Instead of practicing myself, I watch others practice
Nathan Lobdell love ur mental lmao
Nathan Lobdell saaaaaaame I thought it was only me lmaoo
Nathan Lobdell hahaha!! Me too
Same
Aaand lose all motivation as their level is extraterrestrial ………
As a new piano student this is the best thing I could have watched. I feel better now about how I practice. Thank you; I feel normal!
@Your Piano Guy I'm the same think he means making a lot of mistakes?Repeating sections and taking breaks? Style not the piece
@@lightofmylife1120 yes this! Mistakes, repeating sections, distracted by my phone, playing the bits I like, stopping and staring at keyboard, going back to the tricky parts. I thought I was terrible at practice. I'm in no way anywhere near this level but it's facinating to watch how 'proper' pianists practice.
I'm new too...1 yr so far...i'm 67 so I'm having hard time picking up things...is what happens when you get older. I'm lucky to have found a teacher who is willing to teach older person...she tells me that practicing scales is like taking vitamins...and practicing my musical numbers is like eating a good meal...and then just playing the piano is the dessert! I HATE vitamins, but...muscle memory is for reals!
I've learned Prelude and Fugue in C major in 3 months! Love it.
Elaine Blows right! I'm a clarinet player... and this is refreshing to me too!
Just started classic like... 3 months ago. Still baby
"I can never play both hands together"...that's a priceless comment coming from a concert pianist. Lol.
"Did anyone text me? Nope." this is my life.
Usually a 15% battery warning lol
Hi Tiffany I just LOVE to see you practice. You are so determined and dedicated. You are an inspiration. Thanks ❤️
omg! the voice teacher
Agree
When seeing a professional practice, I feel much more motivated to practice.
I feel unmotivated
Me too
Love these practice vids. Watching you practice makes me want to practice :)
same bro
Auntwanette White well said
Q&A-question: How not to get angry with yourself while practicing the same thing over and over again (perfect example in the video). Also, I'm far below your level so sometimes it's really frustrating for me to play something, knowing that it is supposed to sound way better.
Lucas Hang in there! Don’t force yourself to sound the way it’s supposed to be. The people who got themselves there didn’t do that either. Take your time and you will get it!
I am a performer, although not in her class and I can assure you that losing your temper and even smashing the keys does occasionally happen. Usually after about 30 minutes of not getting that scale right. So you're not on your own!
Phillip Jimenez thank you this is very helpful!!!
Jordan Schlansky very interesting!! Will have to look at some scores later!! thank you
Lucas This is not the best way for most people to practice. Never play past a mistake and deconstruct the problem SLOWLY and once it is fixed increase the speed and play out from the trouble spot in both directions. You’ll save hours and hours of time practicing
If you're feeling pain, you are either on the brink of or are injured. If you continue the play while feeling pain, you could do some serious damage. And sometimes it's career ending too, or at least ending for a while. Please take care of yourself! You only get two hands and I would hate to see another talented pianist suffer the fate of serious injury.
Ultimately, pain while playing can result from being too tense. Tension is very difficult to get rid of, especially when you are used to it. I want nothing but the best for you and I myself am injured in my right hand. It's minor but taking a very long time to heal. So this is why I made this comment.
Having a window into the prep side gives a deeper appreciation for how performance artists hone their skill. Very exciting! Hope to see more.
Excellent video! Technical practice is so important and it is wonderful to watch you work. You’re so consistently honest as an artist. Love it
you have set such a high standard to yourself, I enjoy watching you practising
i think she is one of the best of the world , she learn very well to
Here are some of my ideas for your future vlogs:
-Your opinion on other genres of music
-Your life outside of piano and classical music
-Other interests of yours
-Your opinion on digital pianos
These are just my ideas, don't feel like you have to this if you don't want to
Blanked.
By the end of my high school sophomore year (three years, 10-12th back in the early 60's), I managed to work my way from first in the third section to one of the last three!!! Lost a lot of chair position challenges, so I was pretty much written off as a "threat".
We had eighteen clarinets in our concert band of a 100. We were one of the top high school bands in the country (marched in three Macy's Thanksgiving parades, three Rose Bowl parades, honor's band for Wisconsin Day during the 1964 New York World's Fair, Washington D.C.Cherry Blossom Festival and a couple of Walt Disney World Electric Light Parades.
