  • Hey guys, Thank you so much for your support of mom's channel.
    She has been busy in the garden this year. One of the community gardens has an abundance of purple hull peas so mom has pick a bunch to freeze to eat later.
    As always, if you have questions, please post here.
    Like if you found her "hey Google" as funny as I did. My 83 year old mom is so high tech LOL.. Stay safe everyone and happy gardening.
    Please subscribe so that we can monetize her channel.

    Thank you Miss Laverne, this is just how my momma did it. I haven’t put up peas in a few years & wanted to make sure I remembered the right way.

    Great video!! I use a straw to suck out the air ,seal bag up to the straw then when you have all the air out pinch the bag off and pull the straw out and seal the corner

    Love the simplicity of this video. It’s to the point. My mother’s name was Laverne. I can see her in the kitchen doing this all over again. Wish I would have asked questions while she was still alive.
    Her children will be blessed to have these videos.
    Thanks

    Thanks so much! I’m finally growing purple hulls in the mountains in NC! Warming is real and it’s ok with me as far as growing peas go. I’m from south Alabama.

      @@LaverneLawson We got intense heat...record breaking! I thought my plants weren't happy because of spider mites...then I realized it was the heat and put shade cloth over them. They perked up and gave me a few pods, but nothing like they should produce.
      I just about gave up on them and pulled them into the sun in late August.
      I noticed as the heat lifted they were coming back. I started tending them well and got loads of pods!😄
      The ones I planted later in other areas of the yard did great. I have serving sized bags in the freezer to eat on for a while.
      I plan on growing them next year.👩🏾‍🌾
      Thanks for asking.😃

    3. Thank you for this tutorial. I followed the one for freezing fresh okra and it worked wonderfully.
    4. Finally, any recommendations on how to preserve a leftover harvest of jalapeno peppers?

    • @LaverneLawson
      @LaverneLawson  3 роки тому +1

      Good question. Yes, you can freeze them. Don't blanch them. Wash them, de-seed, let them dry and put them in freezer bags.

    Thank you. Wanted to make sure I was doing it right. The only thing I do differently is I have a bowl of ice water waiting so when done boiling I pour the peas into a colander to drain the hot water off of it and then I immediately dump them in the ice water and then I picked the guy's cubes out of it after a few minutes and pour them back into the colander and bag them. My worry was do you have to wait until the peas are dry before bagging them but I see that every video I have watched nobody is doing that it seems they are bagging them up immediately after getting them out of the ice water so thank you very much for your video 😊

      Yes! The freezing will work for all peas. I have not tried drying, mostly because I prefer frozen.

    • @LaverneLawson
      @LaverneLawson  2 роки тому +1

      Enough water to cover the peas, bring to a boil season the water salt, onions, garlic, we use a little vegan butter, but a little bitter goes a long way. Add frozen peas cook until they are tender
