My hunter-gatherer works for me. If there's a mob at the node, then my wolf gets to play with it's new chew toy while I mine. When I'm done, a few shots from my bow finishes the mob off. My wolf gathers any loot for me and we're off to the next one. Even if there's a mini boss on the node, I can still gather while the big baddie is misdirected to my pet. I can then disengage back a bit, feign death (and my wolf does as well), even camouflage if needed, mount up and fly away.
the one thing nobody has answered me yet is: will I be able to gather everyresource even when I have not points in a certain specialisation? or do specialitions only give benefits towards gathering?
Herbalism is mostly for secondary crafting skills while Mining and Skinning cover all gearing (minus cloth which is looted). Blacksmithing (Mining) - Plate/Weapons Jewelcrafting (Mining) - Rings/Necklaces/trinkets. Leatherworking (Skinning) - Cloaks/Mail/Leather
You can specialize in perception as well, so for instance my dracthyr miner finds the bonus rare crafting mats probably every 3rd node. That isn't a ton, but I have a perception set I am working on that I think will make it at the very least every other node, if not every node, I will find another rare crafting item. Just what I've seen so far.
If you cannot get to all of the glyphs but you have a friend who has done it or is working on it, you can do the whelpling ride along with them and get credit for the glyphs at the same time as long as they can be sure to guide it just so that the whelp also touches each glyph. I helped a friend get them in Beta and I will be helping others in DF once I get the red dragon. There are videos on youtube posted to show the locations and tips for getting each one on UA-cam.

Supposedly you will be able to learn everything, it's just a matter of what you learn first and what you spend months finishing but you will eventually learn it all. Something like the legendary fishing rod in Legion, if that means anything to you.
Does mount equipment work for dragonriding mounts? Could we equip Comfortable Rider's Barding to avoid daze dismounting? Is daze still a thing with dragonriding mounts?
Everytime I watch a Video like this I have to remember myself that not BLizzard is at fault that WoW lost its magic, its just myself for watching minmax Videos even before Expansions are out...

The magic wont ever be the same and its because of this minmaxing mentality that most of us have nowadays. Sometimes I just wish I could be so Naive again and just go into an MMO or Expansion, make a LOT of dumb mistakes and learn things just by doing them. Man im torn on what to do for profs, I like to also have the professions thematically make sense with the class too. Gonna main druid so was thinking Herb/Alch but I reeeeally like Enchanting for some reason, man idk lol
On the positive side for druids, it does open the door for them to use all of their mounts they've collected over the years while gathering, instead of feeling obligated to use flight form all the time. It always felt a bit underwhelming playing druid to get a new flying mount knowing it will rarely be used. So druids being able to finally use them while gathering herbs is a nice little plus, even if it won't be unique to them in DF.
Tauren and HMT drop your cast time to 1.7 seconds from 3 seconds. It is basically like having the gathering glove enchants from the previous expansions. The advantage with those two is that they can play druids which means you can gather herbs while in travel form. This advantage means that you can take the points you would have spent in mining/herb to get the gather while mounted and put them towards something else. The Dracthyr option is actually only a bonus in Dragonflight content so if your gathering toon is going to be one that you use for older content as well, you will want to go with your prefered Tauren option. There is also the fact that Dracthyr can only be one class, so if you are not wanting to play a caster then you will also want a Tauren. And last point for the cows, both Tauren races can play tank classes, so if you want to be able to not get dismounted while riding around gathering, then you will want to roll with the beef.
Hey Soul, thanks for the info. Question: have you have tested the different builds for which one is best? It seems you’re assuming that speed is always best. But there are other unlocks that could be more effective. For example maxing out Sorting first will give more Finesse which gives you more ore per node. This means you will have to visit less nodes for the same amount of ore which means less gathering time overall. This could be more efficient then just being speedy when at the node. Also your build misses various unlocks that could be lucrative eg. Surveying unlocks finding diamonds, Industrialisation unlocks finding gems. Then in the other specs Metallurgy unlocks refining to produce higher quality ores - that’s gotta be a money maker. Finally Mastering the Elements improves getting the Rousing elemental items which are needed for all production professions.
That video was shot from the hip, but here're more thoughts: Perception and Finesse stats increase the chance of obtaining materials which is a difficult perk to quantify. Mounted gathering is much easier to understand. A character who takes those perks early will then, forevermore in the dragon isles, save that much more time not having to mount back up or be careful about getting into combat. The other perks ARE great, but IMO not a good short term gain. Refining requires 5 of a lower rank material to make the next higher one. Materials will be pretty scarce early on but as skill level goes up gatherers will be able to naturally gather higher ranked materials. The elements tree is great - when you find elemental nodes. They're more plentiful than they were in earlier beta builds but the perception/finesse gains from them just aren't worth it for early specialization - they're more like mid to endgame specs to focus on. Mounted gathering is a brutally powerful early perk to spec for that benefits every outdoor node.

