Ohhhhhh!!! We got KD over here!
literally a scene from angry boys

So he's shit

But I would still carry toilet paper or wipes with me nonetheless.
probably pooped out a pebble
Where would you toss them?
you're already tossing human feces into the wild i dont think some tissue paper litter will hurt much more
Still training and living for 10 yrs in iten Kenya take a lot of conviction and sacrifices. Kudos to them
THIS AINT STRAVA HOMES
They actually don't have that bad of a lifestyle if you think of it.
Train, Eat, relax, fly of for races around the world
Very cheap and stress free.
This is insane. I went to school with these two. Hamilton Boys High School. This is crazy. Now a decade later I am watching them here :D
Did they use to take a shit in the bush?
i go to hamilton boys now
must feel like shit now
I live in England and my mate who moved from NZ went there!
wait, you knew them too?
i was in HBHS then too...
it's crazy, right?
i'm low key jealous, but hella proud
Jake broke Rod Dixon's national record in the marathon (2:09 flat from the NYC Marathon 1983) yesterday, 3/4/18, with a 2:08:20 in Japan. These guys are epic.
I love this so much. It is so frustrating when black athletes are always put down to being genetic freaks. No one ever considers that these guys also train harder and faster than anyone else in the world.
I doubt they train harder than people in billion dollar facilities. It's genetics. Blacks are athletes and whites are scholars. Get over it
What a ridiculous comment. Blacks can be scholars and whites can be athletes.
@@anncokafor He's talking about in general though, not that it's true for every person individually.
I'm Kenyan and i can tell you, the Kalenjin tribe has a genetic advantage as most champions come from their tribe in Kenya.

I went to school with Jake and Zane Robertson. W wen't to Hamilton West Primary, Then Peachgrove Intermediate and finally Hamilton Boys' High School. They are still their authentic selves. Another incredible documentary piece from VICE Sports. Selema Masakela is an outstanding host. And this is a compelling story, like all of VICE's work. Thanks so much for this glimpse into the amazing world of Kenyan running, its ethos, and the Kiwi twins' place in it. Wow.
This is real commitment. As somebody from East Africa, I can imagine this is a real downgrade in standard of living for them. I really have respect for these twins
😳🤦🏾♀️
Bro delete this comment.
No one says as someone from east Africa if you are really from east Africa...
I have nothing against either of these brothers based on what we see here, and I understand that they were the focus of this story. But the Kenyan runners are each individual athletes with their own ambitions, struggles, and stories - they aren't some national monolith to defeat. It would have been nice to at least have heard a few of their actual names.
Oh, and Ethiopia. Let's not forget about them.
They are forgotten
honestly the entire “horn” like Ethiopia Somalia Kenya, all have good runners, but two of the top cannot at all have money for sports

I love the Robertson Twins - my family are originally from Mauritius near South Africa - my Dad's heritage and his family can relate to this, I love Mauritius very much, wish I trained in running when I was younger. I love watching this, brings back memories of the basic living conditions and the love of sports.
You always have the most interesting documentaries, Vice.
It stops for nothing? It should stop to wipe
if you're really good at running even your poops are efficient
Nah man it’s a run, give it a good wash later
There's a good chance they simply didn't film it or they edited it out.
If you are on an important training run, you need to do your business and then go. Plus, you kind of just shoot it out, and you are in the natural pooping position, so there really isn't much to wipe.
i've heard of some gruesome stories of people having to shit during ultras or triathalons