That summer, all on my own (no parents involved), I decided that I would practice EVERY day during summer vacation (for the record, I was not a clarinet geek), not only one hour a day or two hours a day, but three hours a day, seven days a week.
I skipped our family vacation up North to not miss any practice. I had summer practices and tournaments for my high school tennis team, earned my American Red Cross certified Jr. and Sr. lifesaving cards, did parental assigned yard work and exterior house painting.
I didn't care how the practicing was going. I just knew by fall I would be much improved.
After fall marching season we had chair tryouts. My band director was the kind of person who "knew" where a player would most likely be placed ahead of time.
I was in the band room the afternoon before our tryouts were to be the next day and he had already placed names on the chairs for sitting assignments for our first concert rehearsal the following day.
He moved me up from being third last chair (out of eight in the third section, to first in the second section) having no knowledge of what I had accomplished over the summer (very generous of him).
But I blew him away and I was placed last in the first section. I challenged the guy in front of me (a Jr.), beat him and was now the top Jr.
I was the the first chair as a Sr. Got to play all the solo clarinet parts of the band music (we did the full "Rhapsody in Blue" with the famous exposed clarinet "smear" plus others solos).
It's all about PRACTICE!!!
You may wake-up now, I've finished my little story.
Thanks for those managed to read it all.
Sometimes I also wish that my left hand would just stop being so stupid and start being smarter, he always messes things up
I love this kind of video! It's amazing to see how you spot every little thing you feel that you can do better🤔
Her determination and discipline is amazing - but my favorite sound was her saying ... “I’ll keep playing because I love this part” THAT is why she is incredible
One of the sweetest pianist
She was unhappy, and I was like "Damn her fingers are moving fast" and then I saw "under tempo" and I was like "well then."
You give me hope
"Lazy left hand" I thought geez what do you mean lol
With that red scarf you remind me of "Mikasa" from "Attack on Titan" anime.
No words to describe how genius you are! And I love your outfit 💓
Wonderful to see a true virtuosos practice. She is practicing fragments and sections AT FULL TEMPO 90% of the time, and very minimal slow practice, and when she does the slow practice she, quickly reintegrates into fast practice. This was invaluable. Thank you for sharing.
I detect... either genuine praise or dripping sarcasm in this comment
@@tyu3456 it's praise. Have no clue as to how one might detect or judge to be sarcasm in that comment
Every beautiful interpretation comes from practice, important to see
I love those who work hard and never give up, you are a positive example, a real shining star, a very rare person in this world, a real unique and lovely one, thank you so much for sharing your moments to us, who are just watching this and wondering, how to do things that way too :)
That red scarf rocks! Hugh contrast when playing piano, lol
Currently working my way through Clair de lune... so inspiring watching you play and practise... going to try hard practising tomorrow myself!
Me after learning a new song:yay I’m the best
Me watching this video:i quit
Watching you practice is both satisfying and exciting!
I wonder, but I enjoy watching you practicing more than watching professional TV shows. It motivates me to come back to my own grand piano. Thank you Tiffany, you are wonderful.
Well done, Tiffany! I was kind of holding back practicing this piece, but I think I should pick it up soon. I actually just got done running through Un Sospiro a bunch to fix any technical issues. Anyways, love your videos Tiffany, keep up the good work. 😊
Very inspiring
Tiffany, your scales and everything else in this piece are fabulous. Not many pianists can produce scales like that.
Seymour Bernstein
Wow there's special scales just for Liszt? So interesting. In Budapest I went to the Liszt Museum and saw a few of his pianos. He even had one built into his desk! A keyboard, anyway. It was a really cool museum. I think it was in one of his former residences. Anyway's knock 'em dead in Singapore, I know you will.
Thata from a piece from Liszt. You can clearly see the sheet music on the Piano
I’m watching his to hopefully encourage myself to practice
Wie viele Playlisten du hast 😅
Another great one! I watch your vlogs and always remember your mission-to get as many people to be interested in classical music. Your authenticity and honesty really come through in these drill-types of vlogs. The brute straight-forward presentation is effective to reinforce your advice to just keep striving. Vlogs like these are real, unpolished and reach the hearts of all of us. Those who are already proficient in piano and appreciate classical music don’t need to be reached. Your way positively affects many novices to this genre and those who may be struggling and may be on the verge of giving up. Your methods encourage people. Well, that’s my 2 cents-worth! Thanks for sharing.
