So how a team with massive fan base and skills, experience and money winning most important trophy in the sport changes anything. This series from cricinfo is going downhill from sometime.
I would say his keeping has reminded people what a top wicketkeeper can do more so than changed cricket. I say that not to knock the man! We had incredible keepers who couldnt bat. Then we had a swing towards picking a lesser keeper if he could bat. Well, kind of partially agree, but lets be honest here - nobody is going to be interested in knowing some obscure English club matches that may have probably really changed cricket. I think real defining moments would be the introduction of ODIs, T20s, safety equipment, DRS, power plays, technological aids, etc rather than any particular match or player.

1996 cricket world cup is the most unique world cup ever played among the 19 cricket world cups till date ( including 7 T20 world cups). Below are few facts : 1. Only world cup to be won by a co-host nation. Sri Lanka won final in Lahore and not on home soil 2. Only final in which both captains were left handed batsman 3. Only final match to be held in pakistan 4. Pakistan is the only country which hosted a world cup final without hosting a semi final match !!!! 5. Only final to have a century in a success full chase. Arvinda di silva scored 107. 6. Only time world cup trophy was handed over by head of a state. Benazir bhutto the then PM of Pakistan handed over the trophy to arjuna ranatunga. 7. 1996 world cup is the only tournament in which both finalists despite being in the same group never faced each other in earlier stages of the tournament. Australia did not go to sri lanka for its pool game due to security reasons and sri lanka was given 2 default points 8. Arvinda di silva is the most productive man of match player with 107 runs 3 wickets n 2 catches 9. Sanath jayasurya is the least productive all rounder to win player of series award 10. Only world cup final among the 4 final match appearances of Glen McGrath where he went wicketless 11. Only 50 over world cup match till date in which sri lanka beat Australia 12. Only World cup when India played at Eden Gardens Calcutta in 50 over world cup !!!! 13. Only 50 over world cup in which West indies lost a semi final match 14. 1996 was the last time West indies reached semi final stage in 50 over world cup 15. Ind vs Sri Lanka semi final, only test or odi in history which was awarded due to rioting crowd !! 16. Only World Cup in sub continent when India did not host the final match. 17. Only World Cup final in which Glen McGrath and Sharne warne went wicketless
I am a Pakistani and I naturally hate Gautam Gambhir for things he says on Twitter against Pakistan but as a cricket fan I always feel that he never received the appreciation he deserved for his role in the WC 2011 final. He came to bat at such a crucial moment and gave a very solid support to Indian innings but unfortunately nobody ever mentions his name. For me he was the true recipient of MOTM award because if you take out the 97 he scored in that high pressure game then the result could have been entirely different.
To clear things it is not about the final match and who scored more runs ... It is about how the final six that just changed he sport ... The time when over billion people screamed with their complete might. This happened because of Ms . He had 11 balls and only 4 runs to chase. He could have taken singles , doubles or even could have hit a four. He could have gone out. But he hit a massive six a high going six over long on into the stands. This six was a tribute to Tendulkar for his efforts and contribution. It was also that as I am the captain here I am giving you a world cup after 28 years with a massive ending. Thus he was the best that night. He was not the best player . I guess he will never be the best player of India but he is damn well the best captain. That man of the match was awarded to him because he scored the most runs but for defining captaincy to come in front and lead the game and also for cementing the victory with a massive six. This message is for those who thinks gambhir was more deserving. He might be the best player that match but MS was really the man who owned the moment that day,!😊
No doubt about MSD but Gambir was equally responsible for the successful chase. He absorbed pressure like no other and allowed Dholi to come in and settle down too.
I will not stand Gambhir slander. While Dhoni hit the winning runs, it was Gambhir who stabilized the innings after Sehwag and Tendulkar were dismissed early. He deserved the man of the match that day.

Everybody saying Gambhir deserves the MOTM Hear me out. He came in and stabilised the team from a falling innings. However the Required run rate also went up high. If gambhir had completed his century he would have surely gotten the MOTM. But MSD had a better strike rate and was Not out as well. The scores were quite similar too. Hence the MOTM went to Dhoni. Gambhir deserves as much credit for the run chase but Dhoni finished off a crucial game.
