Plastic to Fuel Reactor Explosion - Horrible Accident

I have been treated for severe burns to my feet and ankles.
I currently have a PPE gofundme here:

Here's the video breaking down how the reactor works: • I turn Plastics into F...
I believe with the world wide crisis we are facing now, we require a world wide solution. And this is why I believe we need decentralized devices such as this Reactor. Think about it, even if there is just 1 reactor in every community, that will put a huge dent in plastic waste and pollution.
Due to this, I do not wish to make a singular specialized Reactor, once I master and complete this one, I want to make all different types, of all different scales and sizes.

So this might sound insensitive, but if you didn't see this coming then you have no business trying to make "fuel". The amount of VOCs you are dumping into your neighborhood is absolutely insane. That "fuel" is probably mostly VOCs and that "pure carbon" isn't. You are playing with cancer fire. You just opened a pressurized container full of Pyrophoric gasses and you weren't even wearing a flash suit. There is a reason that there are safety regulations in the oil and gas industry. Every single task in an oil refinery has a sequence of events that need to be followed in order to ensure safety. You need to remember that those chemicals and that machine do not care about you. They do not care if you made a mistake or if you have family that loves you. They do not care if your neighbors are sitting in their backyard. They will kill indiscriminately and without mercy. People saying this is a learning experience are 100% correct and hopefully it was a wakeup call. You have no idea how much benzene you have exposed yourself to and you won't know the results until it is to late.

@@ogonbio8145 yeah for sure. I am a safety tech and industrial hygiene specialist in the oil and gas industry and I have seen the results of people ignoring safety procedures when it comes to working with deadly chemicals and pressurized equipment. On top of that I know what they use to make plastic and it's the waste materials not used to produce fuel. That is the reason that plastic isn't recycled into fuel. That is why you don't want to breathe in the smoke from a plastic fire. It's sad but this guy is probably already fucked.

Definitely, that's the first thing that came to mind after the explosion. Sometimes it takes these accidents (which are minor compared to how bad it could have been. . .So many tragic possible scenarios) to make us never take our safety for granted. It's imperative to gear up when it comes to highly combustible material like these. Severe burns change lives. Fire is one element that is pissed off 24/7 and will react the same way every time when you touch it.

Pyrolysis has been here as long as plastics as well. And viable research goes for at least 50 years. Most advanced pyrolysis reactors barely get to break even if you take into account energy from methane fraction being burned to drive the reactor. Lack of energy balance analysis or analysis of products is showing here. And how much polystyrene and PET have you put into the feed? This will yield in good yield of benzene in the distilled crude oil. Benzene is known carcinogen. And the key here is the dose, exposure to concentration for time duration. Please be safe.

Mistakes are an outstanding teacher; watch some USCSB investigative videos; they might have a video on a refinery (albeit at much larger scales and different types) that could share a mode of detonation with your model. We're immensely proud of your drive dude, but you gotta be safe working with stuff like this. The most dangerous risks are the ones your body can't detect until it's too late. Get yourself vetted for hazardous chemical exposure, environmental contamination and a breakdown of what's in that carbon. Toxins are no joke. Heal up and get to feeling better soon!

Oftentimes it has the opposite effect of making people less likely to comply or agree, simply because the idea wasn't their own. Text is terrible at carrying intent.
It's not a crazy thought of course and I don't disagree it'd be good to peep at existing SOPs, but industry has it's own short falls; which the USCSB is dedicated to investigating

Fire is one element that is pissed off 24/7 and will react the same way every time when you touch it. It's situations like this that put even the pros in check, letting them know that PPE isn't above anyone. No matter how much control you may have, accidents happen. And sometimes, the reasoning behind the occurrence is something that is completely out of our control.

I came across your channel after getting fired and you gave me a little bit of fire. When i see other peole try like you are it helps me have motivation. I feel hopeless many times but I take it one step at a time. I think this accident could have been avoided if taking one small step at a time. You said I have to go quick and rushed in. This is the cause.

Lack of basic security can be deadly, dont ever disasemble a destillation unit running, never have open flame when working with flammables, been there done that, always shut down, vent gas if you need to do emergency things, i hop you learn as i did, i watch and really like what you do, but safety first, always

  • @Stellaknot

Very sorry you had an accident but I hope you took this as an opportunity to learn the dangers of voc’s and make safety a priority in the future. Also this is pyrolysis and is nothing new, the products and by products are all extremely hazardous and toxic not only to you but the environment as well. Benzene isn’t a joke, your machine is a cancer factory. Admire your drive but you are putting yourself and others at risk. I would advise you to educate yourself on the risk and inform those around you of said risk as it’s not fair to knowingly expose others to substances that directly impact their health. Please be safe, this is extremely dangerous and I’m not just talking about the risk of fire/explosions. The risk and lessons have already been learned and the best practices when dealing with these chemicals are written in blood. Please please please learn from them

You need a simple computerized pressure sensor to warn you of working conditions with your prototype. This could be worse if you don’t add safety warning devices.
