- Death by Design (2001) - Drugs including ecstasy are freely available inside Cape Town’s clubs, but more and more users are ending up dead. What's to blame?

Peter and Sylvia's daughter Miranda was a happy 17-year old, but tragically died of a bad reaction to ecstasy after experimenting with friends. Ecstasy is one of the most popular club drugs, but is also responsible for many deaths amongst Cape Town's youths. This report goes undercover within an allegedly 'drug free' club to find out the truth about this drugs crisis.

That bouncer manager knew exactly what was happening in those clubs
I am not pro drugs, but alcohol is sold unchecked, yet the deaths and extreme violence resulting from alcohol abuse is still is by far, way more dangerous than ecstacy.
Fast forward to 2020 and Cyril Beeka is dead after being assassinated under orders of Mark Liffman who's sidekick, Andre Naude, was the head of the bouncer group in this video that did not allow drugs in clubs (like Dockside). Now they have taken over the Cape Town clubs and flog drugs to all and sundry backed by Cape Flats gangsters. And Cronje, who got chased away by Liffman, has joined up with another big mouthed fraudster asswipe called Nafiz Modack to take back control of the clubs so they can instead sell drugs!! So nothing much has changed in the 20 years since this video..in fact, cops are even more corrupt and more people are on drugs today than back then!!
The accuracy of this and to think this was 4years ago 👏
😮😱😱😱
And now Mark Lifman is dead, killed yesterday. Who's next in line, same shit different decade
@@Killawattpsy Wouldn't have known if you said nothing 👏
we all getting recommended this coz of Lifman huh
If she took 4 she definitely wasn't an occasional user
Second that
Bingo
4 is crazy
Definitely not in 2001, E was a lot stronger back then.
Every parent never wants to admit they don’t know their child that much and is normal
As a South African clubber myself, I can't tell you for sure that the security boss is probably a dealer himself.
Thanks for stating the obvious bozo!
It was The Hells Angels that were bringing it all into the country from as early as 1992...the club bouncers were hired to keep the right dealers in the club and the opposition out...I clubbed in Jhb from 93 until about 02 and it was always the same story...
@RF19)))) Both...international syndicates too...
What are you doing in such a place. Decisions have consequences. You are one of thousands setting the example to the fragile youth to join, to their destruction.

Journalism, Drugs and Clubs over 20 ago in South Africa were far better than today
The irony. They interviewed Jacque Cronje years before he's arrested for his extortion ring
Hahaha, i thought my eyes were deceiving me. Cape town is deep, people don't realise!!!
I remember the from the gallery days, and the bouncers will all in on it!
A time in life never to be seen or repeated again. Special, with or without the drugs
JAQUE was a dealer,I bounced for pro for years, dealed as well in his clubs,Cyril Beaken was the main pooplall in the pack. He is trying hard to deny it,but people know who and what he is
Too late.
It's 2019 and as a young capetonian myself, I can tell you everyone in the club is on drugs.
We all addicted already
Was shocked how readily available drugs are in the clubs, especially in Cape Town. It’s so casual, like it’s nothing.
Buy from a reputable dealer.
Don't try to be a hero and show off.
This is like drug safety 101
so nothing changed since 80s doos

Good old days, when people were still able to afford Stuyvesant Blue with a couple of E's 🤭
Menthol...
LOL, the amount of effort involved to stop a few pills being sold 😂
Jacque Cronje knows and welcomes dealers
This is a drug den. Even his grandson is dealing inside his joint, how can you possibly walk in with 40 ecstasy tablets past the " competent" security? bite me.
The club owner and security guards know very well abt the drugs, is part of their business
I was at the pokemon party the night of the raid. Lights came on, music off and they came in full force. Was a good night 😅
2024 and the same names are in the news.
Scary feel sorry for young kids today
Great video thankyou
I know I'm seeing this a little late but can we take a moment to talk about the LV handbag @ 2:12

