Years ago I read an article. (Back when articles were on paper) and it was talking about trends in cosmetic surgery. What was interesting was they noticed that “career women” invested in facelifts. Whereas “housewives” got boob jobs. They said that they noticed that women in the workforce invested in looking youthful so they could compete with younger colleagues. The article said housewives invested in breast implants and liposuction because they would need to attract a man for marriage if the were to be divorced or widowed.
This video made me think about that. If a woman is able to attract a desirable mate or a woman is able to get a job she is qualified for, then I guess there are long term returns on “beauty”. However, like with any investments, one needs to diversify. For example, while healing from that surgery take some CEUs or work on conversation starters so you may increase your options for finding mates.

The concept of beauty is just too vast to actually try to achieve “it.” Wtf is “it” even? F that. You get what you see. I think the comments holding onto "beauty is a good investment-just shouldnt be the only investment" miss the fact that beauty is inherently a Depreciating Asset. Thats why its a bad investment.
Its also SO fluid. Sure- clear skin healthy hair and straight clean teeth are seen as the bare marker for respectability. But beauty in the context of strong social currency is only valuable for thise who have Time and Money (which buys the time tbh).
Also worth noting that im busted and working class. But I still have make up that I bust out when I travel and clothes that I wear every once in a while when i go out. I participate in the politics of beauty (poorly!), but i recognize that major investment in my looks is also a major gamble since I have a lot more to lose if it doesnt work out.

Get an education and a career as a fallback, but consistently level up your beauty as high as you can. However if you can only level up to a 5 you better stay in school and become a surgeon or something..... Men feel that if they are working hard to provide they should wake up to a pretty face next to them in the morning. You need to inspire a man to work hard for you and provide. Of course there are other societal standards that shift and change over time like having a big butt or boobs. But it's scientifically proven that engaging in healthy habits, like exercising, eating healthy, keeping your stress levels low, getting a good amount of sleep, and not using a significant amount of drugs all make people objectively more attractive to others.
Of course there are people that engage in only healthy habits like diet and exercise that aren't considered beautiful by society. But for the most part, the actions that will be the most likely to make you more attractive into old age are also the ones that keep you healthy.
I think it comes down to your definition of beauty. Mine is long term on the scale of decades and therefore is closely tied to health. If yours isn't, then that's okay. The external is investing in beauty to gain that fleeting social power, whereas the internal is investing in beauty to express one's own style and taste. Happiness always makes women more attractive.

However, it wasn’t until the height of the pandemic, that I realized how therapeutic my skincare routine really was. I felt this instance sense of calm in the middle of chaos. Once I started adding in weekly diy manuka honey and aloe Vera masks to reduce my acne scars, it began feeling like I a mini spa day. I think your point is clear *but* you have to admit that wording it as beauty is a "bad" investment instead of saying what you said in this video --that it has limiting social currency and shouldn't be what anyone bases their whole life on is far better wording. But the problem I still see is that (I think) that video came out when you were feuding with the feminity ladies and so it can come off as a dishonest rebutle to an argument they never made (and one I don't think really anyone makes). Most people who talk about investing in beauty also talk about charm, charisma, improving social skills, becoming more cultured, etc. in order to elevate one's self.
Also, of all the investments one can make beauty remains of the most important. Is there a better investment in terms of social currency? Not really. Several studies show beauty/attractiveness being one of the main reasons people get ahead in life.

My motto: Beauty gets you in the door, brains and character keep you there.
It’s like buying a house. Some people will buy the house and live in it forever, take care of it, renovate it, pass it on to their children, etc
The smarter ones will use it as a stepping stone to eventually buy other properties. Turning it into more than just a place to rest and reproduce.
The most tragic people are the beautiful ones who DON’T use it AT ALL‼️
