I have been running this for a couple of friends the last three weeks. The setting is really amazing and well written. I would be really interested to see how other people run the adventures though. We only ran "The black widow" and "Steam train out of hell", but I am missing a lot of guidance that I do get with most D&D modules that I've ran so far (like maps (if only for inspiration), numbers of enemies, stat blocks of said enemies). Since everyone in my game is new to the WEG D6 system, 3/4 of my players have invested only 2 dice into Brawn, and 2/4 have put only 2 dice in Melee and Marksmanship, making them easy to hit and very hard for them to hit anyone else (whose statblock is in the enemy combatants section). Interestingly, once they learned that they suck at fighting, this made those characters avoid combat in hilarious ways, which makes for good fun around the table (or over the internet nowadays). Overall, I would still recommend it, but for me personally it takes a lot more effort to prepare and run a Zorro game than a D&D game.
Very few games give you the tools that D&D does for building and balancing encounters, so yes, you'll absolutely have to play a lot of it by ear. For me, I actually prefer the looser nature of games like Zorro--you have less control over the mechanics but more control over the story, if that makes sense.
Excited to play this soon as well! Going to have to sneak in some Sense, Alter, and Control house rules for my friar. I don't think I can play d6 without those ;)

Star Wars D6 was the first system I bought/played myself too! Didn't know this was based on it. Will definitely check it out, especially from GKG
Seems like there will be a lot of falling down in combat. I think I would have a person be stunned without falling prone.

I have no friends, out of curiosity, does this game have anything in the way of solo adventures?
No specific rules that I saw, but if you're familiar with solo RPGs maybe you could homebrew it? I'm not familiar with it at all.
There is a solo intro adventure in the book. I think this game could easily and greatly facilitate solo play.