Liszt is my favourite composer! ❤️
His pieces demand so much practising... However, you're able to play them beautifully as you play the piano exceptionally well. :)
I admire your level of dedication. I've shown your channel to a few of my students in hopes that you will inspire them. Thank you for these fun videos!
1) once you get it right, does it stay right? how much maintenance required.?
2) we all have favorite parts, what about the parts you simply don't like?
3) RE: Anton R. & Bee don't sweat the missing/wrong notes, just be sure to play from the heart - that's all that matters.
4) your practice vlogs provide insight into your persona that we would never get any other way! YGG!
5) I wish I had better friends....
It sounds wonderful Tiffany, absolutely wonderful! Keep at it, you'll definitely get it the way you want to sound! Best of luck with your recital, you'll do amazing. Always looking up to you for inspiration, thank you for being the talent you are.
I love watching you. I had a stroke recently and lost use of my side so I can no longer play. I do get some joy in your vids and am grateful.
Gws, eat healthy and keep practicing your body 😊
That's literally incredible
How you get acces to a Steinway piano?? Wow I'm so impress, for me it would be a dream to play one of these.
Every university music program has 10's of top level grands for their students.
Very common at most American colleges and universities - they have partnered w/ large number of schools, similar to what Apple did with elementary and secondary schools in the 80s. It's also a way for music programs to sell themselves - mainly Steinway or Yamahas
James Rawlins oh wow did not know that! thank you!!
James Rawlins
Steinway and Yamaha are great brands, but their marketing departments seemingly have a monopoly on exposure to buyers and therefore a greater access to the general public. As a result, many find it hard to consider other brands besides these two. It seems almost unfair.
@@biffii5568 haha, I wish mine did.. lol..
Okay I'm glad I'm not the only one with a stubborn left hand 😂
It's refreshing to see such a talented pianist document how she starts off practicing as well and that she makes mistakes.
3:19 OMG I ALSO DO THE THIGH DRUMMING WHEN I WANNA MOTIVATE MYSELF
Me too xD
You did it Tiffany ! Wonderful you share this moment with me you when you did !
I love to see you practicing and showing us the other side of being a concert pianist ! Thank for that !
Tiffany, I love how you stay so positive even when you get to a frustrating pint in your practice. Love to watch you work your way to a beautiful interpretation of the piece.
I love your striving, Tiffany! You make it a wonderful spectator sport!
Yep, 'ow' that's about right for chromatics even at my level! Well done Tiffany. I've got to work up my technical for Grade 6 now too, I've been putting it off. Chromatic shoots a pain up the back of my Left hand and feels like some kinda spider on tiptoes haha - You sound wonderful in this Vid. See you in Singapore
Try to relax your hand when you play regular chromatics. Relaxing your hand actually allows you to play faster.
NicYoong Productions - thank you! I will do that. It’s going to be bad as I’ve left off them for a while. I’ll have to build speed slowly again
Try stretching you hands and wrists. My hands tingle when I don’t stretch and let my wrists get tight. Hope this helps
Maggie FH - thank you very much. I will try. Got to do a lot of chromatic scale next week!
Tiffany, you are an inspiration to me and many who watch your videos!!! I love what you are doing!!
You make me feel a lot better on how I practice. If I don’t get something right in a particularly piece I will go back to that line or measure and do it until I get It right even if I takes hours. Thanks so much for sharing!
Love your vlogs! Please make more
Love the video! I am an amateur pianist and like seeing you being so critical about your play, while it for 99% of the listeners sounds flawless. When I play I just get frustrated and angry why it is not sounding like I want. But that keeps me also going!
Awesome perseverance gives awesome playing. The result is like the wind whistling in the trees. Bravo!
Amazing speed and touch. Great to here you play.
I love your passion and commitment. You are a fine pianist, in more ways than one! 😍😂
So good to watch your practise, because then as an aspiring pianist myself I can actually see what good practise really looks like. I feel like practise methods are like the trade secrets that separate great pianists from those that are not so great. Great work! Those chromatic thirds are incronprehensible!!!!!!
