It’s a burger. You guys call it a sandwich, but a sandwich has 2 slices of bread. The bun makes it a burger.
If its hot its a burger. If it's cold its a sandwich.
If its cold it’s a roll…. If it’s in sliced bread it’s a sandwich…,,
@@LikkieAUYou may be amused to know that I once tried to order a ham roll in Brussels. I didn’t know the French word for a roll so I asked for “un sandwich de jambon”. Who knew that “sandwich” said in a French accent actually means “roll”. 😂
🍔Yup! In Germany when it‘s inside a bun, it‘s a burger!
We have beef burgers, chicken burgers, fish burgers, pulled pork burgers, veggie burgers…
Sorry Ryan.😉
@@Dr_KAP
Sorry, but Sandwiches are named after John Montagu, Earl of Sandwich.
Burger is between 2 buns. Sandwich is between 2 slices of bread.
sizzle is between one slice of bread
@@jwnomadFolded over
It's either a chicken burger or a cheese sandwich. Which way yanks? You can't have both.
A bun is bread
Its a burger, sandwich is sliced bread, burger is a round bun
A bun is bread
America is probably the only place that calls it a chicken sandwich. The rest if the world calls it a chicken burger.
Koalas always stare into nothing. They are stoned 24/7
Literally.
The leaves they eat are full of alcohol
@@c8Lorraine1 dont say that because now i want to go out and eat eucalyptus leaves
The term ‘sandwich’ comes from the Earl of Sandwich requesting his roast beef be placed between two slices of bread. This was so he could co to use playing some card game or something. So if it’s not on two slices of bread it’s not a sandwich.
Sliced bread wasn’t invented until the 20’s
@@macdac9861 Pre-sliced bread wasn't invented till the '20's. There, I fixed it for you.
@@macdac9861 Ah - so they had to have two loaves of bread instead of two slices? Or maybe the knife was invented and they - wait for it - sliced their own bread!!!!
@@macdac9861 So you think people couldn't slice their own bread with a knife?
@@juliewoodman2439 no I’m saying that there weren’t different types of bread such as sliced/burger buns. Most would just tear chunks of bread apart therefore the type of bread didn’t define what it was called. A sandwich is to just sandwich something between two pieces of bread
Aussies terms are based on the bread used. As in a burger bun or regular sliced bread. Here we have both steak burgers and steak sandwiches :)
Exactly....
most of the world*
Wow someone who actually knows a bun is a type of bread
If you ask an Australian if they want a Burger they ill expect it to be on a round bun, If you ask them if they want a sandwich they will expect to be between to slices of bread. If you ask them if the want a roll, they will expect it to be on a long bun (like Subway).
Traditional burger buns in Australia are normally squarish and they smell really good.
If I asked it to be in a roll, I'd presume I'd get a round lunch roll (like you get at any bakery/supermarket). Not a Sub-style roll.
@@smalltime0 yes, a 'tall' bun, usually with a thicker crust in contrast to a burger roll that tend to be flatter and softer. can't say I have seen much on the 'sub' roll like subway except for in subway. sometimes you will see them pre-made and over priced in a cafe, but then you're more likely to see a focaccia or panini.
@@myopinion69420 continental_drift confirmed fake Australian
If I want my sandwich fillings in a roll it's round, but made differently to a burger bun. Subway is just subway. I grew up with and still have sandwich meat with salad fixings in a roll, single or double cut - it's the norm at bakeries and delis etc. We also have the squarish flat rolls, but we tend to use them with Savoury slices (if yah know, yah know) in my neck of the woods.
Today, Ryan learnt the difference between a burger and a sandwich
In my day, a yank tank was a classic Chevy. Not high, but long & wide.
They're still using that term for those oldies. A mate bought a New Yorker and needs 4 spaces to fit it. It's so damn long, you could easily camp in the boot if you wanted to..
Ryan, you need to get on a zoom session with us and we can further your education in all things OZ - Particularly your pronunciation! 😅
especially when Ryan says 'oot' instead of 'ute' (yout). 😊
But please make it a polire sesson (well as polite as we Aussies are when we are tempted to us less polite language)
And Maggi ~ Majee not Maggie 😆😆😆
@@necianicholas2878 He knows it's "yout", he's just trolling us, like he used to do with "Eemoo".
It's a burger. Because of the burger bun. It's the bun that makes it a burger.
Exactly. Otherwise it wouldn't be called a cheeseburger it would be called a cheese sandwich.