From the gathering I've done there're very few instances where there's more than one mob near a node. I'd say if you happen to already be NE you're not in a bad spot at all, but I wouldn't recommend a race change
I'm wondering how resistant dragon riding is to botting. That will affect how quickly the gather bots take over the economy, since they can't have a horde of druids swarming around in flight form.
Instead of having to choose between one of the two cows, can't the speed gathering be achieved with gathering tools? (I can't see enchants for it this time) if yes, then Drak gets ahead on best race to gather in the Dragon Isles
I just checked on beta. If the internet is correct, Deftness is the stats that affects your gather speed. There's an enchant to increase your deftness by 24. You can also use Blacksmithing to make a pickaxe that increase Deftness up to 90. And Engineering can make a helmet that increases your deftness in mining in 36. So, Profession tool + 2 accessories enchants + 1 accessory with Deftness = 174 Deftness. I can't, right now test how much this reduces the gathering speed but I'd guess it can be compared to the racials if not better :D
for herbalism point of wiew: isnt opening up mastery of elements is as important? cause it gives you the extra skill for the elemental herb gathering stuff like asap??
Pretty sure you can do that without speccing into it. The 40 points you put into botany are all purpose, so you would also improve your elemental gathering with those.
@@Psi-Storm but if you dont spec into the elemental thing you lose so many possible resources. especially from frigid herbs. they give like 8 extra herbs with extra reagents. "after which point are we able to choose another specialization" is the question that needs to be answered. maxing 40 points on a single trait is not going to be easy, and will take time. during this time it looks much wiser to go elemental path, pick the initial thing, get the skill, improve on the stat, then move to botany looks more feasible to me.
i'm going for Mining and Skinning on my Drak, so he can harvest materials to get the reagents for crafted gear with all my alts, well 2/3 of my alts i should say, clothies not so much.... hmm... maybe Mining/Tailoring instead...

Stealing my druid flight form in trade for my druid ability for any class to use makes me as sad as taking meta from locks for dh made me. And they won't even let me fly in dragon flight
This is going to ruin gold making for those of us that sell sky golems. Blizzard always nullifies aspects of their game. Like when they nullified water strider reps for everyone. Just giving away what others put the time in to.
With all the farming required just to level up the profession and everything, the AH is going to get flooded with mats all over again, with massive undercutting across all the realms. It looks like it's going to end up being a more complicated, and more time consuming system, that in the end lets you farm mats which will be completely worthless. It's great that crafting and gathering are going to be more 'fun' by having more requirements, and gear, and skill trees, and new stats... But I'd rather them be valuably for gold making, not a fun minigame on the side to kill time.
There are far more types of items that need to be crafted and crafters will be needing to buy up massive amounts of resources to level their skills and to create items every single player NEEDS to buy. As an example everyone with any profession will need at least 6 profession equipment, and they have a quality so crafters will be grinding up their skills to make the best of these items. lots of new consumables too for each profession, I think it will be ok.
If you think that there are going to be too many gatherers and prices for herbs and ore are going to crater, then focus on consuming their cheap materials for crafting. ezpz

Yes, you can gather everything, specs can make one resource type more lucrative than another.
Or you can spec broadly and just be better

what about mounted skinning?
As a race choice I'd also reccomend nightelf for early mining, since the stealth will help with combat evasion when not mounted in large groups
NE druid is without doubt the best class/race for dual gatherers.
