The father and grandfather who rescued the child were Indian Sikhs. It's a big problem with migrants and tourists who come from countries where it's not normal to learn to swim as babies or children as it is in coastal, lakeside or riverside communities especially here.

Not only that. Theres a Pakistani and an indian channel on youtube that both shows them take trips and so on.. And when they're at rhe ocean or even a water park they're always really strange around water. They act like the sea is normally a little pond so they say things like.. Look how it goes on all over the beach.. Or act like its a living thing.. Its hard to explain but i cant swim but still act normally around water. So if in a water park I will go in the ride as long as the water only reaches above the waist and thats always the case.. So when on a slide and hitting the water i just go in it and come up instantly. I dont get the feeling i cant get up or I don't know what's up and down. But these guys act like water can grab them and eat them or something. It looks really strange to me. But then again their fears are never logical to me..

IGA is an American franchise company. American IGA stands for Independent Grocers Association..... but it got changed for Aus for some reason 🤷 So they pretty much just sold the rights to use the name.
They are our 4th largest supermarket and are actually usually pretty good little supermarkets

Hi Ryan, we have had a real spate of drownings among people not born in Australia lately. This family was from a certain South Asian country where education in water safety and swimming lessons are not routine like they are here. The biggest region for immigration from that country to Victoria is from an inland state, so they are also not accustomed to the ocean. Four family members from that same country (sorry to keep referring to it like this, but I am a Boomer and have no idea if I would be considered racist for naming the country) drowned in the ocean off a Victorian beach this summer. I visited Warburton, which has the upper reaches of the Yarra River running through it, with my family this Good Friday. The river was running pretty rapidly. A family from unsaid country was wading in the river and sitting on the rocks in the river and I immediately was concerned they might fall in and start drowning. In my mind, I was rehearsing in what order I would throw off my clothes to jump in and rescue them. When I mentioned it later to my family members, they were all thinking exactly the same thing.

Coles don’t always throw out food, unless it’s mouldy or inedible. I volunteer and take all the food from my local Coles that they are discarding (day old bread, fresh food, food in dented cans/packaging etc) to the local Salvation Army to give to those in need. Nearly all grocery stores in Aus do that too.
Also that Gnarabup sign is the most West Aussie thing I’ve seen today. The spider!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I do love Huntsmen though, they’re beautiful spiders 🖤🕷️

Most big supermarket chains, including Coles, throws out so much organic food (fruit and veggies) because they aren’t shaped or coloured right. It’s a huge problem, feel free to research this (or I am pulling all of this out of my ass because I know this from a documentary from school)

I don't know if it's just Melbourne, or just Victoria, or Australia-wide, but some years ago Coles here reached some kind of agreement with Melbourne's French Patisserie chain "Laurent" to overhail their in-house baked goods, and ever since the Coles bakery products have been _waaay_ better than the Woolworth ones (even when they sometimes look identical). Their hot-cross buns are excellent: The ones in the picture are also Coles' apple-and-cinnamon variety vs IGA's raisin, chosen so the fruit pieces look smaller. The Coles ones were also obviously deliberately squashed. (Though Coles' standard ones are very soft, brioche-like bread and squash easily, and I haven't had the IGA ones but in the picture they look firmer and bread-ier; there are also "standard" and "deluxe" versions of the buns as well at Coles at least, so it might have been an unfair comparison of deluxe IGA vs regular Coles).
BTW the supermarket candy shelves were labelled by parent company, not by actual label. Mondelez owns Cadbury, Oreo, Toblerone and others - those are the brands you'd recognise and see on the actual wrappers!

In my town we have IGA Drakes which a branch of IGA.
The Independent Grocers Alliance (IGA) was founded in 1926 to bring family owned, local grocery stores together under the IGA brand. IGA was started in May 1926 when a group of 100 independent retailers in Poughkeepsie, New York; and Sharon, Connecticut; led by J. Frank Grimes, organized themselves into a single marketing system.

