Best prediction ever: "This car's pinup poster will decorate boy's bedrooms for years to come." 20-30 years after the fact? Not too many cars accomplished that.

Some years back by sheer luck and being in the right place at the right time i got a ride in a Ferrari F40 red on the street and some interstate
So let me give a review of my 15 minutes or so in this bad boy as a passenger.
And this car this machine is a very very bad boy.
I think back when it first came out the advertized 0 to 60 was 3.2 seconds
I used to have a 1988 Mustang 5 liter 5 speed coup with no AC no leather no power windows no cruise control.
    Bought it new like that.
With a good launch maybe I got 6 seconds out of it to 60.
So the Mustang had some good snap to it. but I never liked the gearing that much
First gear was for launch only Second gear was the speed gear Third gear was the final gear thru 60.Fourth and Fith gears were dead. The car had 300 Lbs of torque.
I,m telling you this because if you think your 4 5 or 6 second car is fast well good for you and have fun with it.
    Back to the F40.
Getting in was fairly easy. The bucket seat was comfortable
The view out the windshield was ROAD.
My first impression of the interior was KIT CAR.You got your 3 gauges on the dash and thats about it.
The car was very quiet inside.Remember there are no exhaust pipes under your ass
So we get underway and then you here the faint whine of the turbo behind your right ear.
And this is all you here .You dont here no exhaust noise. All you here are the twin turbos behind your back.
In fact i dont remember hardly any engine noise.Just slight turbo whine while cruising on the throttle.
My old 91 MR2 was noisier inside around town.
I,m runnin long here so lets get to the good part.
On city streets just tooling along you here both turbos in back of you Its like stereo.
Other than that the car was very quiet inside and the ride was firm but compliant.
And then the moment i will never ever never forget and it is this one.
The driver did a rolling start and the next thing I knew I left the seat and all 200 Lbs of me was plastered against the seat back.Seat belt on
My face was distorting and it was hard to turn my head side to side as I wanted to observe the shifting.
So i gave up on that and just focused ahead. Also I didnt want to risk a neck injury
I didnt come back down off the seat back until he was finished shifting and we were also running out of real estate .
There was no dramatics at all in this straight line run in the car itself.
The front end just stayed planted down on the road.
The turbo whine in my right ear was incredible loud as well as some other induction type noise.
Maybe the intake vent in the door or the one just in front of the rear wheel I dont know.
Outside of this machine you hear exhaust notes.
Inside you hear the Ferrari machinery at work sucking air in and not exhaust notes.
Thats my take on a ride in the F40

Zachary Smith I’m sure traction with the f40 is a huge problem. Plus it’s a manual which takes more skill to launch and drive and launch control/traction control was basically non existent back then. Based on that it’s probably not the best 0-60 but with like 500 horsepower and a 3000 curb weight it would destroy a lot of modern cars today up top.
Edit: was curious so I checked F40 was tested at 11.8 quarter mile @ 124mph
      2018 camaro ss 1le got 12.5 @ 115
      Just for comparative purposes
2018 BMW M5 with 600 horsepower runs a 11.1 @ 126.... so quarter mile it’s about on par with a new M5. The fact it’s .7 seconds slower but traps only 2mph slower indicates some wheel spin on launch (I’m pretty sure)

Pretty amazing to think there is a $60k+ Dodge sedan today that could run with the F40 in a straight line all the way to top end. But this thing blew the doors off most anything else on the road back then, and still does today truthfully.

Forgive my ignorance, because I am not a classical music aficionado, but can someone tell me what that the piece is being played throughout the driving clips? It really sets the mood for Italy, if not the car itself.

This car had the perfect stance with its wheels and tires. The rim size, tire size, offset, width, brake size, everything was perfect you can tell they were all designed to work together. This was an era where most performance cars had 'large' 15" wheels that were tucked way inside the wheel wells.

I had no idea of this being a 3.0 litre V8 4 cam per cylinder. This is an absolute feet in itself and turning out 471 hp is mind blowing. I know you can't compare apples to oranges but to put this into perspective I owned a 1999 Ford sho with the 3.4 V8 and it only produced 240 hp. It also too had 4 valves per cylinder. Ford vs Ferrari..

This video put a big stupid grin on my face (particularly that drift at 3:23). It's the same big stupid grin I had on my face as a kid when I got one in the form of one of those cheap ABS plastic toys from KMart, or pretty much any time anyone mentions the F40.