We don't have the Northern Lights / Aurora Borealis in Australia (clue is in the name), we have the Southern Lights / Aurora Australis. So that person from Bendigo was either not an Aussie, or just didn't realise we get the phenomenon too but by a different name.
I picked up that too but couldn't remember the name. My friend near Chilten, Victoria, got some good pictures on Saturday night.
It's an obvious Simpsons reference, not somebody who doesn't know North from South.
@@Ausecko1 Oohh! I guess it's more obvious if you've seen enough Simpsons to come across it...
Feral cats were responsible for several extinctions.
Humans are responsible for more including ones caused by cats, dogs, foxes, camels, horses, rabbits and everything. Then of course, there's all the habitat loss due to clearing land for rabbit warren hosing estates
How do you prove that? What evidence are you using?
@@michellesartori6695 www.dcceew.gov.au/environment/invasive-species/feral-animals-australia/feral-cats#:~:text=Feral%20cats%20threaten%20the%20survival,%2C%20bandicoot%2C%20bettong%20and%20numbat.
Feral cats threaten the survival of over 100 native species in Australia. They have caused the extinction of some ground-dwelling birds and small to medium-sized mammals. They are a major cause of decline for many land-based endangered animals such as the bilby, bandicoot, bettong and numbat. Many native animals are struggling to survive so reducing the number killed by this introduced predator will allow their populations to grow.
Guarantee humans caused a lot more extinctions
@@michellesartori6695 By the contents of their stomachs when dead. There are many records what they eat. Go look for the research yourself.
Fun fact, I have not seen a single person who owns a yank tank ever take it off road or to work. They are pretty little road princesses, god forbid they get a scratch or dent
Exactly!!!!
The only problem with that Fairy Bread is that they didn't cut the crust off. 😆
If it still has the crusts on, it's not fairy bread at all, just some imposter.
The real problem is, it was made with american bread. Meaning, there's probably more sugar in the bread than in the hundreds & thousands.
Bloody heathens! 😂
I’m Australian, I never cut my crust off and I still call it fairy bread.
Gee I haven’t had fairy bread in years. As a child at a party with the crusts cut off - loved it. Had it as an adult, then I thought it was revolting lol
It's a chicken burger hence it is on a burger bun. What do you call chicken between 2 slices of bread if not a chicken sandwich.
Right like why can we have a ham burger and steak sandwiches but not chicken burgers
It's not only Aussies that call it a burger. It's only Americans (or probably North Americans) that call it a sandwich. I could be wrong, but that's my understanding.
Cats are territorial… very. Feral cats here have no real enemies and hunt small endangered native species… the Bilby is an example. Feral cats in America are controlled in number by wolves, coyotes and larger cats like puma etc…
while I am at it...not only will getting yank tanks of our roads double available parking, but will halve our road deaths/injuries. Bastards are lethal.
That title of the photo was wrong. It's the Aurora australis here.
It's a joke from The Simpsons...
Ryan, do you think yourself and the Family will get to visit Australia?? I'm sure you would love it!! Aussie hugs my lovely ✨️🇦🇺🩷🇦🇺✨️

In Australia at a fish and chip shop, you can usually get a variety or burgers including beef patty, steak, chicken, fish, and others
Cats are so smart that they wait until you are not looking , then display their apex predatorship
A Sandwich is two slices of bread with something in between
with an emphasis in meaning on the word “slices”. Otherwise it’s considered to be one of the other bread products, such as a roll (i.o.w. a “sub” as in Subway), a (sliced) bun or a burger. It’s the bread, not the contents, that makes the difference in nomenclature here.
Gina Rinehart has in the past also demanded the right to import cheap labour from third world countries and pay them about 16% of Australian wages. She thinks she owns this country.
Common theme around the world with a certain category of people.
She owns the LNP already, so she's on the way.
She owns the whole Australian Olympic team and has the national swimming team acting as her personal lobby group.
That Gina R portrait is pretty true to life. Show anybody the portrait and they could immediately say who it was. That is in my humble opinion the definition of a portrait. 😂😂
She practically does 🤯
I had toxoplasmosis when pregnant after unknowingly in contact with cat faeces while gardening and my child was born blind in one eye. I was unaware of the cause for many years. I hate cats.
❗️❗️❗️
Yes! Never let a pregnant clean the cat‘s toilette!!!
I‘m sorry that happened to your kid.😔
So sorry to hear that. You couldn't have known, just as my mother couldn't have known. Only found out I was born with a toxo retinal deformity in my late 30s. Count my blessings that it is outside my field of vision when it could so easily have been otherwise.
