He's such a dope. He said in one breath, Sirius screwed him over, cut his salary, took away his staff and his office, but then wanted him to sign a three-year deal. Makes no sense. He can't keep his b.s. straight. And he paid those guys because they were his lapdogs. He wanted people on the show who would laugh at everything he said and he could prove he's funny! Not like they say, like unfunny!

I would bet that at the time Opie was offered a 3 year deal at a fraction of what he use to make. Opie being Opie rejected it thinking he would get some kind of competing offer.
That has been his career MO. Ant has brought it up from time to time. Opie will only do 1 year at a time. Difficult for a duo if one sees security and the other wants a built in opt out.

@mshesh16 The problem was the Sirius XM bosses were already giving Opie shit over Ant's growing and more frequent race rants and were getting extremely tired of it. Ant fucked up by getting drunk fresh off at that situation, obviously super angry, and going on a racist Twitter rant post by post by post. Then he refused to apologize. It was a wrap for him as far as timing. Opie and Jim even said if they had time to do a show about it before any word of suspensions of firings, Ant may have been fine, but he has nobody to blame but himself. As far as I know, the bosses were already fucking pissed at Ant because of his Compound Media stream he was doing on the side.
I'm pretty sure he's man enough to take responsibility for his own actions regarding the situation and his firing, so be man enough to accept what happened happened.

People say opie betrayed ant because he didn't actually try to back ant up like he claimed he did. He took back his statement that he tried to get him back on the show, and Jim said ant was basically a banned topic with opie. You can see this in one of the opie-jim fights, where the guest mentions ant and opie gets angry and like a literal psycho says "NAH WHY WOULD I CARE IF YOU BRING HIM UP ITS FIIIIINE". In a way that was dripping with sarcasm and hatred. You can say ant had race rants, and he did, but have you not seen opie try to bait him into them? The topic wont have anything to do with race, all that has to happen is a black guy is mentioned and opie goes "right because D'hose people are all thieves" or something like that. Usually ant and jim put it on the pay no mind list.
Ant isn't a good person, but he's very open about his beliefs, and doesn't try to mask his racism through others, or pays black people to be his friend.
I see opie as a racist who hates himself for it, but won't change. Every new black slang word he heard he intentionally added to his vocabulary so people would think he's hip and not a racist. Ants 1950s voice, and jims cuckold dialogue is racist, but entertaining... and you learn about both of them as people. Ant is a weirdo who does impressions and likes old documentaries. Jim is a sex addict. Opie however only egged them on, or tried to shut down the conversation, which does one of two things: made him complicit, or it made him a hole.
The trouble with opie was he was, by his own admission, done with radio for years. He shouldn't have continued so long after his kid, because it just wasn't working with him. He was dragging the show down, and his marion-esque tough guy approach to management meant he'd use ant or Jim to continue being racist so he wouldn't get in trouble, but as you point out, others would. However his ego was so inflated (like Marion's) that he didn't realize he was becoming increasingly useless. His main contribution was reading or stealing instant feedback jokes.
I dont like defending ant because he really is an ass, buy opie does everything in his power to divert blame away, and its why he loses all his friends, but his dwindling number of fans think he's the only good one and everybody is just out to get them. In summation, opie is racist, but isn't creative or brave enough to use his own voice, so he hides behind cohosts and black slang.

Opie is lying. He says they came to him and hammered him, took away half his salary, his office, his staff and just basically screwed him. So if Sirius did all of that to him it means his show with just Jimmy must have been doing badly. If it was doing so poorly why would they then turn around and ask him to sign a 4 or 5 year deal and bring in an A-list guest host? He probably begged and pleased for them to give him a year to try and turn it around, and it obviously didn't do shit so when he gave them the opportunity to fire him for doing something stupid they took it.

Nah, Opie's contract was only a couple of months from being up and Opie ALWAYS waited until the last possible moment to agree to a new contract. Sirius was probably not going to renew his contract or Opie knew without Ant he didn't have the fanbase and listeners he once had, so he sabotaged himself by filming Bobo taking a shit. When the show was hot, the comics were benefited by the wide exposure that rationalized a free appearance. Nobody got paid for a chance to plug their performance dates. That's one of the reasons O&A were very careful about plugging the comics' shows repeatedly throughout the broadcast. This is a last gasp effort for Opie.

Jim Norton was the reason I started listening to O&A when they joined XM. He was the reason I kept listening when Anthony got fired from SiriusXM. He was the reason I started listening to the Jim & Sam show and stopped listening to the Opie Radio Show. I can't say I'm surprised Opie's career ended with him having to pay guests to come on his show. I just hope Lil Jimmy's success continues to grow because he's one funny sock cucka.

You obviously don't understand the context. Bob Kelly gave Opie some radio gold over the years and never saw a penny for it. With his knee, so many back and forths with Colin, jimmy, and Patrice, and he wasn't offered that when he was making Opies job easy. When those guys came in the studio Ope could just sit back, shut up and collect his check while the funny people were the show.

Why would anyone be mad that he paid Sherrod? Sherrod made the show imo. He was the best consistent guest who came in. He was the funniest guy on the whole show. Artie Lainge is obviously funnier, but Artie can only be funny in like 30 minute or 1 hour intervals. Then he says all his jokes and he gets quiet. Sherrod was hands down the best for 3 hours at a time.
