The smile on your face while riding the bike says that was absolutely the right thing to do!!!!! I have watched a lot of hiker videos of the people on the AT. I would much rather see them smile than to hike 30 miles in a day. Life is so very precious, you have to enjoy it, you may never get another chance. Loved the video.
So cool!!! We love the Creeper Trail. No one looks to be enjoying the trail more than you two! Keep on rockin' it.
The very best AT vlogger on the internet. I get tired of the high production, loud music, one cloudy view after the next, you're bringing the experience to so many people, it's like we're there. I can go watch the travel channel to see high production glossy stuff. I love this channel.
Willswalkingwest...So true. There's no limit to how far this vlog can go. She has the potential to reach and exceed the current bar of excellence, as this is one of the most thorough, all-inclusive hiking vlogs ever.
I'm also really enjoying Kelly's videos. My favorite series of the season.
Really good video. You girls are having too much fun ! Thanks for showing more of Grace (love her singing!!!).
'Plot Twist', your new trail name!! LOL. Just keep being you and doing you. Enjoy the journey! That's why you are there! awesome!
So glad you are taking time to enjoy your journey Kelly. You will not be looking back with so many "I wish I had" things. I want to be 1 of the people to say congratulations when you put your hand on the monument at Katahdin.
Enjoy the journey to the fullest. Its your journey. And I am enjoying watching you enjoy. Thanks again.
Yes, Walnut Grove is the town in Little House on the Prairie.
I knew it!😂
The Little House on the Prairie town of Walnut Grove is in Minnesota though 😊
Sweet memories made Kelly! Good for you! I am so pleased with your approach to the journey vs destination. We all should make more time simply for enjoyment. Life is too short to fill with regrets. Live it up!
We rode our bikes from Whitetop Station to Damascus, several years ago. That was a fun ride. In the first mile, I began to think that the brakes would burn up. But it mellowed out and the turns became more gradual as we continued down the mountains.
Whan you see something that you would like to do, just stop and enjoy it. Don't say " I will come back when I have more time".. You normally never do. Enjoy the pleasant surprises while you can. Life will throw in enough deadlines as you get older. This is once in a lifetime. Take it ALL in!
You are the 1st AT vlogger I've seen hit the VC trail. What a great idea looked like so much fun!!!
Something I might actually consider doing myself now!
You get more impressive the further you go. Simply amazing.
Love your “ it’s a journey” attitude! Keep having fun.
Damascus is so cool. I ran my first 50k on the Creeper Trail there. Beautiful trail with a ton of bridges!
Take your time.
Enjoy the moment and experience the fun things of life .
My husband and I just did the Virginia Creeper Trail today-it was amazing!!! So glad you took the time to do it.
You'd think, but it's mostly downhill, with maybe 3 miles of actually pedaling. Maybe more, but it's a very easy and fun ride. A lot of neat stops, with things to see and do.
@@athiker7209 I was going to comment above that top part is pretty steep and like riding a motorcycle downhill. Some of the stops are new since I've been on it though.
Now that’s what call hiking w a spirit....keep hiking 👍
I love love your day 28 video Kelly..love that your spur of the moment decisions are so adventurous!! Keep the humor too😉
Kudos on biking the Creeper! It’s a beautiful trail…I love your adventurous spirit!
Good for you guys. Biking and hiking just enjoying yourselfs. Awesome
Wonderful update! Glad you are making the most of your incredible journey!
It is about the experience
You have the best attitude. Soaking up life! I came to these days because I’ve done the Grayson Highlands and Damascus. Brought back some memories. Glad I stumbled on your channel.
This one of my favorite stretches of trail! Glad to have you here!!
One of my dad's first cousins lived on Damascus Dr in Damascus VA; she probably waved at all of you AT through hikers over the years from her front porch. Her parents lived in Konnarock - at the foot of Whitetop Mtn. We used to hang out in Abingdon, Damascus, Konnarock, Hungry Mother State Park, Boone NC and Elizabethton TN during summer family reunions. Oh, how the years have flown by.
Your energy, spirit, and candor shine through and through! Thank you for sharing, added a smile to my face while spinning around in the vortex. 👍😊
Really enjoying your journey, enjoy every moment of it ❤️
So glad you enjoyed the creeper trail. I looooove Damascus, I'm very blessed to live there. I wish I was in town to get y'all some trail magic, but I'm not back until tomorrow
Looks like y’all had an amazing day. I think doing things along the hike makes your journey more special. God bless and keep on stepping
I just watched Liz Kidder's AT documentary last week!! Loved loved her videos, and it made me want to look up vlogs of someone currently hiking so I could follow along. Your channel was the first to catch my eye! ☺
Far away mountain ranges, lush forest, raging water.....just when you think it couldn't be more beautiful, you smile in the camera. I have always wanted to do this. Thanks for letting me be a part of your journey. Safe hiking.
Bike, swim, walk, boat, kayak, row, rest, eat, revel, rebel, be authentically you. That is all. Ever.
