Chris playing on clay was quite a thing to behold. Such consistent, hard, flat groundstrokes. She ushered in the modern game with her particular style. Andrea was a slight variation of that type of game. She hit with more topspin and hit swinging volleys.

Andrea Jaegar gave a recent interview to 'The Independent' in the UK. She made some shocking allegations. She said as a young teen, she had suffered from serious and repeated sexual harassment from a female WTA official and when she complained to the WTA, they made threats against her and her family. She also recalled another incident when she'd been given alcohol at a WTA event while still a young teen, and another WTA official had driven her home and tried to take advantage. Andrea said it was one of the reasons why she retired so young. Absolutely appalling stuff. The WTA has so far said absolutely nothing, and neither have any of the other players who were around in that era.

Why would the WTA or any other player comment on it when Jaeger herself won't even state who it was? Weird that you expect that.

Did you cut and paste this in the comments of every Jaeger match?

Chris had a lull in first half of 82. She clawed herself back to number one in 1980,81 and took a break with a light schedule the first 4 months of 82 playing just 3 tournaments losing to Andrea 3 times till French open. Here Chris gets revenge for her 3 set loss at family circle cup . Chris beat Andrea 7 times to Andrea’s 3 wins .Chris never lost to Andrea after French open Sf loss( her worst performance in a slam Sf. I doubt Chris slept the night before, she appeared so tired .

When Chris got rid of her wood racquet and started taking balls on the rise by the mid-80s, she was a much better player. Not that she was too shabby here. But her game evolved.

I'm not sure she ever took balls on the rise - Chris herself said she wasn't an early ball hitter. It was a well known weakness of here that she never really remedied. In particular, it was well known on the tour that Chris didn't handle high, heavy topspin balls well. Instead of taking them on the rise, she'd back off and let the ball drop to waist height. There was a famous point at the 1989 US Open where Monica Seles hit a high heavy topspin shot and Chris backed off so much that she ended up against the stands and the ball bounced over her head.

I think she took the ball on the rise more on short, high, mid court balls later in her career, not moonballs with topspin.

Has anyone posted Jaeger's win over Evert at Hilton Head 1982? Would like to see that.

No you wouldn’t . Lol Andrea played well but everts first tournament after a 4 month break but evert is not match tough . After a very slow start chris found her grove in second set . Relieved not to be shit out she relaxed and found herself down 3-0 in the third. She started going fir shorter points trying to catch up quickly something she wouldn’t do otherwise. Like the French open loss in same year Andrea stayed back and kept ball in play and collected errors from Evert . Chris played 4-5 bad matches in her entire career . All had a reasonable reason why . Chris was most disciplined player who knew how to recharge her batteries better than most to be her best each match .