Damn
What a time capsule ek se.
Was thinking the exact same thing lol
They could raid any place with young people and find drugs.
Woo Pig Sooooie!!!
@@Feelthepaintoo Yes, Hogs fan? We are in the lean days and see no hope in the horizon. Thx
This will never be the same as the amazing raves of the nineties. The ecstacy was pure and everyone had an incredible time. Some of the best memories I had were from that time. People who die usually use a couple of tablets and get overheated and dehydrated. I never saw or heard of anyone die when I attended the raves of the nineties. You never going to keep Ecstacy out of the rave scene. Doesn't matter how many cops try to get involved. Ecstasy is part of the scene. Maybe focus more on drugs like Meth and Heroin where there is actually a problem. I havent taken ecstacy in 27 years but I have no regrets.
4 pills will kill, but so will a bottle of vodka which is legal.. Education is the key.
..and that is what kills them, they take shots to up the intensity with poppers and what not on top of more than one pill. ecstasy likes heat and a shot of booze is what gives it the vuma.. weak hearts and weak mids with cut pills on top of dop.. then they dop om and mommy and daddy THEN want to cry.. check your child man! 15,16,17 do random drug tests on them !!! a kit from the pharmacy could shock your "my child is a good child"out of you real quick..
not really
@@judeflynn9223 yes really.
You obviously do not know what you are talking about.
19 years later? same old same old
its cape town. an ecstacy overdose is one of the nicer ways to go out there.
An ignorant comment organ failure is not fun
The bouncers know the dealers because it goes hand in hand , and its still the same way in cape towns clubs to this day. But cocaine has become the drug of choice
It is easy to find these drugs. Police can arrest these drug sellers easily. But these police are paid. They are busy focused on petty things
Amazing how these parents never knew their kids were using drugs !!!!
Sex drugs alcohol
I went to Gallery one night with 4 in my pocket the bouncers confiscated it so I bought more from the dealer casually standing outside the toilet. Clearly working with the club and bouncers. MDMA is not really lethal its the other things they put in or its not even MDMA its PMA that's deadly.
I was a dealer and I promise you the bouncers leave the cubs dealers alone in fact the dealers must show up with the club staff.
She took 4 tablets, crazy
Fast forward to 2022, everybody brings cocaine, md and pills into to the clubs lol
Yeah but the risk of getting poisoned by fent or other substances is higher now.
oh please...in 80s,neverending.alcohol worst drugs
Their bodies, their choices.
4 pills?! Shes been doing that for a while... you dont drop 4 and expect to just "have a fun time"
Thank god im out of that scene.
Also her mate taking 10 pills 😂😂 in the UK they had tabs with 400mg MDMA in them, i think 150mg is overdose range? For the average person. Rough.
The parents are clueless and far removed from their kids life which was hidden.
That manager is soooo lying
wow 2001, the year I started clubbing. Takes me back.
Me watching this after going to truth on NYE:
Anybody know the name of the house/trance song they play at the end?
Komodo (Save A Soul) - Mauro Picotto or possibly a remix
Thanks so much!!! I found it
Just came here to hear a few Classics.
No mention of, cronje, liffman, naude, moddak silent partner (sea point) ,long retired and living well. Bouncer company to bouncer company, all zones split up BTW them.
what great memories
Every sport has it's injuries...
"Not a regular user" but she dropped 4 lol.. Sure
What are the pills like these days in SA? Anybody?
As long as you buy from a reputable dealer who gets the real deal from Netherlands, you getting top quality.
Don't buy anything from Nigerians though. Horrible quality.
check for yourself narc
When I went clubbing in KZN durban 8 years ago it was R50 , but this show is like the 90s and say R80 , it is very easy for you to get scammed and it being head ache pills or something cheap nothing from the pharmacy, youngsters are very stupid and desperate when you looking for a buzz
@@matthewstubbs4413 They used to be R60 in 2000 at the club 330....and amazing quality. I wonder if Durban still has a proper rave / warehouse type nightclub...
@@Cindy-v8k Ah so you can still get the real deal. Good to know... Netherlands can also have poor quality though .. i was there in 2012 and three different purchases all were average / poor, and I knew Dutch guys into the scene...not buying on the street
I am so glad that I have never used any recreational drugs.
Shame XD

She was only trying it.... took 4 pills and her friend took 10, I'm sure they where just trying it😂😂😂

everyone here looks like a character from a movie, from the menacing Cyril Beeka, the scaley Cronje, the scientist David Klatzow and ex inspector Abraham Smith, google Agent Smith, there's more to the story as to why he is an ex cop

I am also glad out of that scene bad. But STROKE can happen to any one. It is this troubling world we live in. What can you really expect. Husband succumbed to stroke. 2 years ago. There was no things of this nature in our lives

@@judeflynn9223 it was the sedeatartry lifestyle. Worries. He was in Simonstown merchant navy cable restorer freight ship. For years before he worked in factory in west Rand. Those were the days. You could a ton of drugs in. Best days of our lives. 1995 to 2000. Best clubs in Cape Town. They talk kak we were never properly search. you can take ten pills in wrapped in foil, under your tongue. Gallery was the best. When you walk in there all you could smell was tiger balm. You could snort a gram on the toilet seat. lsd, exstacy, schrooms and coke was freely available in every club.

So wait, these reporters wanted something done about the club because they didn't catch everybody?? Come on now! Many hide it in their pants, you want them to go around patting down nuts?
Dockside was rubbish anyway
I used to buy pills from the bouncers at Gallery!! Hahahahaha
yeah... ditto!
In sandton? 😭😭 people need a plug who sell pure crystals it’s the m€th in the pills and being dehydrated that kills i took 500mg pure and was fine

four ecstasy pills??? that person had a massive problem. half of one is enough for most people

Parents always feel like it's someone else's fault their kids use drugs.. Your relationship with your child should supercede anything else...get involved.. Clubbing is a no no..
This looks like drug den
Lol they know what's going on. They are lying. I was bust by Sanab in 2000. These people stole my drugs and my case was thrown out
And and uhhh and uhh. I have used buckets full in that late 90's into the early 2000. These people have no idea really what they talking about. Had no rehab no intervention, committed no crimes whilst taking those pills. I definitely wont endorse it. But these clowns have no idea what they talking about
Is the gallery still going?
Lol no closed many years ago the scene is pretty much dead these days
@@BladeRiderZA even in JHB?
I was in the gallery a lot 2002 2003
Yeah JHb the same people on groups always talk of the old days.
@@BladeRiderZA is there really no raves or anything anymore
I much prefer the jazz festivals. Errol Dyer. Robbie Janse Van Rensburg. Idris Hotip Galletta. More refined. And classic but me and late husband. Did not live in Cape town for exposure. To this Moreover these musicians mentioned. Lived in a different ere to us. Where colour bar was enforced. Perhaps. For the better. Don't like rave club music. Too immature. He wouldn't have either. Never went to club in. Hillbrow. For the best
Its hard to do security at places like that I worked for rtm in Milwaukee and did lots of concerts with drugs there amd you'll catch a few people but the ones who know how to avoid getting caught on a pat down.
Also it takes one security person to say yeah to someome they know and put the bag of alot of stuff in a trash can in a bathroom and the person could be let in ahead of the line so they have the most and right away inside
It's not good that these young children are taking drugs some even with the parents it is sad but kids no what it can do but still they think they no better there should be extreme something done about this get those at the top they say drug tree but they can lie do something fast
"E's are good, E's are good, he's Ebenezer Goode...."