When I traveled to America.. first class of course, we met American counterparts discussing home brands and other crap.. WHICH THEY PUSH TO THE MAX BECAUSE ITS WHERE THEY MAKE THE MOST PROFIT IN AMERICA.. and the awards ceremony for the best supermarket was held in America.. with the South Africans there to oversee the event. It’s a convoluted history.. but the South Africans still have a major say in what happens.. All I will say is don’t trust any of them.. 😂😂😂

We have an IGA supermarket around the corner that we support. We get a few things at ALDI and very little at Woolies. There are 4 or 5 IGA supermarkets within 25 minutes from our house. The one in town is huge. Ours even opened on Christmas Day in case anyone needed something for half a day. All of their staff were paid to stay home but ours are family owned and the owners and their families worked at Christmas and Easter. It is kind of like when the Butcher comes out to say hello and he knows your name. He also knows what cuts of meat we like and how we like it cut. We don’t buy off the shelf because he cuts ours fresh and it reminds me of when I was a child a long time ago.

Apparently the Indian origin family were non swimmers. The mother and young child were in the shallow end of the pool, but somehow the little one drifted to deeper water, the mother also not able to reach the child in the deeper water. The father and grandfather, though unable to swim, dove in to try to save the child.
As the general area apparently was not well occupied, other than this family, no one else was there to immediately help. The father and grandfather both ended in deep water struggle immediately.
Not fully explained in news I saw, the mother and child then were rescued abd safe. But father and grandfather when retrieved from the pool were not able to be revived by paramedics, died at the poolside.
Considerable pressure is now on to have extended support for swimming lessons for everyone. Basically "Why do non swimmers keep going into water, without some basic water skills?" I realise that in some 'accident' circumstances it is possible to drown in a bowl of water, but recent times there have been too many drownings of people without any swimming experience drowning, both in swimming pools and even entering open ocean SURF conditions. Sadly Indian origin people have especially stood out in the recent statistics.

Oh and the one thing coles does better than anywhere else are their cakes, their mud cakes are famous here and they in the last 5 years or so have also started to do a layered rainbow sponge great with vanilla buttercream that is really good as well as fancy cupcakes and even the macarons aren’t too bad (but very pricy), they also do some fancy layered chocolate deserts served in individual desert glasses (comes in a pack of 2), that aren’t too bad in price considering you get the glass it comes in as part the price.

Well you can spend a little more to support Australian owned stores, like Independent Grocers Australia, or you can support WW and Coles and give your money to super corporate American based investors. Alternatively, you can buy from German owned Aldi.
Google check of major investors in any so called Australian store will show just how much these US based corporations own of us Aussies.

I believe EVERY flight into Australia should show mandatory Water Safety Video's, about swimming between the flags, why we have patrolled beaches, what rips are and hard to spot them. About sandbanks and how waves can sweep you off your feet - even knee deep. Also about currents in rivers and streams etc. Essentially, don't go in water if you can't swim!
Also about the hazards of heat and importance of keeping hydrated, as well as what 'distance' means when heading Outback - and NOT to rely on Google Maps etc!
Also Warnings about the exponential rise of 'Deaths By Selfie' occuring wortldwide, by people jumping over safety barriers and posing on the edges of scenic spots for that 'once in a life-time' { last of a life time ] 'shot'. A whole new Darwin Award category.
You can't Legislate against stupidity, but surely in a 20 or 12 hour flight travellers can spare 20 minutes to watch a safety vid or 2?

The hot cross buns get stacked up by customers who are rumbling through them to find the best pack, so as the days go by, they get flatter. What’s even funnier is that some IGA stores buy from Coles, which proves my point. Customers don’t care if they’re crushing the bread buns.

So sad, I'm very surprised there was no one about who could have saved the father and grandfather in time even if by throwing something in which can float. (Most Aussies are able to swim except mostly immigrants).
You need to try some hot cross buns (very popular in Australia at Easter time, we only have them then). cut in half and toast them and spread on real butter. I'm not a sultana fan but in these buns they are actually nice.

The young child should have been supervised by an adult who could swim, or else not be allowed in the pool area at all.
