I haven't practiced bending enough and it's very frustrating sounding the other strings when they grab my fingers during the pull off. Thank you for this video! I will try muting with my index finger. Such a simple thing and yet there are many technical considerations to get it just right.
Great stuff - I watched a bunch of videos for the bend issues I'm having and yours was awesome as you display the wrong way (exact issues I'm having) followed by the correction - seems like more guitar videos should do that.
Long time (9yrs) classical guitar player here, learning to play electric guitar, and had a nightmare dealing with muting techniques, especially with note bending. This video was absolutely brilliant, thankyou 😁
Tip 3 might’ve just brought back my entire passion for guitar. I spent so many years working so hard on so many things yet could never get that string above to be quiet. It was so frustrating and I haven’t played on a consistent basis for 5 years now. I think I’m gonna pick up my guitar when I get home now.
Hi John! That's a great suggestion, I'll do that or maybe some more advanced string bends first... Pedal steel type string bends or double string bends, or some unusual two handed string bends. Just trying to get a feel for what types of lessons people might like most at this stage. I'm going to try a few different formats over the next month and see if they get any traction. Feel free to let me know what you think of them in the comments! Thanks!
Pick muting and palm muting were the first techniques that really showed me how important dynamics are and basic techniques like Vibrato and bending, Left handed muting combined with palm muting and all types of styles of techniques to help dynamic playing is what truly let a player express themselves ❤
Michael, thanks for the great video! Tip 2 took care of the issue for me. I didn’t even have to practice it. It was more just thinking about rolling my tips while bending and it grabbed all the other strings.
As soon as you mentioned “That Gilmore solo”, I spammed myself as I have been working on the Shine solo for months as my first solo lol. Excellent tips for not sounding other strings thanks 😊
Your action is too high. I have a Strat and an Epi Les Paul - was driving me nuts when I bend on the strat - the strings cover my fingers - I tried the Les Paul - no problem at all - my fingers push the top strings up - the action much lower. I Fixed the strat.
"I'd resist to start with David Gilmour" lmao I started with Time. I've been playing for a while but pretty much only acoustic so just starting to solo now. I am having a little trouble trying to use more than one finger after seeing others do that, especially because David uses a lot of hammer ons and pull offs with his bends, so I have to have that index free and hit the bend again quickly. I find I can do it pretty reliably, but I am worried learning the wrong way will hurt me with other songs. It's almost good to hear Pink Floyd songs aren't beginner bends.
My first bending song is Tuesdays Gone by Lynard Skynard. It’s challenging but very fun to learn. Thank you for the video. You have a Great teaching style.
5-Stars! ★★★★★ It was my poor technique, not the guitar set up. NO finger roll... exactly my issue slipping under the string above. Check that box off. Excellent tip for us gray beard boomer benders!
Glad it was helpful. Setup does play a big part in how these techniques will feel though. For example a lot of people will often struggle to push the other strings out of the way when bending on a guitar with small vintage frets with low action, bigger more modern frets are easier. Anyway, thanks for the kind comment!
At least you are playing I have not played a electric guitar since when the Beatles first came to the USA and I was very young and left off with Old mcdonald had a farm,I wish my parents pushed me to continue because there are so many great songs I would like to learn how to play and so many things you can do with the guitar.I see these great guitar muscians playing it is amazing.
I've been working on the Lead for You're So Vain, and there are some really cool things going on. I almost have it, but it is so dirty! Extra noises everywhere. I'd love for you to talk about that!
How do I combine tip #1 with tip #3? How do I push with the index finger while also using it to dampen? Seems I can't get any strength out of it if I keep it ahead of the other fingers.
Great video. I’m coming from acoustic. I was taught to place my fingers at 90 degrees to the fretboard. Is there a reason why electric players have their fingers angled? Hope this makes sense!
I am new in electric guitar and I am learning bending . all is ok I have no problem but my bending is not 100% correct most of the time a few cents high or low. Do you mean your bending is exact on the note?
I’m learning Iron man by black sabbath and the main problem I need to do pull off right after band down, so I should somehow cope simultaneously with 3 technique and make the index finger to be pressed on the banded string (not just laid down) and that’s frustrating :(
came here because I'm struggling with the solo from "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2". Telling me to not go straight for a David Gilmore solo may have come a tad late 😂
Nice one mate - how good do you have to be to be able to reproduce even the bad technique (like ringing out the string above the bended one) at command? Haha, kudos!
Glad you liked the video. The guitar tutorial videos just don't seem to do as well my others. If I get more requests I'll do more though. Thanks for commenting!
first riff, and song I taught myself were the Over the Hills and Far Away intro riff and Blackbird years and years ago. Now trying to learn GIlmour solos. Terrible at all of them.... like, I can bend and move around the fret board with some proficiency, but overall the execution is just inconsistent and sloppy. I learned the wrong way.

