i found a 2008 for 8.5 the other day so not expensive and you get that beautiful v8 noise and 300 horsepower so not too crazy on power which parents like, plus crazy after market support and forums if u wanna work on it, plus rwd
IM TRYING TO CONVINCE MY FAMILY THAT A PORSCHE CAYMAN WOULD BE A GREAT OPTION AND ITS A GOOD CAR THAT LOOKS SUPER COOL. IM TRYING TO GET A 2014 OR A 2009. DO U THINKS ITS A GOOD OPTION?
Funny cause some cars mentioned here are also mentioned in the “….cars you should never buy…” and “…..cars to avoid at all costs…” pretty contradicting don’t you think?
One car that should’ve been on the list is Volvo C30. 5 cylinder turbo, manual, good looking hatch and can be bought anywhere from $4000 to $7000 in a very good condition
I agree. Plus you're not driving an every-man's car and definitely see it stand out at the parking lot. Also, there are a few amazing colors to choose from, like safari green or orinoco blue metallic. I personally picked a 2006 C30 in Orinoco Blue and I think it's an amazing starter. Had to have the clutch replaced after it had passed the 160.000 mile mark, though. I would call that decent reliability. Although I find myself under-motorized at times (especially on steep inclines) and often have to shift down in order to keep the torque on point in my 1.6 petrol version (100hp), I would be very hesitant to recommend the T5 to a starter, though. Are we talking second or third car? Maybe. But definitely not as a first car, as we are talking about 230 hp here in a compact wagon. I think that's too much as a first, and that applies to many of the examples in this video as well. If I had to recommend a version of the C30 to a starter, I would probably go for the 2.0 petrol engine. It's an alright gas mileage, great engine with enough torque for any daily situation and still plenty of punch for it to be both a daily driver and a fun ride, especially if you let the revs go up on twisty roads. I guess 140 hp is definitely more than enough for a starter and offers enough power reserves for the years to come in a compact and light hatchback like the c30. Oh, I almost forgot: The C30 has some amazingly comfortable seats, as well! The only downside there, however, would be the 5-speed gearbox, which definitely could use a 6th gear for longer commutes.
With inflation I don't know when I'll get my first car like the ones in this list. From this list I would choose the Nissan 350, Toyota, or the Honda 8th generation
I have an NC Miata with the 5 speed as my first car, and it's been so much fun. No complaints, easy to learn stick on. I would recommend the NC generation over any other because it has the 2 liter, and it's generally considered to be the most practical out of any generation, so you can convince your mom.
Couldnt agree more. Grabbed a 6 speed NC1 with low miles as my daily for the summer and haven’t enjoyed driving more. It could easily be driven year round especially if you purchase one with a hard top.
@@envy2876 If you're looking for one at 7k, you're looking at higher mileage NC1's, which are a bit higher to come by. Mine was listed at 7500, got it for 7000, and it had a few cosmetic imperfections, and 148k miles.
"Just go DRIVE a Mini". I ask everyone who is looking for a fun car to take this advice. I never even considered buying a Mini, never crossed my mind, until I drove a friend's 06 Mini Cooper S. I bought one a month later. Seriously the most fun car to drive out there. I've driven Focus ST's, WRXs, Audis, and a bunch others because of friends that own them. I can easily say, Mini, while not the fastest of the bunch, are the most fun to drive.
100% agreed, I have a 2012 cooper base and even though it’s not the S its still super fun to drive on twisty roads, handles well and sounds great for a 4 cyl. The car is only at 56k miles and I’m going to keep it until it dies
Lexus' IS300 is probably one of the best first cars any teen or young enthusiast could get. Amazing platform, and well priced. Just take care of the cats and o2 sensors and keep up with regular maintenance. 👌🏾 Preme.
I wouldn't recommend a miata as a 1st car when u already move out, i always borrow my mom's highlander when i buy or moved big stuff It's probably the most reliable, fuel efficient and most fun to drive in this list but it's definitely a car u should own if u already have a 4 seater car
As a 8th gen civic si coupe owner I highly recommend it 👌 especially for those who might be a little negligent on maintenance sometimes due to financial restraint😉 😂
I bought a 2007 Mini cooper r56 base as my first car 6 months ago when I was 16. I bought it for only $5k. It's such an amazing and fun car and the high repair cost is well worth it.
I am Australian.. As a birthday 17th present, for a mates Daughter in the states.. I bought her the Last model Chevy ss.. Australian made, handles, has 4 doors, and creams a corvette or Comaro.. and looks like a rental, so doesn't get police attention.. but the giggle.. it is faster and handles better than anything they have..
I'd prefer the C4 as my second car because of its digital dashboard and it's sleek design, its pretty well fast enough and it's also fun to drive and since I'm a Corvette fan.
