I understand suspension of disbelief for the sake of diversity, inventing travelling merchants or foreign emissaries to justify a multicultural cast, but in this period I'm expected to believe a black man grew up in England and was appointed to a senior ecclesiastical position as an abbot? This is truly awful.... Not only Sean Beans worst performance eve, but a very lame adaption of an excellent book with a cast of misfits who are not up to scratch. If this is the future of British drama.. anyone can be an actor, even if they'd be better placed as a launderette assistant. This series is embarrassing to watch.