sameeee
Tip 2 addresses what I was missing. Thank you.
Excellent vid! I'm a beginner and these tip's were what I have been missing! Thank you.
You should have loads more subscribers. Good tips succinctly explained. Nice!
Nice & concise, vibrato next? Cheers 👍🏻

tip number two: so simple but effective. thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
This has helped my solo on "Just what I needed " by the Cars. So this video was just what I needed!
Pick muting and palm muting were the first techniques that really showed me how important dynamics are and basic techniques like Vibrato and bending, Left handed muting combined with palm muting and all types of styles of techniques to help dynamic playing is what truly let a player express themselves ❤
great video, tip number 3 was what I needed =)
Been learning the Just What I Needed solo by the cars and this video instantly helped clean up unwanted notes ringing out. Thanks!
Thank you so much! Very helpful😇

What a fantastic video. Well done this is so needed.
Very helpful I learned to bend from this, and i learnd to mute the string on the bend down
Now i can play more Avenged Sevenfold
Thanks! That was the info Ive been looking for.
Glad I could help!
Thank you so much. You just literally made my LIFE easier. ❤️😬
Happy to help!
Hello I like your vídeos, I'm learning about pedals and guitars the information that you share is very useful, best regards from Mexico
Cool, thanks!
As soon as you mentioned “That Gilmore solo”, I spammed myself as I have been working on the Shine solo for months as my first solo lol. Excellent tips for not sounding other strings thanks 😊
Same here with the wish you were here solo. That song is the reason I found this video!😂
Tip #2 fixed my problem. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
Very useful information. Thanks!
Soooo helpful! Thank you!
suggestion for song: cause weve ended as lovers - Jeff Beck.. this song gave me haedache at the start
The first solo from november rain is great to practice bending and train your ear
Very helpful! Thanks a lot! And this is a truly beautiful guitar!!!
When i bend on an electric, the strings go over my fingernails
Uhh what am I doing wrong? Is the action too high?
Have you figured it out?
I have same problem

Awesome video, that answered every aspect that bothered me. Simple short precise. Now I just have to practice :)
Super helpful!

I know im late, but I love you for this video

My fingers always seem to grab and snap another string. I'm trying this rolling technique

Thank you!!
great vid! really helpful
Yo where can I get that guitar? It looks awesome
GENIUS THANK U!!!!!
thank you, very helpful
Glad to help. Thanks for commenting!
Im finding bending on the high E string closer to the 5th fret where frets are farther apart almost impossible, high e string bend only help?
Great video.

thanks, good stuff
watching this after trying to learn david gilmour... me:👀
Holy shit. Same. Exactly the same. UA-cam comments is the place to go if you ever start feeling even slightly unique 😂
Yeah this was never a problem for me until I started learning David Gilmore solos.. now I’m here in this comment thread
SAME oh my god its so difficult
@@lvn4xsame 💀
Lolll same
every time i bend my fingers go UNDER the upper strings so hopefully i can learn how to bend properly from this video 🙏🙏
I’m having that exact same problem right now.
I always do that too. And I don't think it's because the action is too high. So it's super annoying.
@@LBart218 if your fingers go under that easy, the action is probably too high.
@Grue3 I reread what typed after picking up my guitar again and realized that yes, the action is probably too high. So I now agree. Thanks.
Thanks
Welcome to the machine first part bends in twelve first notes are I interesting for exercise- I cannot do all right
I haven’t seen these tips from anyone else..That was very helpful!..I don’t easily subscribe to channels, but you have mine:)
Great video! Does it suffice to use one of these 5 tips while bending or should i use a combination of all of them?
Yes I think ideally you should be aiming to combine them, maybe best to focus on one at a time first though. Hope that helps
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Glad it helped
Are you referring to comfortably numb in the last section?
Bassist learning guitar. So what strings can I bend? I feel like high E is risky due having the most tension . some help?
This guy is a fuckin prophet. I am here because I went straight for that David Gilmour solo.... thanx for the tips muh guy

Frickiing awesome! Exactly the techniques I needed to take my bends to the next level of smoothness. No one explains these nuances.
3:12 Aww man, that's exactly why I'm here! Get out of my head!!
Dope guitar is that a modified tele?
came here because I'm struggling with the solo from "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2". Telling me to not go straight for a David Gilmore solo may have come a tad late 😂

This is literally exactly what I was looking for. Great tutorial!
My problem is that I can hear the higher strings buzzing instead
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🔥🔥🔥
Damn I went to dig into your content but there isn’t a lot. Why not do more tutorial
Glad you liked the video. The guitar tutorial videos just don't seem to do as well my others. If I get more requests I'll do more though. Thanks for commenting!

Bend by Michael Bendfield 😁
Rap snitches is a good song for bends