It blows my mind that anyone can be this good at anything.
I am studying harmony, while listening to youe videos
i love these practicing videos because the captions you add are so relatable to how i feel when practicing lol
That is stunning to watch, the fluttering contrasted to the monster power hits was just awesome.
You are an inspiration Tiffany. Keep the videos coming !
Спасибо за демонстрацию! Вы напоминаете мне птичку🙂
What an awesome feeling it must be to master a piece this complex
Bravo!!! I hope I can play the piano like you someday.
There is just something magical about seeing the behind of scenes of amazing performances. It reminds me that even the best are human and I still have a chance :P we all go through obstacles and can only overcome through practice. Thanks for the vid!
Thank you! Motivates me to continue practicing!
I adore your passion of working hard on the pieces!
Watching you is so therapeutic.
Facinating as usual. Showing your practice sessions is a really good idea rhat really works. Theyre almost more interesting than watching a performance....that didn't come out right...they're strangely intimate. Bravo your videos are always cool, hypnotic even. I never imagined myself binge watching a vlog.
1:24 omg that out of tuned note thrilled me :( but above all, this makes me want to practice more. Thank you for inspiring us! ❤️
hey tiffany! I play the piano too and i really enjoy watching your videos! lots of love from argentina ❤️
"my left hand has no stamina"
"I can never play both hands together"
*Plays everything 100x better than me*
Me: lol she plays this scale so good
Text in Video: still bad...
Me: yea i think she could practice it thats still bad..
lol
That is me too lol
I adore watching dedicated practice!
Good luck, cheering you on can't wait for the recital !!!!
Wonderful! Thank you for letting us into the mind of a master.
These comments in the video were so funny. I admire how relaxed and balanced you keep while practising. I often get very angry and/or impatient when I don't get the sound I want. Btw. your scales do sound very sparkling and brillant!!!
I KNEW it was going to be THAT chromatic scale when I saw the topic title, when I learned that piece I was able to tackle most difficulties but that scale proved to be one of the hardest things to get right. I am not sure why though, it's a simple chromatic scale, when you are at the level of playing Spanish Rhapsody, you have probably played Ch. scales thousands of times before, elsewhere. I remember I tried some exotic 1-through-5 positions, to reduce passes of thumb to the minimum, results were ok-ish meh. It remained hard with any fingering.
Man watching this reminds me of the frustration and irritation I felt when practicing Chopin’s Waltz in E minor. Practicing music really takes up a lot of your energy and is constantly poking at your patience and perseverance. So kudos to you and I wish you all the best Tiffany! ❤️
Your fast Tiffany !!!!!
i started listening to this 2 weeks ago and u start playing it again wow
"Did anyone text me?"
"Nope"
We've all been there, sis
Yep
Genious!!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Watching my practicing video... so boring. Watching Tiffany's practicing video... so motivating!
I'm now learning clair de lune and middle part is so difficult...
The way you obsessively practice one sigle passage until you perfect it makes me feel better about my practice. If only I could make it as fast as you :)) 30 minutes for that cromatic madness is great, you are so gifted! Good luck at Singapore! I wish I could be there.
Love this. Thanks for the motivation to keep pushing for clarity.
When you say you’re playing bad. I cri inside.
Congratulations! I’m feeling inspired watching you practicing! Thanks a lot! =D
At first I thought you where already good it then I heated the improvements.
You are such an Inspiration. Always keep doing!
Love how you play this piece.
Your practicing is really worth it. :) I love watching it! And you practice really good too! :D
I have seen 7 of miss poon vlogs, now i am a piano expert ...
Absolutely mesmerizing!
Love when you upload practice practice videos! Keep going!
I love this Spanish Rhapsody , and I love seeing you practice :) You´re great !
Awesome Tiffany--so inspiring! Thanks!
Wow! Well done, Tiffany! I know it might be frustrating having to repeat the same thing so many times, but at the end you got it! I think it was a good practice section for such a difficult part.
By the way, I love chromatic scales! I can't play them as fast as you can but I have fun anyway. At least, they are easier for me than the octaves. :)
This inspired me today to practice my recital piece for this June, thank you for your videos!!!
