This week we continue Project Jigsaw, our 1960's inspired supercar project based on a Porsche Boxster. We begin fabricating a front fender out of aluminum, and then install the radiator fan after making the shroud.
Come along as Tony and Ryan problem-solve the complex engineering behind this project, and take jabs at each other all along the way!

So are you admitting you have hair loss Tony and Keeps is how you keep it looking young and supple?
What a timing; my gf just broke up with me. This series and especially you guys make me so happy. This made my day a lot better even with the given circumstances. Thank you guys and love from Belgium and from me.❤❤❤
The best part about losing a GF is you get to audition new ones!
The best way to get over one is to get under another! Hawk teh!
If anything pin this lads comment and get him likes make his day better

Sorry to hear about that bud. Hope things go better for you!
Love this series. Regarding the fan shroud... any thoughts to adding a round flange to capture the edge of the fan blades? That will create a draw path from the radiator core and increase the efficiency of the fan and the ridgity of the shroud. Cheers.
The straight line sheet metal cutter you were using was invented be Al Swink. He also invented the car wash after WW2 using B-17 supercharger motors to blow the cars dry. He went on to become the Mayor of Santa Monica, Ca.
Cool!
i cant find anybody named al swink, the closed is a guy named albert swink that i found on a retirement home wepsite, plus the car wash was invented in 1900 as a patent by Frank McCormick and J.W. Hinkle. so to me it seems your spreading misinformation
plus the closest mayor of santa monica, ca name wise, is donna swink
Ohhh, you’re early today. What a trickster you are.
Heheheh
I am absolutely loving this build! Sending support from Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺
For the shroud, this is a system that should get a lot of ram air, so I'd include check gates in the fan shroud so air can get out through it. NAPP makes one for Miatas, you can look at that for reference. It's quite simple, it just takes some rectangular holes and oversized rubber flaps. Much like oil pan baffles with one-way gates.
I think they mentioned they were going to build in some gates like that for the same reason. Not sure how they're planning to do it, so using an aftermarket part as reference might be useful for them
You're right, that fender really does impact the look a lot, it's looking more and more glorious with each panel you fabricate. I know it's still early to talk finish but, I really can't wait to see it all painted and shined, it's gonna be incredible!
TJ Hunt needs you to help fix the RH rear quarter of his 997 GT3
It looks so good withouit a fender flare. Just like a 60's car.
Not likely functional given the huge gap but having a ring around that fan would look tough and add some character.
It's steel it'll be easy to weld ;)
Thanks for another great video
Just casually drop two seconds of that 914 into the b-roll........that's fine, nobody wants to see more than that........everything is fine.
Lovely work chaps.
VERY VERY much enjoy the detail and the banter.
I love watching this puzzle come together. Well done boys, keep it up!
Merging the sponsor add with the actual build is just plain evil genius moves.....no skipping ahead....touche.
During the charades segment I just yelled jackal at the top of my lungs repeatedly. Was I correct?
Can't argue with that hahaha
It wasn't right the first time you said it, why the hell would it be right the next ten times?!
Hello good day to you hope you are having a great day.. my name is precious I am from Nigeria I have been watching your videos on Facebook and UA-cam am a big fan of ur work. Your work has been a big inspiration to me I wish I could be ur apprentice. It's will be my dream come true.. May God bless you@@CrucibleCoachworks
That fender gap looks perfect. This build and the metal skills are really something to look forward to with every episode.
Thank you!
The metal work was the perfect inspiration to get started on my projects today! Thank you for the video.
Rock on!
solution, get a CNC water cutter instead. can actually handle relative thick steel to. and no edges, smooth as a babys behind. also dont you need a tunnel for that fan? think it enhances the amount of air it pulls
I'm always bummed when it ends and I have to wait an entire week to see it again... But its great! Doing the lords work indeed!!
as was probably said already ,go minimalist with the flare as it already looks great and just needs a lip any modern flare look on this would be horrifying
Jay! In time so I get to see my dauther play football (soccer for overseas)! The eye winking elfer on the background 🤩🤩
Love this build greetings from Sweden.
Thx for the metrics
Another great video 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love how Tony loses half of his hair halfway through the video that was sponsored by keeps 😂 (although due to a haircut)
Hahahahaha good catch!
Need four cut outs in in the corners of shroud !
Graphics department working overtime on those primo fan shroud diagrams! 👌🏻👌🏻
Another Banger, and to put some personal anecdotes with Keeps, I can say that even after I had to stop my year of a subscription for financial reasons, I haven't lost much more hair, even 3 years after I last used it and I'm 40.
No shit, I'm excited about every new video in this series! Doing a project like this someday is a dream for me and I love watching you guys make it happen! Btw. the engines backstory got my girlfriend crying haha that's about as much of a heart a car can have :)
I went on a special trip today to get Inkzall markers that I saw on here as I have been using Sharpies on my aluminium car project and they just keep dying trying to mark it.
yessir
I know it takes time to work on a side project. But I’m so stoked to see that fender take shape. I hope it’s very close to the rendering. Learned something too, when wheeling realized I’ve experienced shape bleed and had zero clue what was going on. Now I’ll watch for that. Thanks fellas.
