Finally, after months of waiting, the new Kyosho USA-1 Monster Truck had arrived in the UK. This massive 1/8th brushless powerhouse is a total animal. Lock up your Clods, this thing wants blood.
Is this a basher, Clod competitor or something else? In this video, we try to find out as well as cover all aspects of the truck specs before taking it for a quick speed blast on 4S.

Man I wish Tamiya would make a Clodbuster as big as the X-Maxx. Doesn't even need to be all that fast. Need the 4ws and super big chevrons though.

This chassis is about 20 years old, and started life as the Madforce. After that many versions came like the Twinforce, the Mad Crusher, the FO-XX and several more. they always changed some minor things but the concept stayed the same.
I bought this truck in it's original form, the Madforce, and I'd say it's a very good basher. Both the nitro and electric versions are fast as f*ck and made to bash the fuck out of it.However, it has it weaknesses but once you overcome those by modding it this truck will rip. Just don't expect a body to last long :)
The intro comment and comical sound is so much funnier than it should be. 😆

Nice to see that Kyosho released a "true" monster truck in this age. I am considering getting one, but likely as a nitro.
They have been making the mad force series for 20 years now. That’s what this is. People finally care about solid axle monster trucks now. It’s not new, but it IS awesome and always will be
Agrees. Everyone takes the simple route with brushless. My brushless trucks have been sitting a while. My T Maxx is far more fun. This is my next ride. Nitro of course.
I had one of the original Kyosho monster trucks, the Double Dare. It had twin motors and was very fast but with 4WS as well it was almost impossible to control. Roll overs were a very common occurrence, particularly since the suspension was friction shocks and totally ineffective. I upgraded it to 8 Kyosho Option House oil shocks at great expense but still the truck had so many other design flaws that it put me off the Kyosho brand for a very long time!
Most definitely picking one up when they are back in stock, nitro version.
I like this new version although I had the two wheel version the Big Brute and did enjoy it quite a bit, the USA-1 and the Big Brute used similar chassis structure (electric) although they put more work in the Gas version. I was lucky enough to come across an original USA-1 but traded it for a wheelie King conversion project. I do look forward to scooping up one the new versions USA-1 in the future and it 's not even in kit form still looking forward to aftermarket hop ups others on UA-cam

Get one. Replace the shell with something else you like for when you go outside.
Nice review, good point about it not being a true re-release and I get it. With some of the models you mention, they were good cars originally. Unfortunately some of those old monster trucks were nice looking but terrible drives. For a truck, I’d prefer the modern driveabilty and durability of the new trucks with a nod to a classic - Big Brute next? Bring it on Kyosho ;-).
We were just gifted one by the infamous RC ELF. This is to me the coolest most ultimate monster truck
Congratulations and well done RCELF for helping out another RC channel. He’s been amazing this year. I like it but on 4S it’s bonkers and you will just destroy the lovely body and break an axle in no time. It wants to be and drives like an XMAXX but it can’t handle the punishment. It doesn’t drive anything like a Clod Buster, so I’m not sure what this RC is.

I am glad that it is not just me that is confused with this one. I do think that they should of come out with the original chassis but I also see why that would of been a no with the cost involved..
I think I will get a nitro version as from what I have seen it's slower and the body may live a bit longer

Yes for sure. 3S would be the best balance really as 4S is pushing it as you can see from the running footage.
Very good looking MT. From all the vids I've watched it seems to be much more durable than Kyosho monster trucks in the past. More stable too. I think that this would be a killer buy for people who don't bash too hard. Personally I would not buy this if I was in the market for a 1/8 solid axle MT. I bash pretty hard and don't think the aftermarket will support it to make it bulletproof like has happened with the losi LMT. Still I am impressed with Kyosho`s entry into this part of the hobby. Nice truck!
Replacement parts and aftermarket part availability could turn out to be an issue for this truck. I guess only time will tell.
thinking back on it, maybe this could be a truck for me. looks more durable than kyoshos past monsters

I am rollin! Didn't see that coming.
I will probably get one eventually but will wait until there are some aftermarket lexan bodies that can withstand some real abuse. I think with a good body and a few upgrades, this thing would make an amazing basher. For that price, I want to be able to actually enjoy it instead of it being a shelf queen.
Yes it does feel like it could be a basher with a few aftermarket upgrades and a different body.
There's no confusion as to what this is. It's not a basher. It's a fun runner for the park and the like. The chain won't last if bashed, and the tyres has zero grip. It's a re-imagination of the original, not a basher.
It is not how big it is that matters...it is where you drive it that counts!

I got the Inferno AMG with the same motor and ran it around for the first time this weekend. It is a BEAST. I love the center differential.
Yep it’s quick for sure. It would have been nice to have a centre diff on the USA-1.
That truck looks really nice, and goes well too, pretty fast to be honest.

Like said below, a proper MT in 10th scale. Not a basher but a general model. Knocks spots off all tamiya trucks of this kind

No doubt a great looking truck, and seemed well built, but unlike Tamiya’s products, to me putting things together is half of the fun.
Yes building a lot really makes you understand the car and value it due to your effort. Unfortunately RTR has become the dominant go to these days as people are busy and don’t have as much time.
For me, RC is 80% building and 20% driving them.

Yep it’ it a with a few modifications to except the bigger wheels and stresses.
I absolutely love these trucks I prefer the nitro one if i am honest but the electric one has alot of POWER so adjust the end points till you get used to it.

I did plan on getting a mad Van but it was delayed too much in the UK so I passed on it

Gavin, is the black grill piece removable? It looks like a licensing work-around so I’m wondering if a more realistic Chevy grill might be hiding under there
Yes it can be removed and a 3D printed one added. Not sure what’s underneath
If you want to see a big r/c, try an HPI Baja 5b. Awesome car, expensive to maintain.
If you really want to see big check out the primal RC Raminator!

I would be hard pressed to spend that much on this 'truck'...Now if it were like the original then perhaps. I mean, I get what Kyosho did and why. There's the nostalgia and all, but to really justify the price tag, for me at least, it should have been OG USA-1.
I think the transmitter is the same as the one in their Fazer EP RTR 1/10 scale vehicles. It looks just like the one that came with my AMG GT3.
And don't even get me started on the wheelie flip overs...Kyosho should have provide wheelie bars. They had to know this was going to happen. There's gonna be a lot of pissed off customers that rash their bodies, especially if they're planning to just do an initial drive then intend her as a shelf queen.
I just received my ve and wished it was bigger :/ it’s wider then a 1/10 but the length is the same so I would call it a wide 1/10 scale and it’s made in China not Japan which I’ve always thought kyosho was designed and manufactured in Japan.
I wouldn’t mind getting this or the mad van

I Love Kyosho but this is just an expensive toy... Too nice to BASH and fit into no other class.. Do other bodies fit like an X-Maxx
XMAXX is much bigger. I’m thinking of getting a mad crusher body for it but at £110 it’s a big expense for what it is.

I’m thinking of getting one for the USA1. Yep it’s the same chassis apart from a few changes to deal with the bigger wheels and the extra stress.
