Thank you so much for sharing about the happiness machine. Now I must find this book 🤓 I so agree with you on the smart phone. I find myself wasting endless hours when simple things are so much more life giving. Wonderful video👍
I love Bradbury's writing. Whilst my main genre is sci-fi/fantasy, my favourite book is Dandelion Wine. It's my go-to book and am currently re-reading again, along with the acociated Green Town books. It's great how many of these were published as standalone stories, including one of my favourites, The Trolley. Full of emotion, it is wonderful how stories born of Illinois in the 1920s can connect with my childhood in the South of England in the 1970s. What a talent!
It's so good! There are some passages of his that blow me away no matter how many times I read them, particularly a segment at the end of F451. Glad to meet a fellow bradbury fan!
There will definitely be more Ray Bradbury. I adore him as well! I highly recommend watching his Lawrence Bridges interview if ever you are feeling sad. Cheers me up every time. It's in pieces here on YT. But yes, more to come about him on my channel! P.S. I also made a biography video about Ray awhile ago if you are ever in the mood to watch that
I think Bradbury misses the mark a little with this one. It seems that his main point is that real happiness is better than the fake happiness from the machine. But I would argue that the true downside of the happiness machine is not that it isn’t real, but it deprives one of purpose and struggle for happiness. It smooths the topography of emotions to monotonous happiness which I feel, ironically, is a tragedy.

I think you illustrated Bradbury's point here perfectly. Seems like you're on the same page to me!
