If you use the parametric EQ on the pod 500x this can eliminate any unwanted and irritating frequencies.. I’ve used it on all my patches .. sounds exactly how it is here in this video.
I've only started experimenting with compressors. I use the vintage preamp for my acoustic, but I've not really tried using any of the EQs. How does it sound on clean tones?
Try this: Listen to the Brit 2204 then jump to Line6 Variact'ed Plexi on 5:28. The tone is the same, isn't it? Thanks Peter this is an awesome demo! Did you use an EQ after the amp to cut off any high freq. in this video?
Blues Overdrive Yes, the tone is very similar. Remember they're both modded High gain Marshalls and I used the SM57 off axis for both. I'm glad you enjoyed the demo.Cheers.
Hi Peter! Thanks for this video series! I am after a new multifx and really want to get this pedalboard, or the rack Pro X version soon. I wanted to ask you if the 500x/Pro-X is able to react to pick pressure, as in how hard you hit the strings. My current multifx does not do that and is pretty old. I would love to have that sort of thing, but don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a new multifx unit. Thanks again.
Hi Travis, compared to the early modelers the HD500X was a fairly big step up. There are better units out there now but the POD can still hold it's own. I loved it when I had it and yes, I did find that it reacted to pick attack. I would recommend that if possible try it out. I think that for the price you're getting a lot of bang for your buck.
@@PjhSA Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it. There are a few used 500x pedalboards for sale near me that I will try out once I have the money. I really do like the 500x sound. Better amps than my Korg AX3000G.
Hello Peter! I knew your work now! Excellent, Congratulations! The patches are edited? Guitar> line6 and soundboard? I have a hd500x pod but I can not get a sound like yours? It has patches available for sale? VLW success!
Fabiano Coutinho Thanks Fabiano, Yes, I did do some work on those patches. Mainly eq. I had to work quite a bit on the PV Panama. The signal chain was as you mentioned. Gibson Les Paul - HD500X - Mixing Desk - Soundcard.
hi Peter,do you play live and what is your setup like if you do? I just found your channel last night and am addicted to your tones and riffs. I have been using an alto ts115a but seems it may be too boomy. some have recommended a ts210 instead . I know you have demos on the kemper and helix as well. I want all the amps but the endless tweaking has me frustrated.
Yes, I do play live. I've been in a full time band for about 15 years now. I also play in a duo now and then. I use different rigs for live use. I have an all analogue rig which goes to my on stage amp but I also DI out to the FOH. I also use the Helix in the duo set up which also goes straight to FOH. I also played live using my HD500X which was played through an Alto TS112 which gave excellent results. I think that the TS115 could be a bit boomy (because of the 15 inch driver) but I found that the 12 was perfect for what I wanted. It also had plenty of volume. My live set up is very simple though. I don't have lots of amps and effects in the chain when using the Helix. I try to keep things as simple as possible. I want a great clean tone, A great crunch tone and a great solo tone. I'll then use a few effects such as delay, tremelo, reverb and chorusing. I've found that by keeping my set up simple I might spend a little time balancing levels at certain venues but that's about it. These patches I created sounded pretty good into the PA that I used when doing final tweaks. If you looked at the patches they are all pretty straight forward and they work. I hope this helps.
Marshall Music SA what's your link for your website and patches again? I do have a peavey bandit transtube - do you think I would do better with pre amp models into the power amp section or regular into the clean channel (4cm) both with no cab? Thanks
www.peterhanmer.co.za - You really have to try all the different options. I've often found that selecting the "wrong" option sometimes sounds better. I had good results with playing the HD500X into the front end of my Marshall TSL with the Pod's preamp engaged (Part 5 of my series).
Marshall Music SA follow the ears. I've tried this but sometimes it's hard to be objective when you here a cranked amp and thinks it's "the tone" and then you here another amp or come back later and think it's crappy
Peter, I have a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.11.6, and am unable to locate or install any Line6 Editor that will run on that platform. Their most recent version is about 10 versions behind Apple's release process -- very frustrating, as I wanted to install your patches I downloaded after watching your great videos, but now I'm a stuck puppy! Can you help?
+MarshallMusicDirect Have you noticed when you put an eq on the right side of the chain, ths sounds seems more distorted, generally in the bad way... You're the first guy who uses EQ on the right side and sounds really good!
its not a tutorial, its a demonstration of the sounds. I saw you make the same comment on the last video in this series as well. talk about a waste of time.
I could listen to you play for hours! Thank you for these videos I just picked up the HD500x you have made my day with these tutorials! Awesome!
Thanks for the comment. Good luck with your purchase. The HD500X is a great piece of gear!

parametric EQ and the Low-Cut and High-Cut options really open the tone up compared to just selecting a stock patch and playing.

Thank you for the great video. Could you also make a video on using the looper on the POD500 and show how it works, etc. Thank you.
Great tones.
Hi Peter, are you able to post up your patch for the 2204 and Panama? Awesome demo as always!
Hey Pete
Congrats on another great video
I love that Black Panel Pete
Do you have the settings or the actual file?
thanks

Are you planning on making the patches from that video available for download on your website? I don't see any for the new packs at the moment.

Are you using the parametric EQ with the sm57 off axis and T-75 cab in these different amp demonstrations? Excellent tone and playing!
I was using that setup with most of the models. Thanks.

Great sounds. Are these patches tweeted a lot or just the stock amp and cab at default? All sounds really great.
They've been tweaked by means of eq etc. A lot of them did sound pretty good in stock form though.
Once again amazing video thank you ! Do you record straigh from pod to daw or are you connected to external audio interface from pod ?
laxtlo I go from the POD via a Yamaha mixing desk to my soundcards and then my DAW.
MarshallMusicDirect Okey thank for your answer
Please could you tell me which kind of studio monitors are you using? thank you!
Marco Monni I'm using a pair of Yamaha HS-50Ms. Cheers.

Wish I could. I'm running pc so it's very difficult to comment. Do you not have access to a pc just to be able to install that patches for now?
Hello Sir, can you tell me please if you are using your parametric eq trick on these? i bought the 99 dollar hd model pack is why im asking. thank you
+jeffrey monroe Hi Jeffrey, yes, there is eq on my patches.Cheers.
+MarshallMusicDirect Have you noticed when you put an eq on the right side of the chain, ths sounds seems more distorted, generally in the bad way...
You're the first guy who uses EQ on the right side and sounds really good!
Matt Nunes
hey are you referring to after the amp (right side)?
Yes, after the amp, not before!
Should have kept the amp names visible, throughout each section. Maybe you could do 'annotations' or whatever they call that.
Doug Cassidy Not a bad suggestion. I'll bear that in mind for future demos. Cheers.
i've hd500x and doesn't sound like this demo..
Well maybe you should go back and watch the previous parts in the series. They should help in getting a better tone from the HD500X.
This is not a demonstration. Not word about the new amps and setup. The guy is just playing.
Exactly. Playing and DEMONSTRATING some of the additional amps.
its not a tutorial, its a demonstration of the sounds. I saw you make the same comment on the last video in this series as well. talk about a waste of time.
Correct it is a sound demo not a user tutorial all of his videos are showing which sounds he is using and he is playing the heck out of them LOL
Panama is clipping as f.
No it's not.