This is why I find it so shocking that cats are currently allowed to roam! It's well known that they like to choose places like kids sandpits in their neighbour's yard as their toilet, putting pregnant women at really high risk, but currently powerless to do anything about the cat doing that! This is the reason so many cats get poisoned, really can't blame a lot of people for doing it. Needs to be proper legislation to protect all! Is a no brainer to me that rules should be the same as for dogs!
Why not wear gloves when gardening??
@@heatherhoward2513 oh yeh, cause that solves the problem right? sarcasm there if that's not clear. Washing hands in theory stops it too, but real life is not so simple! Ever worn gloves while gardening? If so, exactly what gloves have you found effective? I have a mix of washing up gloves & leather gloves I use but none really work, washing up gloves get holes easily from the rough work, leather gloves don't stop water penetrating, which means your hands end up covered with mud that gets under your nails as it penetrates the gloves in liquid & fine sediment form & I am yet to find an effective way to clean leather gloves once they have that mud inside them, multiple cycles in the washing machine gets rid of a lot of it, but not all & it's a huge waste of power & water to wash them over & over like that, hence why I try washing up gloves for gardening in wet soil or anything where I will be using a hose, but again I still tend to find my hands & under my nails covered in fine mud, due to the holes in the gloves making them leak.
Gardening gloves are good for preventing injuries from thorns & sharp rocks in the soil, but really not much else
Meat fish or chicken put on a BUN is a burger , meat fish or chicken put on slice bread is a sandwich

The artists is a Namatjera most likely related to the famous Namatjera so it might be retribution for her mining company destroying his environment.
my god, that painting of Rinehart is hideous.

@@jennifercampbell7698 true. Good point.
Well it is a painting of something hideous
If you put it between burger roll/bread rolls it's a burger. A sandwich is something between 2 slices of bread. Got it right? Right 😅
...and to be more specific buttered slices of bread
It's also called a burger in the UK, Ireland, NZ, South Africa, India and Fiji. Pretty sure this is only because it was first called that at Maccas, KFC and BK/HJs in those countries.
As far as I know it's called a burger in most of Europe as well. It's just the same as a "regular" burger, just with another type of meat.
Australia (and most of the world) don't call the meat patty a burger...we don't grill burgers...we grill beef patties to go into a burger as part of a filling...this term only refurs to hot fillings...if cold it would be a roll (ham and salad roll)
Thanks to toxoplasmosis, the stereotype of a "crazy cat lady" isn't as much of a joke as people think it is.

Ryan, Australia has the worst mammal extinction record in the world. We have lost more native mammals than most counties complete mammal lists. 34 unique marsupials have been lost forever primarily due to fox and cat predation. This carnage has all happened since they were brought over with white settlement.
True, very true. My 'pet' hate, is when cat owners say that there cat would never kill anything except for x y z (insert rat, mouse, bird non native of course). Cat's do not distinguish between native and non native, they literally don't give a rat's arse as it's their natural born instinct. Desexing and microchipping does bugger all except stop population explosions, they still decimate our local wildlife and spread disease.
When I was little mum put Jelly crystals on bread too
A burger refers to two halves of a burger bun and any filling that may be in between.
Vincent Namatjira’s portrait of Adam Goodes was in a similar style to his portrait of Rinehart. She just thinks she’s entitled to better and demands stained glass.
No large natural predators in Australia, so cats and foxes are the top of the food chain and wreak havoc on Australia’s mostly small native animals.
The fact that you have free roaming cats in the US is the reason you don't have free roaming birds.
...since we have NO car manufacturing in Australia, it's a long way to import ANY car. Anyone with sense buys Asian. Keep up Ryan.
If you use a burger bun it's a burger.
Ryan, your use of Aussie slang is brilliant. Sliding in 'old mate' etc... You'll fit in fine if/when you and your family visit. You'll have no shortage of tour guides around the country. Well done mate. Take care. 🇦🇺😁🇺🇸
It’s actually the Aurora Australis. I understand “borealis” means “northern”. & we have had it this year, even that far north. We don’t usually see it except in Tassie.
Western Australia often have it. May not be as often, but they do see it.
Borealis means northern, australis means southern.
A burger can be anything you like. Main ingredient apart from the bun can be :- ground beef (risole), fish, thick ham, chicken, tofu, halloumi etc. Don't know why they call them hamburgers when typically there is no pork ingedients? PS Enjoy your reactions. Cheers
I can't be sure but I think I read somewhere hamburgers were named after Hamburg, Germany. 😊
Look up sandwich
To give a small amount of explanation about the new "ute tax", it's basically how they're classified... so it's that they're a commercial vehicle, so if it's registered under a personal registration it's a higher bracket, if it's however registered under a business it is on a variable slope - a white collar business is higher than blue collar - and primary producers are a separate category (ie. Farmers).