Hell of a way to end the video....Truly hardcore runners!
the irony of this is The twins are from a country that dominates rugby as much as the Kenyans dominate long distance running
Kenya kinda tries in rugby too. Check out their Sevens teams. Also, they have the most epic fanbase. If you wanna have a lot of fun in a rugby game that Kenyans are involved, seat with the Kenyans, you'll love it.
We have middle and long distance running pedigree too.
Hwo tf is that ironic
Caught doping then he blames Kenya lol
Lul
Kenyans use the most gear. That is why they the fastest. You want to cope at that speed then you also need to dope.
nz distance running has a long history as an aussie I'm very proud of them and a very thumbs up to the following kiwi runners peter snell, john walker, derek Froude , rod Dixon etc.
What those guys have done in the sport is incredible. I've lived and trained with some of the worlds' top runners. They are a big reason I was able to run 2:19:35 for the marathon. It is a mindset you have to have in order to compete at the higher levels. Jake and Zane are FAR better than I ever was but it really all just comes down to how badly do you really want it. Eric Thomas said it best "When you was to succeed as badly as you want to breathe...then you will be successful".
DON'T FORGET MY BELOVED❤ ETHIOPIA ❤ and no one can defeat Ethiopian runner and Kenyon❤
True 🇰🇪🥰
Jake and Zane are very smart and dedicated. To be the best you train with the best. 9:03 This is summary of this video.
Absolutely brilliant that's effort well done
Awesome video thanks!
It's very generous of the team to accept the kiwis into their fold.
That town has become a mecca for runners from all over the world, so those folks are used to being around foreigners. There are several training camps in and around the town of Iten catering to runners from as far as China, America and Europe.
Bummed we didn't learn more about their day to day living. ie how do they make money and pay for their living? how does they visa allow such an extended stay? do they speak the language? are they actually being coached and/or are they under a shoe deal to where they're being put into different races? Great idea and story opportunity, but I think it caters to such generalities it doesn't answer questions that runners want to know. Also would've liked to know their events and times- In my experience, to talk to run novices (likely the audience of this thing) you need to say, "They're running that last lap at a 4:50/mile, and so you know, the world record for the mile is 3:40 and change, so they're flying...", etc. But all in all fascinating story.
here's a more in depth one. ua-cam.com/video/w9lTJNSvUNE/v-deo.html
Gordon Leigh Clark the official language of Kenya is English....there are tribal languages in existence but most Kenyans (at least that matter with reference to this video) speak English.
MC Productions Swahili?
BobTheDrilla Official language is Swahili and English. Any Kenyan who went to school learned English. However, unless a Kenyan is in the business world or work force, English is almost a third language to most in up country as one would mostly speak their mother tongue then Swahili. English is spoken as needed based. Like now the people who live where these 2 boys are might only need to speak English while communicating with them but use local language to communicate with locals.

Visit Kenya, experience of a life time
Hello sir I'm from India I want to come Kenya help me sir
Kids in the beginning already have perfect running form
Tu meke boys!! Represent!! Fantastic Doco
When I was young, I was ignorant enough to think that it was simply the "Kenyan lifestyle" that made them so fast, as though everyone there was fast just to survive. I obviously learned to not be so ignorant, but I remember a guy who taught me it was their training and work ethic that made them so good and told me a story of how his freshman year at LSU he ran with a Kenyan and was getting destroyed and how much of a wake up call it was.
Kenya is too big and diverse in everything. You can't just judge the who country or continent based on a small village in high altitudes with runners.
RUNNERS : The body shuts down before the mind want's to keep going "
You sound like you don’t know what you’re talking about.
@@e-towncoz9897 Just because you don’t like what was said doesn’t mean it’s true. When I was training for marathons, I got shin splints, hamstring pulls, and many lower body ailments. Some of those injuries were so bad that even though I was hurt on those 15+ mile training runs, I ignored my body, and let my mind take over. Because of it, I was barely walking. My body caved in well before mind would. I was too stubborn to stop.

So much aggression and drama, you'd think running would center them...really strange to see a long distance runner with such raging tantrums...

I think altitude has a lot to do with it as well. But I really admire their determination...
The ending is a bomb. :)
The crazy thing is that the best distance runners aren't from all over Kenya. They're all from one town in Kenya. It's like saying the best basketball players in the world only come one town in one state in the U.S
exactly. You train with the best....
Nah!! You do not know what you are saying, david rudisha, yobes Ondieki, douglas Wakihuri, paul ngugi, Andrew Kimanthi, the list is endless, these athletes come from different parts of Kenya, that picture your are painting of one town is very oriental, they could go to train in Iten because of brother Colm and the legacy he has built there but, they come from different parts of the country. I guess you are the rationalist who believe in culture than practice.
@@deanking6105 thankyou!!!!most runners in Kenya come from different places we have big stars like omanyala and Moraa coming from different parts of kenya

Hard work people. Altitude advantage yes but it aint genetics. Its called HARD WORK.
Yes it is genetics, no it’s not high altitude, it’s the opposite.
Just delete your comments moment you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about
Genetics + hard work = world dominance. Hard work = good results, but not always world dominance or even close to it..... These twins have been training 10 years with the best of the best, and still aren't close to beating the people they train with. They will break plenty of NZ records though and do better than most for the hard work they're putting in. Genetics = key. The heat radiating and energy saving properties of the Kenya people is real.
Yeah Baby, we the best in the world
It blows my mind that more people haven't done this for training.
Most people wouldn’t dive from the clouds if they couldn’t see water at the bottom. Takes some guts...

I was in Portland Ore for the Cascade Runoff, a 15km race.
I was born in Cork City Ireland (mother/baby home) and at 3 some great parents n family took me into California where I was raised.
The day before the race as I was crossing a street, a Kenyan asked me the start time.
After I told him, I asked him how he knew I was in the race (dressed in street clothes...naked and a spear)....he looks at me and says "come on man, one runner knows another!"
And thats why