India's victory changed cricket, started the trend of home teams winning world cups. Which did not happen for 36 years. Turned home pressure to home advantage.
Gambhir and Dhoni’s contributions are equally important. People in the comment section want one reason to pull down Dhoni’s contribution. If Dhoni wouldn’t have finished the match that day, it would've been similar to what happened in 2019 Ind vs NZ semifinal. Despite Gambhir’s innings we would’ve lost the game. @@gauthamdm6477 yeah i'm the fan of dhoni but i also like Gambhir....and i have never been involved in the debate of dhoni vs gambhir...i know both of them have played a major role in the wc...Neither Dhoni begged for the credit of winning the wcs nor Gambhir is intrerested in taking credit. It's the media who have showed things like this.
@@anujmishra8766 and I was commenting on the media's usage of that same thing.
As a Sri Lankan this SIX was and still is painful to watch.. But honestly it was Gambir who laid the foundation and stabilized the innings for Dhoni to finish it off in style.
0:15 that should be 2. He also hit one in an Asia cup final
I think you missed on mentioning Gautam Gambhir's WC winning inning... Which provided time for Dhoni to set up his inning...
Dhoni- not a man, but an emotion
So they completely ignored Gambhir!
Now this is getting ridiculous.First Tendulkar's retirement and Dhoni's Six.Both has nothing to do with change in cricket.
Hussain THANK YOU!!!
Ya it changed... because of his leadership decisions that made worldcup win possible. I understand why are u saying that... he is a master of win and probably only asian captain who won every icc cup...
And about sachin retirement...i request you to watch his 100 100s...
If that is your argument, then every game, every captain, every 100 scored by anyone has been a little significant in the way the game has changed.
@@arijitpritamzoro His Leadership skills were already established. and it wasn't a last ball six that could have changed the game. Tendulkar's career has changed cricket, his retirement has nothing to do with the game.
@@salmanshaik4014 how many captain are there who won t20 in his debut captaincy, champions trophy and worldcup ..i hope only one aussie and this six changed cricket because only he had guts to that..not even virat can do .
DHONI BEST LEGEND
What about Gambhir???
That world cup win was a team effort especially by Gautam Gambhir... But that world cup winning six, just took my heart 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Those are saying that only 60 odd runs were left when dhoni arrived, you are wrong. Dhoni made 91 runs and yuvraj made 21, which means that there were 120 odd runs left. A batting collapse happens and the team can easily lose the match from this situation
Its strange you didn't licensed that video, which your whole segment covers.
Why 6 sixers of Yuvi are not the part of 25 moments that changed cricket
Those guys who r blabbing that gambir was absorbing pressure by playing more balls and scoring slowly, then y are they scolding the current dhoni...he is too absorbing pressure.... chutiye indians yaar
The best moment in Cricketing history. Hands down! No discussion there.
when gambir got out india reqd 50-60 odd runs we all know how indian players are under pressure easily it would have gone to a batting collapse.but dhoni stayed till the job is done that is why he was given the man of the match ,never the less gambir contribution was vital in winning the match even dhoni acknowledged that in presentation
Cricinfo - These videos make no sense to me. The instances sure are worth mentioning but you need to explain how did the event changed cricket.
Gambhir is not even mentioned. I don't know what to say.
You have not mentioned gautam gambhir, who has a very large contribution to world cup 2011
Gautam Gambhir made more runs than Dhoni and his foundation was important.
@@jnmenterprises1191 Yup That right, unsung hero of Indian cricket
@@jnmenterprises1191 gambihir made 97 runs off 123 balls he took a lot of balls compared to dhoni who made 91 runs of 79 balls so who deserves the credit guys ? The person who scored 6 more runs in 44 balls?
India 🇮🇳🥰
Goosebumps
Gambhir........ The unsung hero
One of the greatest moment of an Indian cricket fan's life.
This whole series is rigged beacuse most of the videos are on India and some of these moments never really impacted cricket in the way this series of videos puts it.