The best part about the Fiesta ST is that it was manual only which means that it wasn't equipped with the problematic DCT transmission that plagued the other Fiestas.
I have owned/lived with some of these Japanese cars on the list when I was younger. With my current lifestyle, the FR-S/BRZ/GT86 was the choice since I have a now kiddo and can put him in the back. Alas, the wife still misses her NC Miata, Mia, as she needed something more practical for work. Well that might change in a year or two haha.
As I drive a r53 supercharged Mini Cooper s for my first car, can say it is so much fun to drive, and sounds like a baby hellcat. Me and my buddy always go backroad driving, and i can happily keep up with his 2017 WRX when the going gets twisty. The thing handles like a go kart (I know cuz I worked at a go kart track for a year, they handle very similar) Better still, throw about $1000 into the engine and it will even keep up with a wrx in a straight line. They so lightweight it Doesn’t take much to make them fast. My car is the car everyone in my friend group loves, and it has so much character and has been relatively reliable even tho I have been beating the crap out of it, and I take 4 people and their backpacks to high school and back every day. The mini taught me a lot about how to drive a car fast, and a lot of people sleep on it, but that is until they see it in action. Amazing first car, can agree
You don't even need to throw $1000 to keep up with a WRX in a straight line. Just put in a smaller pulley for the supercharger, like a 15% pulley, and that alone gives it a big boost :) Mini is easily the funnest car I've driven though, literally feels like a street legal go kart.
yeah def not 10k for an FRS now a days, unless its a previously totaled or airbags deployed, i spent 2 weeks trying to get a gr86 or new BRZ for sticker price and nothing, so i took to a 2013 - 2016 one and all that are decent are around 20k. LUCKILY i just found a subaru dealer selling a sticker so i just put an order in on the 2022 BRZ im excited.
Right now I'd say any car you can get would be a good 1st car. I looked at used cars in my area when my engine seized and the going price was $8,000 for a car with over 100k miles. So yeah I kept my 25 year old car oldsmobile with 50k miles since $1,500 was alot less than $8,000.
Exactly, I started looking for a replacement for my current vehicle since it's over 300k miles, the prices on these used cars are nuts. I'll take my chances with what I've got.
the Subaru Forester 2.5xt is a perfect first car ,has all of the stuff from other cars like the offroad capabilities from a Jeep the speed of a 86 and the fun of a miata that will most probaly be my first car
0:35 on what planet is a running 86 or brz going for "around 10k". the 2013 models sell for so little because they have an open recall for a faulty engine ??? most of the cars on this list sell for so little because they have way over 100k miles. maintenance nightmare
I was looking at C4 vettes and came to the same conclusion. Not gonna cheap out on my daily if that means wrenching on it all the time. Got a 60k mile C5 instead, way worth it.
I already have one of my dream cars from your list and that is a 2013 Hyundai veloster Turbo, But the next one that I want to get from your list is a Jeep Wrangler and then the next 1 Is the Scion FRS
my new edge mustamg gt is fun to drive.. picked it up last july for 6500 when i was 18.. spun a bearing 3 weeks later bc the guy didn't really change the oil. hasnt ran since then but ive "built" a 6.0 Ls, stage 2 cam, LT headers, 3in straight pipe, pushrods, holley sniper intake, 92mm throttle body, termi x ecu kit, Ls7 lifters, valve job and ported heads and more stuff... dropping it in this week and im so excited.. after spending 15k total and not driving my stang for almost a year and only having driven it less than a month.. great car
I think a great car for this list whould have been the volvo s60 t5. A stylish looking car with 250hp stock. And also that volvo reliability and safety. A friend had one as his first car. It had been remapped to about 300hp and he still regrets selling it
I drive a jeep commander, and for all its (many) faults, its probably the most fun to drive large SUV you can get, maybe im biased, but looking online the 5.7l hemi model isnt too expensive, its got third row seating, and its quite capable offroad, especially if you put the time into adding a lift kit onto it. for what it is, it does what its meant to do perfectly, although one complaint is obviously the gas mileage.
It depends on what your budget is, but for me I'm a RWD type of person so I'd have to go 86 or 350z! Driving this FWD for around the past two years is painful, not a fan at all. I've driven the 86 too many times to count, have three friends with them and the handling and RWD platform is bar none one of the best, you'll want to throw on a supercharger if you want to make it fast though.
