were the Salian Franks. The history of France begins in 496 with the baptism of Clovis, according to historians (I don't know any who argue the contrary but if you know of any please name them), according to the Church (France is called the "Eldest Daughter of the Church" to this day) and even according to a young illiterate peasant girl who didn't have access to history books (which is one of the many miracles of her journey) named Joan of Arc . The kings of France have been crowned in Reims since clovis. Charles VII cross the enemy lines to be crowned in Reims to obtain this legitimacy. They hold the title of kings of the Franks until the 12th century and all came from the Frankish nobility from 496 until 1830. The French had even been called Franks by their enemies until the 14th century and during the crusades. Charlemagne laid the territorial foundations of Germany by subduing and uniting the Germanic tribes through conquest (he's nicknamed the «Saxons Slayer»), just as Julius Caesar did in Gaul. Before Caesar, the Gallic tribes, although belonging to the same cultural group, did not have a unitary conception of their people or their territory. Therefore, to say that Charlemagne belongs to German history is like saying that Julius Caesar belongs to French history. Charlemagne belongs to French history in the same way that Leonardo da Vinci and Dante Alighieri or Ariminius and Martin Luther belong to Italian and German history, although these nations were not formed until several centuries later. Despite the anachronism, it could be said that Italy (Romans) laid the territorial foundations for what France would become, even though historically, the baptism of Clovis is the founding act, and that France (Carolingians) did the same for Germany, even though historically the proclamation of the Holy Roman Empire by Otto I is the founding act.
The Civ 6 map is incorrect or misleading in multiple ways. Italy being yellow because of Rome means you also have to colour the Phoenician historic lands, whether that's Carthage and thus modern Tunisia, or countries in the Levant, or both yellow. Also, North-Macedonia is not in the game in another form, the Macedon and Greek (which represents Athens and Sparta for their respective leaders) civs in civ6 are all predecessors of Greece if you want to find a modern day country, Alexander's Macedon has nothing to do with North Macedonia. If you are going to say "well it's about the area, not the cultural descendance" then Belgium is in the game because it has been part of the Netherlands, Spain and France, but that's obviously a ridiculous claim as well.
Than you have stuff like Wales, which is.... yeah. As we know they are kinda there, because of othe Celtic-language civilization, right? Just ingore the fact that Celts were rather wide language group and saying that "Wales is in some form because of that" would be like saying most of Sub-Saharan Africa is in the game in some form, just because there are some Bantu civs in the game. Tbf, Civilization game doesn't make this better by having things like "Celtic Civilization" or "Native American Civlization" or "Viking Civilization" in the past.

Sweden-Norway elected a Marshal from Napoleon's army, Jean Baptiste Bernadotte, as king back in 1818. He adopted the name Karl (Charles) and became Karl/Charles XIV Bernadotte of Sweden and Karl/Charles III Bernadotte of Norway. So while France didn't create Sweden, they did help create our current monarchy.
Germany is createdy by Frankia, not France. Frankia was a French-German fusion state, similar to Kievan Rus. Poland was created by Germany in 1916. Austria made itself to an empire in 1806. The netherlands fought themselves free. Belgium is created by multiple states. The Eastern States made themselves independend.

..., Charlemagne has three possible nationalities. NONE of them are French. We don't know if he was born in Aachen or Liège. Aachen would make him German, making France and then all the other countries on the list would be of German descent. The other possibility is Liège, which would make him Belgian, which is in my opinion the funniest option. Francia is not France, West Francia evolved to eventually become France, but Charlemagne wasn't emperor of West Francia, but the entirety of Francia. Charlemagne was a Frank, which was a Germanic people that didn't even live in France. French like to claim him, but he was just as French as he was Italian, Dutch or Swiss.
The problem is that you can't give them Modern nationalities, because the current ones just didn't exist back then. If you would ask Charlemagne today what Nationality he would be, he would say Frank, not German, French or whatever. The Franks are the predecessor of many Nations, just as they were descendants of an even older one themselves, but as Time has gone on and the world changed, culture exchange, migrations, war... shaped new Countries into existing, having each their own cultural habits but still some similarities trough their common predecessor.
@@shadow_hunter1004 Franks were Germanic and they were definitely aware of that, as they could understand the saxons they were fighting in their native language, while the subjects their own empire spoke Latin or Celtic. Carolus Magnus knew Latin, but his skills were bad. Most German regions that were Frankish back then (Flamish, Dutch, Ripuarian, Rhenish, Westfalian, Hessian) , have acquired different identities, but there still is a region in Germany that identifies as Frankish "Franken". To give Karl a modern nationality is ignorant, but it is fair to point to his Germanic origin, as he was clearly not a Gaul or Italic.

Saying France created Germany is historical incorrect. The Frankish Empire, which split apart in 843 after the treaty of Verdun, was created by the Germanic tribe of the Franks. The French are descendents of the Gauls, which were of Celtic origin , but were eventually romanized

You guys should just join Germany. Problem solved.
@@poppers7317 *looks at the Netherlands and Switzerland* ... them first!

The franks would later become France but they were still a germanic trieb, also Franconian, as far as I know, is a germanic language..
and we dont know the birth place of Karl, but rather know he lived mostly in Aachen.
So 1. its very debatable if Karl the great was "french" (or german*) and 2. it would be much wiser to say that all these countries have been formed by him;
He isn't french or german, he is a frank, trying to label people from an long past age modern nationalities that didn't exist back then just doesn't make sense, you wouldn't say that Julius Caesar is Italian, wouldn't you.

Belgium is created by multiple countries, one of them is France. The French army helped to kick out the Dutch in 1830.

The Kingom of Denmark, the United Kingdom, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the Sultanate of Brunei are all missing from the "oil monarcy" map.
..., Charlemagne has three possible nationalities. French like to claim him, but he was just as French as he was Italian, Dutch or Swiss.
belgian would be cool, because Clovis was also born in Belgium, in Tournai, which was also France's first ever capital