The Koala on the left.. be very very careful of. Especially if you are in the bush, its overcast with humid air and you hear a growl in the tree top... RUN..
Ryan, I think you might have confused these two :
Roughly 4% to as high as 12% of CEOs exhibit Psychopathic traits, according to some expert estimates, many times more than the 1% rate found in the general population and more in line with the 15% rate found in prisons.
Toxoplasmosis results from infection with a common parasite found in cat faeces and contaminated food. It can cause serious complications for pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems.
I think the painting flatters her.
Those utes from America are nearly 25% larger than what was already available.
We have over 20 makes of Ford Ranger size 2 or 3 to 5 seat utes.
Another point about that photo is that the driver was inconsiderate. There was enough space to fit the ute within the lines.
10:50, That portrait looks more like Dame Joan Sutherland, than Gina.
We had our owncar its called a HOLDEN
*cough* it was a GM brand from 1931
TBH all they did here was the commodore, the rest were rebadged GM lines with minor alterations for Australian conditions (improved air filters and AC and the like)
@@smalltime0 Actually the Monaro was made here first as well, and sold over there as a Pontiac GTO
@@WarLordArtos The version of the Pontiac GTO was a 3rd gen Monaro, which was effectively a suped up Commodore.
But you're right, the OG Monaros were Australian - but the first gen initial badges used Chevy engines, they predate the classic Holden V8s by a few years.
It’s Aurora AUSTRALIS innAustralia … not Borealis …
Yeah. If they could see Aurora Borealis from Bendigo, I would think reality must have changed somehow.
Part of the reason why utes are so common is their preferential tax treatment. Wondering how many of them are actually used for commercial purposes.
Australia’s car manufacturing industry was driven away (see what I did there? Try the fish; I’m here til Tuesday) by the former conservative government. But the closure of factories started under the Hawke/Keating Labor governments in the early 1990s with the end of Nissan.
There is only a tax benefit if it's used for commercial purposes
That portrait of Gina was surprising, but when you see the images of the rest of the portraits, it doesn't stand out.
We have a curfew in Melbourne and it’s a win win for the cats and the native animals. Cats that live indoors live longer and look up,the outdoor cat runs we have attached to our homes.
If it’s served on a bun then it’s a burger.
If it’s served between two slices of bread then it’s a sandwich.
A hamburger may not have any ham on it. You call it a hamburger if it has a meat patty. From the style of Hamburg, apparently.
We Aussies do too.
But a burger is on a bun regardless of the filling.
We used to produce our own vehicles but all the manufacturing plants have since shut down... we had Holden (Australia's branch of GM) we had Ford and Chrysler which became Mitsubishi.... Holden also badged some of the vehicle as Toyota, Ford badged some as Mazda. We even exported Australian designed and manufactured cars to the U.S and even as far as Finland, Nepal and Ecuador
Ryan's sense of humour is top notch. 👍😄
I must admit that this is the first video I have really laughed out loud at.
We had car manufacturers. Till everone went broke
Hi from a town close to Bunbury, Western Australia where the tornado hit. It was about 2km away from my daughters home. 8 homes have been written off and many more damaged. The local Police and Citizens, known as PCYC was hit, and is still a pile of rubble. Fallen trees still line many roads. I drove past today, on my way to visit my daughter. Thought it was lucky to miss the hospital just a few kms away.
It's not the first one in my lifetime. One hit in the last 20 years ago but hit more closer to the centre of town and train station.
In the same week we were blessed with some very beautuful southern Aurora Australis light show that went on for a few days.
The Ford Ranger is made in Thailand and is Australia’s most popular vehicle. The RAMS and Silverado’s are around the $160k and are popular with caravaners
Rams are very popular with people with small decks
we only recently started getting the 'yank tanks', the 'labourers' all made do with utes/vans and small actual trucks. they are mostly bought by people who don't even use them for what they are good for, towing. (not to mention, what we can tow with that class of vehicle here in Aus is a lot less than you can over in the US)
There has only ever been one implication of someone owning this vehicle or something like it and really using it for what it's meant for. 3 years ago I spotted a massive ute with a 5th wheel installed in the ute bed, parked next to that ute could only be described as a small yacht on a 30ft trailer. Haven't seen anything quite like it since.