Absolutely - The Creeper Trail 'coast' - it's like all downhill - first time we did it, my kids were really young and we a bit worried about them crashing...no problems the entire trail, and then my daughter crashed in the parking lot at the end...lol
I’m glad you are having a ton of fun. Do the fun stuff
I cycled 🚲 the creeper trail about 20 yrs. ago with a Friend and my 10 yr.old son. We enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing your journey.God be your leader.
I wanted to do the Virginia Creeper so bad when I went to Damascus, but the bike rentals run out quick. Just started binge watching your hike. Really enjoying it.
Keep it up....
Thanks for sharing your journey.
Learning a lot.
Loving that you are loving the trails
Cool the grandma gatewood shoes 👍
Great job!!!!
Thanx for showing me wat FUN is all about
Cant wait for my next year AT thru hike!!!
Maybe see you all in Vt when u arrive 💪🏼🥾💪🏼🥾💪🏼🥾✌🏻
Good for you biking the trail! I think doing all the fun different things is what you’ll remember about the trail! I say bring on all the fun & unique experiences!
I absolutely love the adventure spirit. Take in every moment. Enjoy, be safe and prayers will follow 🙏
just found your channel a few days ago b/c I was walking a little on the Florida trail back in December in the big cypress. Now I saw this from when you were in Damascus, I currently work at the bike shop you guys rented from and also do guided hikes and hiker shuttles with my side company White Blaze Outdoors! Small world... enjoying watching you guys on the Florida Trail! Best of Luck
That is so cool! Would love to come back and bike it again!
You mentioned mountain laurel in an earlier video. Beginning about 8:10, you’re walking through some. Nice day!
Do you boo. Living life? That's what it's all about. In the moment, as you are. Those - not the troll comments - are what you will oneday cherish on your porch swing or in your rocker at 80. Yay you.
Good video with some good views, nice water fall, so let's keep on hiking 🚶♀️😀👌
I would have also took the bike ride!!! Great experience...and memory
Patcoulie or how jou write that, it smells heavelly!!! Hope jou sealed it safe..we wore it in the 60th!!😇
I love going to side attractions... That's half the fun of a trip! I always hated when I was a kid on a road trip and we'd see something cool to check out but parents were on a deadline so we had to miss it. Whenever I can now, we try to be flexible on vacations. :)
Amen you are absolutely right about all about the adventure ❤❤ woohoo 🙌🏽 I enjoy following along I am definitely gonna have to check out that creeper trail as I’m from Va I’ve been all over but haven’t hiked that one yet.. you should check out the C&O Canal next time to get to o come to Va that’s my favorite I’ve rehiked parts of that trail many times cuz it’s so beautiful 😻
Carpe diem!✌🏼have fun and enjoy the experience😎
I love that y'all are taking time to enjoy places and things to do along the way. Memories that will always be with you!
It's Allllways the little things...i personally call them, "Stamps on the Brain".
Dude enjoy the time out there your not in a race to Maine plus when your done you gotta go back to work lol ✌️
I'm so glad you did the Creeper Trail ride! The sections where the AT and the VCT are the same trail, but Northbound on the AT is Southbound on the VCT. So you rode northbound on the VCT and then you hiked NOBO on the AT, but you were going opposite directions. Evidently that is something we do here in SW VA. There is a 10 mile stretch of I-77 NOBO that is the same lanes as I-81 SOBO. THE VCT does continue its second half up to Abingdon, but it does not have the glorious downhill that you experienced from Whitetop (or Green Cove). I actually live 4 miles from the northern trailhead in Abingdon. I really enjoy coming along with you on this journey! God bless.
Pretty soon Kelly and Co.will be coming to Elk Garden. I've seen the place rice with magic mushrooms. Deep Gap shelter is not far from there. After traversing the flank of Mt. Rogers she will enter Grayson Highlands. Beautiful rhododendron displays there !
Glad you got to experience the Creeper Trail. Hate it was raining. I didn't think you'd detour to do it. I clicked so fast! I've only done it twice but everytime I've stopped at the Diner for lunch, its packed with about 100 or so bikers. I didn't realize how close the AT & Creeper Trails run together in that area until the last time I did it a few months ago.
Anyway, glad you're getting to actually enjoy the trip. I mean, if you're going to do something, you might as well enjoy atleast some of the joy's of it. All work & no play is no bueno! I know there is still a schedule to keep but you look so happy being able to experience things. I love it! Dope vid!
I love that you are having adventures within your adventure.
Nice to mix things up: the Virginia Creeper Trail followed by a night hike in the rain. No trouble sleeping with all that exercise. What a fun day, fueled by the Damascus Diner 😁.
Love your vids, you are having so much fun enjoy be safe
We just rode bikes off White Top last week
17 miles on a bike without doing it regularly is a new set of muscles. Impressive. That commonly produces a day or two of extra workout soreness on non-cyclists. It's cardio, vitamin D, endorphins and toning.
Am I the only one who thought about E.T. on the bike when she was following Steph with her rain jacket on?
