One of the most hilarious instances of the imperium using assassin's is when the tau (an alien empire) were expanding they authorized an assassination force wich is effectively all four assassin's going after the same target, however the tau were expecting this and intercepted 3 of the four before they could reach there target (basically the supreme ruler of the tau empire) the 4th however was the culuxes assassin and the only reason they didn't get him was that due to being a blank the tau ignored him so hard he became kinda invisible and he simply took a ship straight to the capital got on a bus full of tau who also ignored him walked straight into the palace and shot the his target point blank in the face and walked out, his presence was so hellish they would rather ignore him and pretend he wasn't there then deal with him

    Inquisitorial hierarchy:
There are ranks of inquisitors leading all the way up to lord inquisitor. The different inquisitors and lord inquisitors somewhat balance each other out. Inquisitors can also be excommunicated for going to far, but that threshold is pretty vast.
    Evers or assassins:
Bricky kinda drops the ball on this one. The point of an eversor assassin is to Devi state the morale of a target by releasing on them a horrifying killing machine whose only purpose is to find ever more impressive ways of completely brutalizing a target. Ever sora are also programmed. They’re given information on the target and who to kill/ not kill via brain download. They’re not just some dude either, the drugs do more than strip their humanity. They are insanely fast, insanely strong, and will keep killing until physically rendered unable to do so by completely destroying their body or brain. When they die, the volatile chemicals in their body set off an explosive reaction that kills anyone in proximity. A good example of the deployment of an Eversor is when a planet’s nobility decided to rebel. When they had the imperial emissaries killed, a single drop pod was sent to the upper spire of the largest hive city. It was programmed to kill everyone except the silent fence sitting nobles, and it turned the residence of the nobles into a carnage pit of horrors. Needless to say, the fence sitters were no longer on the fence. Also, most Space marine chapters have no problem murdering civilians if they are heretical enough, but they aren’t always around if the threat isn’t that great.

Other organizations can request The Custodian's aid but never can command them to aid. They are so high and renowned in the imperium that even high level inquisitors can't tell them what to do. They can ignore orders from inquisitors and they can do nothing about it because they are one of the only few that cannot and will not take orders from them. I have heard that some custodians have disrespected inquisitors to their face and the inquisitor could not do anything. Inquisitors always get what they want so it shocks them that for once they could not order and control something. So basically they can’t command each other. In the book, Carrion throne there is this quote " A rosette(Inquisitional symbol) could halt many things, but not, he guessed, that spear(The guardian spear is the signature weapons of the custodes, a power spear with a boltgun on the end)". The Inquisitor in this quote threatened the Custodes with that symbol and the custodes just laughed at it. The Schola Progenium is such an interesting concept for me. Basically, your parents die to some threat that may or may not leave you potentially "corrupted" in some fashion or other, so you're slapped into a school that puts you in very high-risk/skill/intensity work zones, such as Inquisitorial Acolytes, Tempestus troops, Commissars, etc. The only confusion I have about it is where? Where the heck is the Schola Progenium? I always hear about it as a singular institution, which I think is rather odd. There must be more than one branch, but I can't find any info about it. The pictures always seem to show a space station, so that's something, I guess. Can I get a bit of info on that?

So it’s not so much put into maximum danger areas, it’s actually quite more tame. They are essentially half orphanage/school - in addition you don’t need to be an orphan to be sent there, some high up nobles and families can send their children there purposely like a private school but one that’s more “one way trip” - I.e. you don’t go home you go into whatever job your trained for.
As for where is it. Well everywhere. A schola is not a single place but multiple places. You’ll likely find them on planets of importance or worlds of which have history’s and imperial/political/religious significance.
You’ll also find that the teachers there are all ex-servicemen who have retired. I.e. your commissar is one who has retired from his work - like Ciaphas Cain did before being recalled to serve during the 13th Black Crusade - or a Veteran Tempest Scion, a old retired canoness, a rusty tech-priest, a old but skilled administrative clerk, etc. It is these people who will then teach the next generation of (insert job here).
      - Also to note, a schola doesn’t focus on a single group of people, they will focus on multiple all depending on who they have as teachers.
Also for Inquisitors it’s a mix of potential Schola taught Interrogators/Acolytes and acolytes who have come up through another inquisitors retinue - these acolytes being anything from guardsmen to tech-priests to a preacher or clerk or even a hive ganger or pleasure world joy girl/boy. Essentially they can come from anywhere.
      - this is also the reason many inquisitors don’t see the authority of another as “true” as some may see the gift rank of “inquisitors” given to someone they deem unworthy of such a title as false. This also happens as the title of “inquisitors” can be granted upon anyone as long as they have sponsor from one or several inquisitors and a high ranking inquisitor grants them the title