@zekyu8474 exactly. I have only ever seen 2 5th wheelers in person (attached to a 'reguler vehicle') one was a modified ~90's mazda ute and the other was a early 00's f250
Those American UTES are between $60,000 - $90,000 US dollars $100,000 -$175,000 AUD . They are converted to factory approved right hand drive in Australia . GM “ Holden” Ford , Toyota , Nissan , Mitsubishi all had domestic car manufacturing in Australia until 2017
Ryan, those Yank tanks are stupidly expensive as they are all converted to Right hand drive by a Melbourne based manufacturer who used to convert our Holdens into Muscle cars. They cost from around $100,000 to $170,000. The F150 is stupid as its price ranges $250,000 to. $280,000 (AU).
You can have your cat outside but it must be contained in a cat run
Well I’m an Aussie living in Australia and I found out today that there are two different subspecies of Koalas!!!! Thank you for that.
really? You've never heard of the drop bear before? (or better known as the stuffed bear in this photo)
Usually, if it's in sandwich bread, it's a sandwich, if it's on a bread roll, it's a burger. We have an indoor cat who is only allowed out under human supervision.
You have a phenomenal weekend too Ryan!
In Australia, cats get outside at night and go stalking our native wildlife, many of which are smaller than cats and are killed for no reason because the cats just hunt and not for food. Their owners already feed them. The cats that are feral are even worse and kill many more native animals every night. They have even stalked farm animals like chickens, and many native birds not just in the wild but in bird sanctuaries and zoos! Ao this post makes lots of sense.
and birds are out in the day, not night, so it is the daytime roaming cats that decimate them! Their saliva is highly toxic to our birds & many other native animals, ANY skin break & the animal will be dead within 24 hours from the infection. Wildlife rescues ALWAYS administer antibiotics to ANY animal that has had any encounter with a cat, as it's their only possible chance for surviving
Us Brits call your sprinkles as you say 100 and 1000😊
There's only one species of koala but three subspecies.
Re: Burger vs sandwich - Just another example of Americans changing the meaning of a word. In this case it's benign, but occasionally it just weird and even dangerous - like the word 'liberal' was changed by Americans to almost the opposite of its original meaning.
RYAN, RYAN, RYAN... a friendly correction. I see this in many of your postings and have finally got around to mentioning it. The plural of "Australian" is "Australians" NOT "Australian's". The apostrophe is only used to denote possession as in "the dog's tail" or "the Australian's pedantic correction postings". Happy arvo and peace out.
We call the bug:Kellerassel (Germany)
Not known as Aurora Borealis in Australia. It’s called Aurora Australis or the Southern Lights. 😊
Yeah the Bunbury tornado was a weird phenomenon tbh I have never heard of tornados in WA where I am till on the news the other day
I live in Canberra & it’s been banned to have any outdoor cats that were born after a certain date. They aren’t going to do anything about the cats that are already trained to go in & out but you can’t have an outdoor cat if you’re starting with a kitten. They don’t have to ban adult cats from going outside, they just have to wait for them to pass in 2-3 years. Unfortunately the life expectancy of outdoor cats is usually that short. Having said that our indoor/outdoor cat died last year at 17 years old. Good luck out there cats 🐈 🤞🏻❤️🫡
Anything in a bun is a burger, anything in bread is a sandwich
Tornadoes are un heard of in Australia so that 1 in Bunbury (near me) was so bizarre
It's a burger. Check out the origin of the sandwich. 1762. The fourth Earl of Sandwich ( Lord Montague) asked for roast beef between two slices of bread ( not a bun, not a roll, two slices of bread).
Here in Victoria, our cats are NOT allowed out at night to save our birds possums etc
Ford and GM (Holden) Both had manufacturing plants in Australia. GM left first, just after they took a multi million dollar handout from government to stay in business here and protect jobs. Ford left a few years later.
The Ford Ranger and some others are manufactured in Thailand. Factory became fully owned by Ford Motor Co in 2012. Cars manufactured in Thailand are for delivery to the Sth East Asian market.
6:53 "Some kind of technicality"... like matching the description of the word. Yep indeed.
Also this means that veggie burger and tofu burger is a thing. Savoury does not mean meat, just salty or spicy rather than sweet.
Australia doesn’t see Northern Lights, we see Southern Lights aka Aurora Australis.
If a hamburger is the meat and bun and only the two together (because meat without the bun is not a hamburger) then Chicken in a bun is a Chicken Burger. Follow the logic Americans. And the English created the Sandwich not a bun, but bread.