If something bothers me on the car channels. It's when you start a project and it doesn't end. I haven't heard about the Porsche 928 for months. I'm a big fan of that car. , a platonic love since I saw it in Tom Cruise's film Risky Business, it was my first scale gift car and I saw every step that was taken on the channel. Now I see this project that is going very well but I feel a certain lack of love because the 928 continues without moving forward. Don't leave the project stranded
Hey the British pronunciation of Aluminium sounds like a the medical term for a neck injury!
I prefer the American pronunciation!
For me it accentuates the dynamic it has!
Neat work, guys!
Regarding the joint between the side and top of the fender, along the wire framework--I suggest making that radius as large as possible so that it doesn't even read as a corner. Rather, like one big continuous curve.
I think there’s too much body above the wheel. The fender should be low and sleek and hug the wheel. Look at a GT40. I’m talking about the body and not the gap between the wheel and fender.
Even though that fan is moving a lot of air I reckon you need a shroud/short duct around it to separate the air from being pulled radially from beside the fan instead of through the rad. (IMHO)
Haha wheel gap is never coming back and should be the only thing you deviate from the 60s look. 😉
It's coming together really enjoy the channel and the content look forward to watching every Saturday never miss a episode peace out 😊
guessing this is going to get painted... not exactly DeLorean metalworking ;)
Always Great work. Love the Ducting and shrouding
I'm glad I subscribed a few weeks back. This is shaping up to be pretty cool.
I went away quickly to do the pounds to kg conversion, then came back to hear it. 😂👌🏼
You should make another clay model of the car, and "accidentally" knock it onto the ground....
That fender is looking great. I still wonder if the exit for the cooled air is large enough? I know you guys have a plan. See you next week.
Curious if you’ll template off the panel you just did with your tape method to transfer to the other side. Nice progress this week!
I never cease to be amazed by the insane levels of skills you both have! I’d happily sit and watch a 2 hour video
Aluminium cuts alot nicer on a plasmatable if you hook up a nitrogenbottle instead of compressed air. Run it at 8 bars
Great work! Also, I want the “What the Fuch” shirt!
The big fan is necessary these things always overheated im not sure if it was all the fault of the car though as much as the woman that used to drive them alot 😂
what are your plans on the doords tho? are you gonna use the origional boxter door and modify or are you going to make one yourself?
It's coming along great I can't wait to see the finished job. 🎉
Ryan definitely puts the fun in dysfunctionality.
The nose at the lights looks really weird. The intake is way too small.
I've watched a lot of custom car shop videos and your skills and craftsmanship leave most of them in the dust. Great work! Subscribed.
That shirt is sick "what the fuch"
It’s my new favorite. 😂👍🏻
1st
Nice work, the front is coming together 2x👍
Loving this, well done chaps!
Maybe you will meet the “hawk tuah” girl
You will continue to have cooling problems because you do not have a thermostat that also reduces flow to allow rear cylinders to stay at an even temp throughout the engine
The electric water pump is designed to be used without a thermostat. It adjusts flow by slowing down or speeding up the pump to regulate temperature.
I'm not sure why you said you can't plasma aluminum, you totally can. I've done a bunch of cnc plasma cut aluminum and it usually works great. I've built more than one fan shroud that way.
I’ve had bad luck with it coming out clean, maybe we need to revisit that soon. 👍🏻
@@CrucibleCoachworks I'm sure there are a million variables that could make your experience and mine differ. I just know I've had great luck with it. If you haven't that's totally valid, but I bet you'll be happy if you find some settings that work for you.
Worst music for this episode 👎
This build is awesome
Thanks for sharing
Where is the Porsche?
TOO MANY ADS.....
Fan go brrr
You can plasma cut aluminium...
yes,and it comes out ratty..........this is a proof of concept like they said and its faster and easier with steel
Yeah, numpty me commented too early. Sorry.
I've plasma cut a bunch of aluminium, and it's surprising how many people think plasma cutters don't work at all on aluminium.
I should have kept my mouth shut until later in video.
42 episode's in , it's starting to look like Ryan will be Tony's age by the time it's done 😂
I just do not understand your mentality. Driving a car that has barely welded panels is plain dumb. You are throwing all kinds of c rap all over the car, which you then need to clean off before you can weld it. Makes no sense. On tap of that , there is a distinct lack of forward planning, which can ultimately bite you in the ass down the line. Surely you should build the systems for the car and prove they work , before building a body, otherwise you are likely going to have issues down the line. There are great build series out there, see Brough Builds, Fanatik or project pinky, for a methodical approach. Of course this is your project, so you can do what you like, but you often come across as hapless people with no forethought whatsoever
Life is too short. You must enjoy yourself along the way. And I tend to overthink, not lacking in forethought. -Tony
Hey Dude where’s your safety glasses??? Are you kidding me.
Old saying: The next guy is going to do his work exactly as the idiot before TAUGHT him-
Sorry, no disrespect- you’re a talented metal guy, but ZERO TOLERANCE for ignoring “BLIND-EYED BILLY”, the guy with the eye patch in the corner. WE ALL KNOW ABOUT EYE INJURIES!
Glasses are CHEAP- Growing a new eye is IMPOSSIBLE.
So many builders use fiberglass and carbon fiber for their body panels. Why are you going with handmade sheet metal?
Because they can😉