Inquisitioners often find people who are strong, knowledgeable, influential, magical enough or what ever that they'll point at them and just say "you work for me now, you're in my retinue" and if they're good enough they one day will get promoted into an inquisitioner of their own (although it is rare since inquitioners are often generalists and their retinue are specialists who do specific things, the tech priests, the psyker, etc kinda like the A team)
Interestingly, some inquitioners have aliens in their retinue, this is very rare, against the rules but who's gonna call an inquisitioner on them right? This is often a lesser evil, we both want the same thing, let's kill each other later deal but sometimes is more perminant.

As for the Evesors, you dont need to worry about them going berserk en route or during downtime because they are put into a chem induced coma (more like a nightmare coma) loaded into a drop pod while still unconscious, and fired into the AO. (which at this point will be somewhat chaotic, as these are not the kind of assassins you send in when things are nice and quiet) Only during the orbital drop, will sedative feeds be shut down, replaced with Frenzon and other Sci-fi super drugs like Psycho and Jet. Once conscious their heads up display will give them the most basic of objectives, like flashing the faces of HVTs with the words Purge or Kill. Eversor assassins aren't really assassins, there more like ODSB's (Orbital Drop Suicide Berserkers) just like the drop pods they use, they are entirely expendable and pretty much one-time use.

What that does, is let you add any 1 of the 4 assassin types into your army roster, at the beginning of the game (once you know what your opponent's army is). As for recruiting Inquisitors: Every inquisitor has personal "underlings" called interrogators (there actually is PnP Game where you play as a group of interrogators) which are handselected by the inquisitor from whereever, some might be ex-guard, adeptus mechanicum, others just "normal" people with useful skills, etc.

Bricky mostly glosses over the specifics of Eversors, which is okay since his video is just supposed to be a basic introduction of their core concepts. He's not wrong that Eversors are drug-fueled, angry cyborg murdermachines, but they are far from mindless. They're augmented for speed and reflexes more than any other Temple, but also receive extensive guerilla warfare training via natural selection and hypno-indoctrination training programs similar to those Space Marine Neophytes undergo. Furthermore, all of them are engineered in a specific manner so that the volatile combat drug cocktails they carry around in themselves explode like an anti-tank bomb when they die or trigger a specific mental command when near their target/s.
Eversor deployments happen from specialized stealth ships and drop pods, with the assassins receiving all pertinent intelligence briefings and orders for their mission via REM sleep hypnotic conditioning using neural implants, simultaneously as they are being woken up from cryosleep. Eversors *are* also capable of working together in teams and even with other Imperium personnel, but only if said personnel are logged as 'friendly' on their mental IFF by the aforementioned hypno-command briefings. Eversors are the most pure and expendable black-ops Temple, the assassins you send in when you need something in a fortified bunker complex dead with no witnesses, be they friend or foe. They typically get sent to take out superhuman targets like rogue Space Marines or high-priority Ork Warbosses in chaotic warzones, where the other Assassin Temples are much less likely to guarantee a successful kill within a very short timeframe for deployment. Sometimes, the Eversors complete a mission and are intact enough to be recalled, whereupon they go right back to cryospleep until their next deployment. But more often than not, they are deployed with the expectation of never coming back, which is just fine, since they are the Assassinorum asset most easy to replace.
I remember reading about an Eversor who was inducted into the Temple after being captured by Imperium authorities, who went to investigate why an entire orbital habitat housing a couple thousand people went quiet. Turns out, a sociopathic teenager became a serial killer and meticulously killed every single person on his home habitat after sabotaging the communication equipment so they couldn't call for help. Then went on to sabotage and booby trap things like life-support so he could split up the internal security personnel into groups he could handle, followed by leisurely slaughtering the civillians in similar ways. Most people naturally saw that kid as a monster that should be put down, the Eversor Temple recruiters saw a talented new initiate. That's 40K for you.

