- Simply, some of the best, most historic rail film I've ever seen. Shot in the 1950s, this remarkable 16mm film was found in an abandoned garage following a housefire, in Sydney's West. Mostly Kodachrome colour, it shows scenes of 20 class, 30 class and even a 41 class diesel on the old Camden line, closed on the 1st January, 1963. Discovered, in recent years, to have been shot by the late Bob Wiley, one time manager of the NSW Railway archives.
That's a cracking find, a real gem.
That was brillant. Thank you.
awesome
How fortunate we are that the film was made all those years ago and then later salvaged from an abandoned garage after a house fire.
A cracking bit of History, i believe the Dairy at Camden is about all that is left
Roughly where Camden's goods shed once stood is now the local Maccas.
Brilliant find.
I remember the line well and always get a surprise when I see the closure date. If asked I would have guessed a couple of years later.
Extraordinary. :-)
Fantastic look at what once was in this area. It's amazing how much modern day growth and progress has taken over large parts of the background in this clip.
Reminds me of the Titfield Thunderbolt film :-)
Very nice thanks.
I know where the line went . it is a shame . NOW.
What a find. Treasure it.
Were CPHs used in the later years?
No they weren't but the notoriously unreliable British 41 class diesels were. They were SO bad that it shut British locomotive manufacturers out of NSW Railways in the diesel age and American Alcos and GM reigned supreme.
An historical gem and significant piece of rail corridor infrastructure that should have never been closed
unfortunately it had to be due to it being unsustainable economically but it's fascinating to imagine what could be today if it hadn't closed.