Do you think the 370Z could be a good first car in 3-5 years? Also, I thought you said the GT86/BRZ is expensive to insure for young buyers in your other vid
YESSSS FINALLY MENTIONED THE HONDA FIT😁😁😁 yea it’s slow but it’s fun to drive. Handles like a go kart and Can go well over 200k miles. I just hit 200k and still going and mine is a manual. Love that y’all mentioned the Honda Fit 👍🏼👍🏼💯
@Jacob De Marco Bro Ecoboosts are so much fun, change the blow off valve and tinker with the exhaust and you have beautiful, modern, and reliable daily driver that sounds like a classic jdm turbo tuner car with respectable power numbers to back it all up 😁👍
speaking of the Forester, you can also get the EVO equivalent, the 1st gen Outlander Turbo, which is literally an EVO VI on steroids (IDK if you can get those in the US, but I assume you can)
As a parent who raised and bought first cars for two kids, if it aint FWD, without an airbag and overpowered it wasn't considered (for my son it was a 2002 Cavalier Coupe with a 5 speed, for my daughter it was a 2000 Mazda Protege Automatic (she went to Western Washington U which is akin to driving in San Fransisco) both for safety and insurance costs........
I currently have a 2011 Kia Rio that I've been stuck with for 10 years, and I'm finally able now to start scrounging up some money for something different, more fun. But, I still want similar levels of gas mileage that the Rio had because screw those prices. Preferably something at least bigger than a subcompact and something that can keep up with my friend's stock 2009 Dodge Avenger (4-banger), bonus points for American company. I'm a broke college boy as well, and I won't be getting any help on this, so I'm hoping to sell my best musical instrument for a few grand, and the Rio is worth a couple stacks itself.
Get a 2008 Honda Fit. Fun cars and are more reliable than half the cars on the list. Also comes in manual since well…Honda lol. Yes it’s slow but it’s the equivalent to a Miata.

I assume insurance wasn't taken into consideration😂 that do be the deciding factor ultimately
Exactly my thoughts.
half of these cars don't have high insurance only the more expensive ones
350z/honda si/mustang leaning towards the Si mostly
whats the difference between frs,brz and gt86?
First car better be a charger jack!
I never owned a car before except just driving my parents cars however, I’ve been looking towards a sports car for years.
If you’re anywhere in Europe and they’re available the 07 Astra vrx is a amazing hothatch. Loved them since my dad had one when I was a kid.
I tink the Toyota 86 just might be the one for me
Genesis Coupe, bk 1 v6's aren't overly expensive and has 300+ HP
I wish the Honda Del Sol was still cheap like they used to be. Only ones I found where close to $3,000 and had +180,000 miles.
Def aiming for that C4
2008 chevy cobalt ss
what do you think of 350Z please let me know.
I also wish they would bring up the E85 Z4 more
350z is my dream car lmao and I might be able to get it as my first in 😄
is250 is really fun
LEXUS RX 350 is a Great suv for tall people
An SLK230 is a good starter car (if you can find one) because for a 2003 one you can get it for 7.5k
If I had to choose my first dream car off this list it would have to be the Ford Mustang Ecoboost
@Jacob De Marco Bro Ecoboosts are so much fun, change the
blow off valve and tinker with the exhaust and you have beautiful, modern, and reliable daily driver that sounds like a classic jdm turbo tuner car with respectable power numbers to back it all up
😁👍
@@Luke-lj6ts very well agreed
The 350z is perfect, just a little extra then that 200hp benchmark
not a good first car though
My first car was a e90 bmw. My mom's old car she gave me and it's honestly a great car but high maintenance so yeah
speaking of the Forester, you can also get the EVO equivalent, the 1st gen Outlander Turbo, which is literally an EVO VI on steroids (IDK if you can get those in the US, but I assume you can)
you can get an audi tt mk2 in my country from 6k to 12k
my dream first car is a mazda miata 1990's version
ok but which of these cars will get more than 20mog exept from the 86?
As a parent who raised and bought first cars for two kids, if it aint FWD, without an airbag and overpowered it wasn't considered (for my son it was a 2002 Cavalier Coupe with a 5 speed, for my daughter it was a 2000 Mazda Protege Automatic (she went to Western Washington U which is akin to driving in San Fransisco) both for safety and insurance costs........
I got a mk6 golf r last year not to expensive and is stage 2 only thing I'm working on is finding a water leak
Yeah. Great 1st cars. Well; just as long as you can afford the insurance.
Corvette all day but the jeep might the my first truck the 4 door one
I already got my car a 2004 Ford mustang gt convertible as a birthday gift but since I like helping I paid my dad all my savings which was $1,270
Over half of those are not good first cars due to cost of insurance. Been checking for my oldest who’s about to start driving.
Surprised to never hear the bmw 128i/135i mentioned. Great looks, drive, and price.
idk, reliabiity issues?
I would really like the FR-S but sadly there is like 3 in my parking lot already 😬, I kinda want to be a lil different so don't blame me 😂
Get a 2008 Honda Fit. Fun cars and are more reliable than half the cars on the list. Also comes in manual since well…Honda lol. Yes it’s slow but it’s the equivalent to a Miata.
Go the mini! It sounds like a hellcat with the supercharger and is a really fun car to drive!
It is so funny. I should currently be studying for a english exam....