You send Eversor when you don't want one man dead. You send them when you want a organization dead, with one specific person to kill first. And even if they kill the bugger (which is difficilt as they have duplicate organs for toughness), they have additional drugs that literally cause the assassin to combust that makes landmines look like child toys.
17:58 that inquisitor actually uses Daemons, and he's fighting against Xenos. Now, the Daemon is 'controlled' but still...
As far as they connection to Secret Police goes, specifically CIA and FBI is the idea of them originally being secret police, I believe the CIA launched a raid on Cuba a while before the Cuban Missile Crisis.
And yes, Space Marine fight against the Inquisition A LOT. Look at the Black Templar that use the Codex Astartes as literal toilet paper or the Space Wolves who'd gladly punch a Inquisitor if they crossed them, mostly due to history on that one (glances at the Months of Shame).
Inquisitors aren't raised, they're more recommended by already existing members of the Inquisition, I believe a Sister of Battle is currently a Inquisitor. And generally more senior members of the Inquisition are in charge, and I believe it requires more than one to declare exterminautaus unless there is VEEY good reason to not wait around for it (Tyranids are eating it currently or are going to in two days, for instance *cough Inquisitor Cryptman cough* ). As far as execution of Exterminautaus, only soecific ships can, and they're generally big and slow, or a fleet of 'small' ships.

Bricky did get Eversor Assassins a bit wrong here. They do have targets 'programmed in' whilst they are frozen, and they can tell friend from foe. They are used to clear entire bunker networks, or large horde units in one go. A story example in their Codex had one with a mission to wipe out an entire ruling (but heretical) family, all 200 or so, from the elders to the infants. And he ended up using everything as a weapon, including a silver dessert spoon...
Another sting in their tail is that their pulse is the only thing stopping the highly volatile cocktail of combat drugs and stimulants from settling, because if they do (by the Assassin dying) then they start to react and the Assassin explodes with the same force as a small bomb... This is by design...

While the Inqusition does not have a lot of hierarchy per se (except for a few offices, but not like a military ranking system) teh normal members find their own rankings and establish themselves in that system. It is mostly dealing whom do you know, how well, do you have any favors to call in, what great deeds have you done, that gives an Inquisitor his 'rank'. Hope this helps. Also Bricky mentioned it when he started talking about the Officio Assassinorum (in the part before this one) that the special school also educates Inquisitors to some extent i believe. But if i remember correctly the 'normal' way to become an Inquisitor is teh following: In general every Inquisitor has his/her own entourage of highly skilled and specialized helpers and associates. And it is very common that the Inquisitors at some point take one of said entourage into tutelage or maybe even look for a possible successor and let them gather experience in that entourage. Here is where my memory gets fuzzy. I think that the mentor at some point presents the protege with an individual seal that every Inquisitor has and he then becomes a full-fledged Inquisitor. These mentor-protege relationships that built over years are also the cornerstone/beginning of the newly minted Inquisitor's social network/inner ranking. Hope this helps, please correct me if I stated something wrong.

His superiors did not take too well to his use of Exterminatus in this way, but as I recall, he punishment was just getting booted from the order (because what did actually DID work and like saved billions of lives). So there is oversight on the Inquisitors use of Exterminatus, but it is generally after the fact.

