When we got married back in the 70's, (ya I know older than dirt), my wife and I packed from Northern California Mt. Shasta all the way to Yosimite, about 200 miles. Now we had support from her sister who would bring food and clean cloths to various camp sites. BUT my knife was a Vic Hunter and a Buck 110. And we were fine. Today we need a 47 piece Leatherman, which I really like for options. Modern tech brings lots of options. I like that.
Short version of review: 1. Blade is too short 2. File is bad and without metal saw 3. Scissors are ugly in comparison with SAK 4. Awl is not perfect 5. Screwdrivers is OK
They were stagnant for a few years so i appreciate them trying to spice up the market but none of these tools have really compelled me to replace my old stuff with them.
There is definitely something unnatural looking about an awl without a pointed tip. I feel they could have included that screwdriver in some other way and given us a more conventional pointed awl.that would be better for piercing!
@@WeAllJuggleKnives @WAJK Ever test / look into these double walled insulated "growlers /water bottles" ? Just got ua-cam.com/video/d4uc-Ecmafw/v-deo.html
I totally love the design of these new leathermans but I totally dislike most of the tools. That file/screwdriver thing lone drives me mad. I already hated it on the Wingman. And why not replace all the screwdrivers with a bit holder? Meh. A very good review, though.
That hair pull was hilarious. Excellent usage tests as usual. Im interested in this one. I don't have the free yet and don't think I need it. Maybe this might be a better fit.
Yep as many have expressed in the comments I'll stick with my SAKs for this style of tool. It's not a bad attempt by Leatherman like you said but it doesnt beat an SAK imo. I suppose if you were a leatherman super fan boy instead of just a fan boy like me, then you might want to get one if you just want to carry leathermans. I have leathermans and Vics and I carry the tool that fits the need best for the circumstances I may find myself in. For me that means my Victorinox Trekker is my EDC 99% of the time along with a Classic SD on my keychain for the scissors. My Leatherman Wave is in my truck, my Victorinox Explorer sits on the end table next to my lazyboy in the living room, I've also got a Leatherman wingman tucked in my EDC bag just in case, and finally Ive got a Victorinox camper and a Leatherman Juice CS4 in specific outdoor/survival kits as well as 2 more Victorinox Trekkers(My all time Favorite Knife/multitool)
Nice video. Good job. I have noticed the leatherman has limitations on what the scissors will do. The leatherman weighs to much compared to say a Victorinox Explorer which is a comparable tool at about $36 and 3.5 oz about an oz lighter and almost half the price.👍
Another great alternative are the Boker Tech Tools, especially 5, great EDC knives and UK friendly too. I did bite the bullet and buy a T4 though as it was the tool I was most looking forward to. See how it goes. My initial impression was that it contained quite a lot of plastic!
Like I said on another review for this unit, it's bulkier than I was expecting, so I may as well step up to a full-sized Leatherman or step down to a SAK.
That is a good point, the two categories you mention may well serve people better and they may not need anything in-between. I often feel that way about various categories and sizes of knives (but I still try to do a thorough review in case someone else likes a particular category more than I).
Another consideration: Love the channel. Loved the comments. Love Victorinox. I wouldn't compare this to the Tinker at $30. #1: The T4 has 100% locking tools. Victorinox has models that the blade locks. If you add the locking blade plus all the tools and the pockets clip accessory for VIC, the price is up there with the T4 or more. Those VIC models are longer and just as wide. The Vic Outrider is close, but has no clip, for $60. I love the Outrider. My LEO price on both the T4 and VIC are about the same. The Outrider is bigger than the T4. #2: Magnets are great and unlike many things (Springs) don't wear out. However, they are expensive ( I teach Science and Mathematics since retiring, I have to order Magnets for my classes).
great video. I am considering the T4. I have long carried a Victorinox and love it, but there are times when one-hand opening is just so helpful, and a deep carry pocket clip makes life easier. Having the awl and the phillips screwdriver deploy out the end (vs t-handle style like my SAK) would be great as well. I think I would miss the SAK scissors though...

I love leatherman i had the pst2 then that got lost or stolen. Got a wave & lost that. Personally i like leathermans multi tools better than gerbers multi tools.
You lost a lot of weight! Looks great! I like the awl, like the scissors. If I had this tool, I would grind the tip to be sharp and lose the mini screw driver. Not happy with the file and not at all happy with the thickness of the tool. I will be skipping this multitool.
I ordered the T4 same day it was released on the Leatherman website and returned it the following day. Why?... Because it's a joke! This tool should be priced at $30-$35 max. A thick chunk of plastic mixed together with a 420HC blade and a bunch of micro tools makes the T4 look like one of those made in China flea-market multi-tool. For the same price you can get a much better quality product. Let's wait for the release of the "also overpriced" $80 and $90 FREE K2 & K4 knives coming out by the end of July.

If you work in stocking or retail, use the osha approved utility knife that is provided to you and not a pocket knife. It’s the right tool for the job, it works better, it’s what it’s made for, it’s free and replacements are free, and you won’t get fired for using the osha approved box cutter like you could be for using a pocket knife.
Resume: neither of the instruments is perfect. Philips screwdriver plus bottle opener piece seems to be the best one; prybar plus package opener is normal; blade is short; scissors do not cut paracord; file is just awful. And all that for $60. Fail.

Locking blade, pocket clip.

Very thorough. Almost seems like there's a trend with the extra stubby files. Files and saws should always be as long as possible, I feel.

$60?! Good lord, that’s a lotta money
Their prices have definitely gotten high lately, I’ve started including a list of more budget friendly alternatives with all my videos :D
It's 80 euro (90$) in europe... 😲
It’s $100 AUD ($70 USD) here in Australia. The P series was marked up even more at 50% more expensive.
In nsw Australia it’s $139 and t2 is $99

Welcome! All in all, I think you will be happy with it.
I really like the victorinox recruit always seem to make it into my pocket organizer with my Fisher space pen and my olight mini flashlight 👌
I don’t see the advantage of this over a SAK at the current price. Tool looks overly chucking as well but hard to judge on video.

Another overpriced leatherman gimmick, had one for an hour and sent it back. Think al stick with victorionox.