Enjoy all that is on offer
Great video on Damascus. I was there on Sunday (June 6th) hiking the Damascus Loop (VA Creeper Trail to AT North to Iron Mountain Trail) for a break from drive from Great Smoky Mountains NP to Maryland. Great town. Safe travels and happy hiking!
Love Liz Kidder
It's about the experience. Enjoy every moment and have fun. Keep on hiking. Be safe.
Great day in VA! Hike~On~~>
And before you get to Elk Garden, you will see the awesome views from Buzzard's Rock and White Top Mountain. Our family hiked there from Elk Garden last summer. Enjoy.
That was a Jefferson salamander which on endangered list!
So cool!!
You're awesome as usual! Keep on keep'n on👍
Morning Kelly! Love the Grandma Gatewood shoes! The Creeper looked amazing and your attitude about doing stuff along the trail is awesome! You keep hiking your hike!! $5 for a BBQ sandwich! I’ll take 4! Yes Walnut Grove was in LHOTP. The Broken fiddle is a killer hostel but I agree town time does need to end at some point! Glad you made it thru the night hike in the rain, and what an epic Sponge Bob reference! Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well.
-Grateful
best yet
Whole bunch of us hiker trash hiked out of Trail Days along the Creeper. Maybe not purists, but the hike and camping along the river was fantastic, and flat!
Excellent side quest! 🖖
4:58 Kind of reminds me of the town Spectre, in Tim Burton's movie Big Fish. It’s got the same feel to it.
I really like your videos. In another video you mentioned poison ivy. It is very bad in Virginia (especially south of the Devils Brewery, on the trail). I use IvyX pre-contact solution and also their post contact wipes. For backpacking, I put a small amount of the solution in a tiny bottle (and then apply each morning) and a wipe for each day on the trail (to use post hiking). You might want to try this.
I have that stuff! Haven’t got it yet!🙌🙏
That's slick how you said Appalachian a combination of ways starting at 07:36. I also try for the same one you seem to prefer.
You made a perfect decision
I was just thinking, she's never going to get to Maine, and the you said it. 🤣 it's all good, though, it IS all about the experience! You go girl! ~L
Sometimes doing "nothing" is more important than doing something. We live under the constant pressure of deadlines, quotas, end-of-month reports, and there's always that efficiency expert saying that every minute has to be productive. Seems like you're on a merry go round and you just want to say "STOP." You want to get off just to do "nothing" for a while. To sit before a campfire and meditate, or sit and watch a sunrise, or ride a bike, or just take some time to be still, would be considered wasting time, doing nothing, by some.
I find it interesting that when the disciples returned from their first missionary trip to report to Jesus, He didn't say, "Quick, guys; not a moment to lose. Resupply and get back out there." He knew they were tired and spent and needed a break. They needed time to reboot and recover. So, of all things, he simply said, "Come apart and rest awhile." And off to the hills they went to rest and just do "nothing" for a while.
Evidently, Jesus knew that if we don't come apart, we WILL come apart... that sometimes doing "nothing" is more important than doing something. Like a bike ride on the Virginia Creeper Trail.
. . . where ever your work . . . you need to quit . . . like yesterday . . .
Thats crazy
I like the way you roll, you never know if you'll do this again, so keep taking advantage of every opportunity! Love the Dire Wolf hat btw.
I kayaked the Nolichucky in Erwin it's pretty fun.. The rapid called quarter mile was my favorite.. fun time for sure
Beautiful weather to start the hike!
Enjoy the experience and all that it offers. Hike on👍
You keep doing your thing and enjoy yourself. Remember this is for you and not all of us or the naysayers which I am sure will come out eventually. LOL!
It is YOUR Hike so you hike it the way you want to do. Me I would make notes of places I have seen because I want to get my hike done. Then I would go back and visit the place where I have seen and want to spend some time at. This could take years for me to do it. This is how I would do it.
Good you’re having fun.
Quick question , how do you deal with soar muscles while on trail ?
😊💖🐶🐶
Don’t worry about your hair just saying
I am glad to see you ladies are meat eaters. I've seen and heard about some veggie types that have had
a really hard time maintaining the energy levels you need to thru hike. Happy Trails
Your title is so cool, it sounds like a lyricist song title.....🙂
Hi Kelly,
Love your videos & commitment to walking the AT.
For my own curiosity your carrying a GPS on your shoulder strap..
If so which one is it.
Do you use your GPS to set way points or is there a trail map you down load.
Thank You
Joe
I use a garmin Inreach mini. Only use it for times when I don’t have service and send a satellite text to my mom or for emergencies. I use gut hooks and AWOL PDF on my phone for maps!
That was a nice surprise, hope I didn't ruin it for you yesterday. easiest 17 miles I'm sure you've done so far.
I’m still trying to get over just being near all the noise of the wild at night sleeping with my window open. Not ready to hike at night or sleep in a tent out there.
Cool man
So there is a trail out there for me after all???
I used to push my babies in the double-jogger on the Creeper Trail. Great memories.
I aint worried ,rock steady
Those Nacho's sure looked good. My son just got dreads