Eversors that have been fully..."trained" are frozen. The only time they are awake is when they are killing. The area that an Eversor is deployed in is deemed killable so they just let them go to town on everything. Most times they fully expect the Eversor to die and then exploded due to the adjustments they made to their body. But many do survive the assassination and they are then captured and refrozen to redeploy at some point. There are some Eversors that aren't like that. Those only get partial "training" and then become sleepers to be activated at a specific time. They aren't as combat effective as the frozen members but they trade that for stealth and blending in.
Inquisitors are recruited, trained, and outfitted by other Inquisitors. People from all over can become an Inquisitor from some random off of some back water planet to even a Space Marine. The training and intelligence thresholds depend on the individual Inquisitor and how they choose to train up their successor or would be college. Of course that protege will need to go before the rest of the Inquisition to be verified and confirmed. And they can deny a protege's promotion to Inquisitor, for any number of reasons. Some noble, some due to bribes and grudges. The only way this is bypassed is if an Inquisitor dies and names his direct successor. So while they may seem like a lot of Inquisitor running around, the system as bad as it is does keep itself in check so the actual number is relatively low.
Also no there is no one to green light an Exterminatus. But if it is done on a world that didn't deserve it, other Inquisitors will investigate and bring the offending one to heel. Because planets are a finite resource. But yes they have a hierarchy as some Inquisitors have large authority and clearance than others but there is no one to act as a check to the autonomy of an Inquisitor and if order by one to kill a planet, that's all it takes.

Inquisitors do have sort of Hiearchy, more senior Inquisitors have a rank of the Lord Inquisitor and the highest rank got the leaders of the Ordo's. Their experience and reputation ( also which clique in the Ordo they support) determines their standing among other Inquisitors. They make conlaves where they appoint leaders or a debate various problems or it can work as a seminar, for example new xeno drugs and their effects on resisting interrigation or something like that. They sometimes work more like scientific community. There are several schools of thought among Inquisitors. Generaly they are divaded to Puritanical Inquistors and Radicals. Radicals are those who think that using chaos artifacts to defeat chaos is sometimes necessary, they also end up being executed by their fellow Inquisitors.
If Inquisitor does something that seems heretical he is hunted and brought before the court of his pears (other Inquisitors) who determine his guilt and deal with him.

Memes aside, exterminatus is actually taken very seriously within the inquisition. Ex-inquisitor Kryptman was actually excommunicated from the inquisition because he used exterminatus as part of a battle strategy *instead* of a last-resort, multiple times.
To be fair, it *did* work, as he was fighting against Tyranids, which is why it's so important to highlight that, because even tho it worked, the inquisition still found it worth judgement and excommunication over.

As I understand it, it's also a decision that can take a long time to make. Many meetings to be had. Partially because the also need to figure out what is the best way to do it. Burn the planet? Turn all life into soup... then burn it? Send in the Grey Knights?
I don't know what regulations there are for Deathwatchs Kill-ships. I imagine a lot of their work is classified and shredded instead of stored.
I know of one instance where Ad-Mech performed an exterminatus on one of their forgeworlds, before they had the time to even address the issue that caused it. (It had no repercussions, because it would have been a diplomatic nightmare... can't have some of the outer planets starting to claim the "real" Omnissiah was there)

If I'm remembering right, exterminatus can be denied to lower ranked inquisitors if it is considered too valuable a planet, something like a major forgeworld or a space marine citadel world. Also its less mass bombardment and typically a single shell that either ignites the atmosphere or causes seismic ripples that tear it to pieces. Otherwise there's pretty much no other process to ordering an exterminatus, though it is often reviewed afterwards, lorewise there's really only one noteable case of someone being dismissed from too much exterminatus, and it's arguable as it was to deny a mass of tyranids food, and it did work to a degree.

Eversor Assassins are weapons of Terror.
They are, as far as I remember, really more used on soft targets, like the proverbial village feeding terrorists, that as actively killing direct combat capabilities.
There will be terror sown along the lines of "When you support these, you and your family will die. Messily"
The military value comes solely from the fact that you don't want such a psycho roaming your supply base area, so you have to pull back troops to scour the area.
When they appear to thinly, the Eversor Assassin will mop the floor with them, resupplying using their equipment. When they appear in large clumps, he might slip between them unseen and keep on doing his stuff.

