Some of the best life advice
When going into a business or a romantic relationship. ..
You have to go in head first like your not afraid to fail .
And give it everything, when you put in a real effort and truly give your all.
Even if it doesn't work out, you never have to worry about " what ifs" , avoiding any rumination. It either did or didn't but it wasn't because there was anything more you could have done .
This brings acceptance and finalization. Freeing up the mind to think and move forward open to process previous or future information effectively.
Thanks for reminding me about this . I really enjoy seeing people do things the right way and watch things work out how they should .
You might call or luck, but I find that the harder I work, it seems I get more and more " Lucky "

@12:00 This is some real truth right here. So many successful business people will not FESS UP when and where luck played a hand in their journey. It does. You get lucky. Events happen and they change your course or give you opportunities you never had before. Kudos, Rudy, for honoring the lucky moments in life and congrats to you for being able to seize that luck!

I literally just got caught up in watching Alpha Investments and I bought myself a box. Then everyday, I'd smoke a J and go in te garden and ope na few packs. I still have those cards.

20:38 its because of the collector boosters and now that everything is special. You hit a foil shockland today its nothing special especially if you have to spend 200+ on the box to get said cards. Back then you spend $90 on a box and get $10 cards that are played and loved by everyone the challenge to get all 10 was so special. But timmy wants to just pull them all with one box and wizards wants to put out more product so you can pay more to get more while killing the poor mans fun in the challenge and getting something exspensive from a box that may be cheaper.
EDIT: sorry for my poor grammer and wording. :/

..that's what happened to dozen of things ...... sports cards ....comic books ...... Marvel ..and Disney films ..... collectibles toys throughout the decades .....
....stamps ...coins ..... however, most MTG players ....especially the newer ones ....Commander friendly .....with no responsibility for a spouse , kids, mortgage, ..... will spend the hefty prices for small cardboard pieces .... LOL

OK I have not watched yet but will try to guess. Rudy is independently wealthy and wants to enjoy that while doing something he likes, he knows the cards he collects will hold value, something he can either fall back on or pass on to his kids/grand kids. He gets to crack packs all the time, and hosts a venue which would see traffic due to his work. End game... Keep collecting, be comfortable , and I guess towards the end its custom chess boards. High end lasered holo pieces of valuable crystal, set to gemstone boards custom made for the worlds moneyed folk... Lets watch...

My fear with cardboard collecting as an investment is the volatility and those who use it as their primary or only investing. I don't have an issue with it but I think it should be alongside a healthy portfolio of other investing assets rather than the only or primary investment. I don't look at my card collection as an investment but I also don't buy into the game as an investment either.

Hey Rudy, do you ever think keeping all of this sealed *paper* product in a state like Florida that’s so susceptible to hurricanes and flooding is a bad idea?
I know you’re in the northern part of the state so it’s less likely but you’re still far from immune to major weather events. With the amount of resources and inventory you have, plus a background in property management, I’m sure you have the insurance coverage for it all figured out. But even if insurance does reimburse you for a fair amount, that doesn’t bring back the product that would be lost if such an event were to happen. It’s just gone with zero chance of recovery.
Do you ever feel like with the amount of vintage product you have that there is a responsibility on your shoulders to keep that stuff in a safer environment than Florida? Not just for your own financial benefit, but for the benefit of vintage Magic as a whole. I can’t recall you ever bringing this up before so it would be nice to hear what you have to say.

    • @daftwulli6145
      @daftwulli6145 Рік тому +4

the really rare vintage stuff like the sets and whatnot are sitting in bank vaults for that very reason. As for the rest, that is what insurance is for, and it just makes the rest of the collection more valuable if there is less of it.

Had the same mindset of collect everything coming out with MTG. A few boxes, maybe a case of each set i really liked. Then hasbro turned up the product line/releases to 500% and powercreep'd every card needing a paragraph to read before play and, to me, the game has outlived it's usefulness of a once good game.
Sold out of my stuff a couple years ago. Paid off everything and set for retirement.
Now I cube revised, ice age, and mirage for nostalgia purposes with friends and that is that.

    Hey Rudy!
    This is the Truth.
    You did not change.
I have been attached to Magic for around 25 years consistently.
The fact is that current recent magic sets have become less and less valuable.
If your products are being purchased less , the value of your investments are less, and the attraction by your fans are less ......it's nothing personal ...... many stores in Southern California have closed down ..... I have sold most of my cards ....
..but I still enjoy the games ..... I have purchased much less and less Magic cards ....
...my resources are diverted in other directions ......

I remember really really back in the first videos, you mentioned the reason you did youtube was as a recommendation from your doctor to speak and open up with more people (?).
It was so long ago that I forgot what you said exactly, but you seemed to not care how the youtube did, and was afraid no one would watch you. But it was a self reflection exercise for you.
Is it all my imagination? Do any of the old folks here remember it?
    Rudy, please clarify.

Rudy i dont think you underestimated how smart WotC is, you underestimated how little WotC gives a shit about anything which isnt within the realm of "Corporate Social Responsibility" (aka Bullshitting from the PR department). If you would have been damaging to the WotC/Hasbro feel good brand they would have cut you off.

@@theboringchannel2027 i would disagree. Things change as the shares of hasbro have already halved from teir highs and rudys position is only growing. Im hoping down the road maybe him and a group of friends could hold a position strong enough to challenge the leadership of the company and im hoping this happens sooner than later. The collector booster and variants madness and unbearable reprint speed needs to end.
