  • caius redumped the sound ROM on Thunder & Lightning 2. The previous dump was 4Mbit, the PCB is even silkscreened with a 4Mbit marking at the ROM location. The ROM however is 8Mbit, half of it was missing in the old dump leading to most of the music being missing, and the sound eventually failing entirely.

Nice to see the Sound ROMs redumped, last time I played this, some of the sounds & music where cut-off.
Some history of Visco, Visco was formed in 1982 & incorporated on August 8, 1983 by Tetsuo Akiyama ⁅秋山 哲雄⁆, their first video games where; Mahjong Yarou ⁅麻雀野郎⁆, Mahjong Shiyou ⁅麻雀士様⁆, Mahjong Senka ⁅麻雀専科⁆, & Panic Road ⁅co-developed with Seibu Kaihatsu, manufactured by Taito⁆. Visco begined making games for Taito (Asuka & Asuka, & Ashura Blaster), Seta (Thunder & Lighting), & Romstar (UN Defense Force: Earth Joker, NES/Famicom: Twin Eagle: Revenge Joe's Brother, Thunder & Lighting, Rally Bike ⁅Licensed from Toaplan⁆, & Cowboy Kid ⁅developed by Pixel⁆ ⁅Visco published these NES/Famicom games in Japan⁆), Visco started to sell games on their own (such as; Block Carnival/Thunder & Lighting 2 (seen here), Neo Mr. Do! ⁅licensed from Universal⁆, Puzzle de Pon ⁅licensed from Taito, as it's based on Puzzle Bobble/Bust-a-Move⁆, & Ganryu/Musashi Ganryuki, Visco teamed up with Seta, & Sammy to design the SSV (Seta, Sammy, & Visco) boards (the SSV hardware was discontinued after Universal/Aruze in December 2008 that Seta close their doors), Visco's last game (a Medal game actually) was Crown Magic: Cherry Rush released in 2005 in Japan & South East Asia. Visco seems to be dormant as now, as their website is still up & hasn't been updated sense 2005, after Crown Magic: Cherry Rush was released.

Cool. I remember this from (apparently) last Nov 15. You were right! It turned out to be a half-sized underdump.

I'm wonder if you could someday do a tutorial about how to import MAME SL content, I never had troubles with arcade stuff (chd, samples, roms, etc), but I cannot find a way to make mame recognize the SL stuff. Keep it up the good work!

a lot of the issues with the SL stuff come from understanding how the systems worked in the first place. Otherwise it's just a case of the correct ROMs in the correct folders just like MAME. It's easier to give support for specific cases.

@@mamehaze Thanks for the reply! I am very confortable with Clrmamepro, so I'm pretty sure I have valid ROMs that matches with current MAME version DATs, so probably the issue it's the folder structure. I tried to find tutorials about it, but I had no success,... 99% of the MAME videos and tutorials are about Arcade stuff (which it's understandable)...
      Thank you once again ;)

Dave, sorry if my SDOJ comments on reddit hit you the wrong way, the whole scenario really bugged me. I can tell by your response I hit a nerve. Apologies. I support game preservation, full stop. I appreciate the work Mame devs do. I hope you're well and you don't hold my agitation towards the Mame / Exa scenario against me.

We're a little sick of hearing it, especially in release threads where there's plenty else to talk about. Also everybody is missing the point, by documenting it, even for a week, it IS now preserved. Before that various hacks were being passed around with no documentation anywhere of what the correct set was meant to be. Exa are within their rights to ask for it to not be supported, it isn't some kind of war.

@@mamehaze hey, appreciate the reply and I get it. I didn't want to leave this hanging I hope you understand the response on Reddit was born from lingering frustration with Exa and no form of malice towards you or any other devs was intended. Nice channel btw.