Here is how the Custodans are different from space marines. Remember they are completely different and separate organizations so do not think they are part of the space marines.
Armor- Their armor is better in every way. Their armor is made up of Auramite (the emperor's armor is also made up of this) which is tougher and stronger than Ceramite(the stuff that normal space marine armor is made up of.). They have better tracking systems and is custom tailored and sized for the individual custodian. Take this analogy Space marine armor is like the store bought shirts you can get one your size but it will never fit you perfectly. Custodian armor is like a bespoke suit with a master craftsman taking every measurement and making sure the suit fits absolutely perfectly which combined with the custodian's superior creation makes the custodian so fast that space marines when sparring with them says they even struggle to land a single hit while the custodian is putting not too much effort into it. They also have personal energy shields around them.
Weaponry- They have something called the guardian spear which is like a bolter power spear hybrid(power weapons have a sheen of energy over the blade that literally destroys the molecular bonds that it touches so that is literally Cleaves through even space marine armor.) They are also the only ones that have the last of the Adrathic Weapons which are disintegration weapons that have crazy power. No other force even have them because the custodes get the best stuff.
Vehicles- Their vehicles are made of Auramite. They have some of the last examples of jet-bike technology(think of star wars speeder bikes but stronger and on steroids and crack). During the Great crusade the space marine legions had them but in the 41st millennium except for Grand Master Sammael of the Dark Angels they are all but extinct except for the Custodes. I would say that the custodes are the least ignorant and most knowledgeable organization in the imperium. They are not bound by religion and superstition(as they are the last few who know that the Emperor hated religion) so they didn't go into the state of ignorance and therefore can maintain the super advanced tech that everyone else lost. These jetbikes are more powerful than what could be issued to Astartes. They are so sensitive and responsive that a small flick could be enough to make the thing do a 180. They could even do supersonic turns almost 90 degrees on the dime. On the battlefield these things wreak havoc with Extremely high maneuverability with high damage and armor.

The Zombie Forms really helps you understand why psychers are so dangerous and why exterminatus is sometimes the best option.

Inquisitor Kryptman, that name that popped up for a second while he was talking about the Exterminatus, was actually declared a traitor for extensive use of those weapons. He was stripped of his title and rank. This was during the Third Tyrannic War for reference.
However there was still imperial forces loyal to him, the Imperium is a empire of a "million" worlds, so punishing someone who had that much power is quite hard. He would eventually blow up a moon and start the Octarius War to "save" the Imperium, by directing the Tyranids into the Orks.
The Ordo Xeno didn't like that and called it "an unholy mess to clean up" due to the fact that whoever won the Octarius War would be much stronger than previously before, due to the nature of Tyranids and Orks.

Eversor assassins are best deployed in conjunction with a diversion so that the enemy are responding to the other situation while the Eversor murders a path to their target from a different direction. I believe I read that the drugs affect their sense of time and they perceive time as slower and their body reacts as if it were so.

Inquisitors are accompanied by acolytes, who they recruit from all walks of life. Inquisitors have the authority to conscript anyone into their service (although there are practical issues if they try to conscript a space marine, or something). The acolytes also learn from the Inquisitor. Those who have potential and survive (a very VERY tiny number) can eventually become Inquisitors themselves, with their former master becoming their mentor.
Most acolytes don't last a year.

Watched earlier but forgot to comment so here’s more info.
For the evisor (crazy guys with skull helmets) they technically can still reason and strategize but are generally used as a one man, no questions asked cleanup team. They undergo extensive physical and psychological training to make them adept combatants. Their pumped full of adrenaline, steroids, etc and undergo medical changes meant to make them better fighters. However the extreme modifications make them chemically (and thus mentally) unstable. They can fight enemies leagues above humans but they exert themselves so much that the long and short term effects are life threatening. As a result they’re used as expendable fire and forget weapons often used against rebels and cultists though they may also be used against other threats. And since a crazy dead man isn’t likely to ask questions they won’t hesitate to kill.
As for the inquisition I can’t say I know for sure how they recruit but from what little I know I believe members seek out potential candidates who are entered into a special academy. As for their chain of command they do have one. Due to the sheer size of the imperium they largely operate independently but will send reports monthly to a superior. But they ultimately do submit to a higher authority within the organization.

