Witch bolt, when cast at 9th Lvl., on a hit it deals 9d12 lightning damage to a single target. For a minute, you can automatically deal 9d12 lightning damage to that target on each of your turns. If strung out to its full 1 minute concentration time, you can deal 90d12 lightning damage to a single target. It's probably the best choice for an upcasted Lvl. 1 spell.
"This skull hasn't been properly damned! You can't just install these wherever you want!" That's totally what a devil would say! You know that they must have a billion laws concerning infernal construction.
The devils don't actually obey those laws, they just put up a façade of having done so. Then they trick other devils into slipping up, and then use those slip ups to blackmail each other.
I've listened to several of these videos, maybe a dozen or two. really easy to listen to and laugh along with. You two have great chemistry for a podcast. great work.
You guys need to check out Doomed Forgotten Reams: Rise of Vecna. Where Vecna has taken over the sword coast in a bid for greater godhood. It seamlessly ties together the ongoing apocalyptical disasters featured in the 5e campaigns from Tiamat's rise to the breaking of the Ordening to Acererak's Death Curse. Fantastic story telling
Were y'all tracking the 2nd Ed Planescape module Fires of Dis? It's a really cool adventure where Dispater let's you into that tower, and it has a lot of info on the layer.
I *think* I will go to your guys' patreon after my next check, cause your lore content is perfect especially for me. I've never played (but I want to *so* bad) so it's nice that you have the dynamic of someone who doesn't know about this thing, and someone who understands it well. It helps make the lore feel less intimidating
I would think it would be easier to get into the Tower of Dis for low-level parties, because they wouldn't be able to touch the devils there combat-wise.
Honest question for your next video. Can you explain why and how the archdukes of the Nine hells are not overpowered by the gods and goddesses that resides in the plane. The way they explain it is that devils are both less powerful and more powerful than gods and i don't get how the hierarchy could ever work. How do the archdukes of hell maintain their seat of power facing gods. Continue your great videos. Always interesting and fun to watch you guys.
For the lvl spell question: armor of Agathas At 9th lvl it gives you 45hp and everytime something hits you it takes 45dmg Absolutely melts anything that dosent do more then 45 dmg in one hit.
Isn’t it obvious when magic missile buffed to level 9 would be more useful than a normal level 9 spell? Well let’s say the very common situation of Asmodeus challenging Jazirian to complete their goals. To prevent the destruction of their planes, they choose a contest of champions… cooking… obviously. So your level 20 wizard or sorcerer is chosen to face off against the greatest chef in the nine hells. So the two of you are placed in a 40 square foot ring where there is everything you’d need to cook. Neither of you is allowed to cast spells normally… because obviously this is a cooking competition not a magic one. However they come to an agreement that evocation spells are allowed. This is just in case one of you accidentally burns yourself a healing spell can be cast… duh. But only one spell can be used during the match. They however fail to specify which evocation spell you are able to use… as greater deities as likely to do. They do however say anyone who does not finish their meal in time will be wiped from existence. So the two of you face off and neither is allowed in the others section. The match starts… you work hard on your owl bear stakes and vampire apple pie with beholder eyescream, but it’s clear your devilish opponent knew before hand that Jazirian really likes lizard folk roast stew. And his stuffed demigorgon will really put him over the top. However you notice with a high perception roll, that your opponent has a weird quirk of lining all his items up on the edge of the counter, to confirm he has completed the previous steps. He is laying out his 4 bowls of roast stew, the pot boiling his demigorgon, and the 6 glasses of elder lich martinis on the edge of the table. Your telling me you would not 9th level magic missile every item off the counter, guaranteeing the victory, but instead use meteor swarm and destroy your perfected meal as well? Obviously magic missile is the only option… can’t believe you didn’t know
Honestly, I think Brian hit the nail on the head about Dis' armor: it's biggest power is the power of rumor. The armor is not physical, but rather something he has spent the last few eons crafting from rumor and reputation. There might be an actual suit of armor somewhere, but there is nothing special about it; the reputation of the armor being so powerful is enough to deter most assailants, and even other Archdukes tie up valuable resources trying to determine the supposed powers of the armor...
I mentioned crit role in the last vid, but they went to Dis in campaign 1 to kill a rakshasa. It was a good way to do it, but the dm hand waved shit a little bit.
@@Thedungeoncast I couldn't find much about Miska's personality other than that he's "cruel and chaotic, but the Rod gave him an yearning for neatness" so his episode would be more about his role in the war rather than him as a demonlord/character. I'd personally like to play his literal wolf-spider thing, make him a hunter like spiders and wolves are, wolf spiders (the animals) hunt their prey directly rather than relying on webs
Late to the party as always. Weird is a not very good 9th level spell. By the time you cast it most creatures are inmune to fear, even if they arent, it requires 2 failed saves to even begin doing damage. I would rather cast mental prison on 1 creature than cast weird at all. And several 1st level spells, if upcast are going to be WAY more reliable than this... even if the target saves.
Imp: M'lord Dis is under attack.
Dis: me, my Lair, or my city?
Imp: yes.
Dis: *kills imp* smart-ass
Lol Brian I like the way you think my man. Level 9 Magic Missile never misses. it's basically an auto-turret machine gun.
I guess if its a must break a con check
The Nine Hells have some of my favorite lore in all of D&D, the Archdukes in particular :)
I’m super excited for the year of the fiend!
@@71Bim115 Same here!

this name brings back memories of absolutely absurd crits
Level 1 armor of Agathys on a bear totem barbarian potentially does an enourmous amount of damage but should do at least 90
For the lvl spell question: armor of Agathas

These videos make me want to try D&D. Wouldnt even know where to begin though lol

Are you planning on doing an episode on Miska or Obox-ob?
Eventually

The latest Matrix is actually pretty good.