Dear ladies and gentlemen, this man has spoken the truth.
Exactly
I watched the video, enjoyed it, but at the end found myself wondering how cricket was changed by the event...
You know what I think of all the 5 guys who have already replied? They don't like it when the spotlight is not on them. Of the 19 videos till now; only 4 videos mention Indians that's it and there 7 videos describing Australia and their plays and players which changed cricket and I wonder how most of the videos are on India? Doubt me go and check.
And know what even the next 6 videos don't have anything related to india.
1996 cricket world cup is the most unique world cup ever played among the 19 cricket world cups till date ( including 7 T20 world cups). Below are few facts :
1. Only world cup to be won by a co-host nation. Sri Lanka won final in Lahore and not on home soil
2. Only final in which both captains were left handed batsman
3. Only final match to be held in pakistan
Australia did not go to sri lanka for its pool game due to security reasons and sri lanka was given 2 default points
8. Arvinda di silva is the most productive man of match player with 107 runs 3 wickets n 2 catches
9. Sanath jayasurya is the least productive all rounder to win player of series award
10. Only world cup final among the 4 final match appearances of Glen McGrath where he went wicketless
11. Only 50 over world cup match till date in which sri lanka beat Australia
12. Only World cup when India played at Eden Gardens Calcutta in 50 over world cup !!!!
13. Only 50 over world cup in which West indies lost a semi final match
14. 1996 was the last time West indies reached semi final stage in 50 over world cup
I love Ms dhoni
He might be the best player that match but MS was really the man who owned the moment that day,!😊
It didn't change world cricket, it changed Indian cricket and explain the impact in the videos too.
No doubt Dhoni is greatest ... Bt credit also goes to 2007 wrld cup Gabhir's 59 run innings n 97 in 2011. How one can forget dat.
MSD The G.O.A.T
They didn't even show the actual footage... Just some shitty high-school level animation
Maahi way..my hero my inspiration
The way U guys present these videos is marvelous........ Keep it up🙌
it's so amazing to see that how india has changed cricket totally... they have changed icc... and changed cricinfo too ...
I m big fan of msd and he is always best but to be honest gambhir was main player who help India while they lost their best openers early
Only if he scored 3 more runs at least.Tells you the massive difference in impact between a 97 and a hundred.
Most greatest six of all time.

Dhoni is over rated hero of WC2011 final.
Gautam Gambhir is real hero of 2007 T20 Wc and 2011 WC performed when team is in trouble. Respect to Gambhir
Mahi best in world ❤
Come on guys, it's Cricket "a Team Sport" we are not here to judge any single player, all they fought for Country and never Forget "Dhoni was a Key in all the Victories" ❤️❤️❤️ #LoveMSDforever ❤️❤️❤️
And everyone saying that Gambhir was only the reason we won the world cup Dhoni didn't just score 10or 20 runs and he hit the last six he also scored 91 runs
Where is gauti
I never hated dhoni as captain he had respect for his team
Everybody saying Gambhir deserves the MOTM
Hear me out.
How many of you came after MSD Retirement news 😢 ?
Where is that dhoni now ?
Dhoni now is not the same we have seen before. Everyone will love to see the old dhoni back.
India's victory changed cricket, started the trend of home teams winning world cups. Which did not happen for 36 years. Turned home pressure to home advantage.
Man responsible for finals Gambhir and MSD. both are fab players.
DHONI MOM 91 OFF JUST 79 BALLS TOOK THE GAME AWAY FROM LANKA, MATCH DEFINING INNINGS
Gambhir build the foundation but Dhoni completed the task.
Dhoni was more wicketkeeper contribution also
Okay. Dhoni is worthy of lifting Thor's hammer. But how the fuck did this change cricket? Like how?
Saw team struggling against holland.
Later came to know the love for colour of thier jersey in India
The moment we will never forget. Dhoni played great but I think gambhir has not got his deserved recognition. He was the Wall for India in both world cup victories
Dhoni is retired😢 that six will never be forgotten