If there is anything in the imperium that is made to die it is the eversore Assassins. They are crazy in melee and have an auto explosion that does mortals wounds to every model in the explosion radius. If you field an eversour you send them into deep combat into as many models as you can and and kill as many as possible before blowing up and whipping half an army off the board. The drop pod thing is represented by picking a place on the board then you put him in a radius around that place when you want him on the board. And if you kill a model in melee you attack again. I love fielding eversore because he is just a nuke with claws and feet. It is so fun.

Many high-ranking Imperials are recruited from the Schola Progenium, which are a series of schools that mainly consist of children of orphaned soldiers. Commissars and such are recruited from these schools, and naturally, existing Inquisitors often headhunt, finding strong-minded individuals with a similar code of ethics to their own, so you could say that the main way a person (usually) becomes an Inquisitor is through apprenticeship to a senior Inquisitor. Being a large galaxy, not every Inquisitor thinks alike and there are books (and games) where they actually go after each other, and its a bit of a nebulous area as they both have the same authority and attempt to declare the other heretics or outlaws.
In the lore, there are numerous Inquisitorial philosophies which demonstrates the dichotomy. A Horusian Inquisitor would see a powerful weapon of Chaos as something that could be used against its creators, while a more conservative Amalathian would be horrified by this act. A Thorian Inquisitor might consult with aliens about ressurection/rejuvenation technology that might heal the Emperor, while a xenophobic Monodominant would try to kill such aliens and eliminate all evidence that they ever existed.
And you're right, while they do outrank everyone, there is some push/pull about this authority. Certain chapters such as the Space Wolves and Dark Angels have secrets they wish to preserve, and Inquisitors who push those chapters too deeply about such secrets tend to wind up dead.

The Inquisitors aren't above Space Marines. Space Marines and the Adeptus Mechanicus are part of but not directly underlying the Imperiums command.
Grey Knights are directly underlying the Inquisition, but they are a special case. (Deathwatch used to be, but this lore has been changed)
"Lexicanum" is pretty good Wikia page for 40k information. There are others, and they all have some issues with not being updated. (I suspect some "correcting" in the old information again if they are).
The page "Imperium of Man" has an organizational chart over the Imperium. It disagrees with me about the Ad-mech, but you can see the dotted line for the Astartes (Space Marines).

here's an interesting thing i just remembered about exterminatus, as soon as there's something worth disturbing the imperium at large, the higher ups start *at* commanding an exterminatus, then they reduce from there, and ,depending of the threat you can get the inquisition, the astartes, the astra militarus, it depends if is worth saving your planet/system/sector, all in all the scale of damage is picked by how many planets or sectors affected, is the response system of the imperium, how much damage was taken before sending resources, callous sure, but given the ludicrous distance, logistics, personnel, special forces, and equipament needed, kinda has to be like that, callousness, becomes needed, welcome to 40k

For most inquisitor usely start out as a helper to a real inquisitor in their retinue(basicly their support staff). They are usely some form of specailist like a interrogator, sage, spy,,enforcer, diplomat or investigator.
Depending on the inquisitor their retinue can include hundreds of people all that report to the inquisitor or a trusted advicer.
Over the years a inquisitor could go though many retinue members as the fall in service to the emperor, the once that show promise can be eleveted to work directly for the inquisitor and if he/she so judge that they worthy haveing the necesery skills then that person would become a apprentice inquisitor.
If the apprentice is not killed in the line of duty or fall under chaos/heretical/alien influnce then they can become a inquisitor in their own right once their mentor belives that they are fully trained.
