I go to a cancer appt each month and I notice most chemo patients carry a bag of stuff as they will be there for awhile. This would fit the bill to take socks, fleece lap cover, sweater, tablet, earbuds, water bottle etc. Sometimes backpacks put pressure on the wrong spot or are too hard to manipulate...a bag like this in a beautiful color or design...perfect. Make one, donate one. What a lovely gift! Thank you...glad I found your channel.

You could sew velcro to be able to close it if needed. Or a button with a scrap material rolled or a tiny strap to hook around the button. I think it would be a great bag for a baby bottle diaper wipes for a quick trip to the store. What about a bag for a change of clothes for the park or toddler or child activity.

I am new to your channel and happy to have found it. I have sewn for almost 50 years. I love your commentary as you sew. The information about needles and stitch length is seldom mentioned but can make such a difference in the end product. Another economical fabric source is old sheets or pillow cases for lining. Thanks for your time and willingness to share. If you are new to sewing or have been sewing for years, you can always learn new techniques and tips.😊

You won me over when you said, "I iron, I don't press". I do the same. When you iron, you can block at the same time, and even out small variances. Yes I am a quilter, but I iron. Thanks for the tutorial.

    • @rainydaydiva6320
      @rainydaydiva6320 4 місяці тому

I iron my fabric also and my projects come out just fine. The only time I will press is if my quilt blocks have bias seams, gotta be careful with those bias seams. Everyone should just do what works for them, after all it’s supposed to be fun, and we shouldn’t worry about what others say about our desire to iron vs pressing. 😂

U are a born teacher. Just completed this bag using same dry mats . My grand kids school symbol is the bee. I’m a fairly new quilter and love to dabble in easy sewing projects to make gifts when I can. Only thing I changed was stitch length to 3.5 to get through the double layers of foam. U are amazing straight foward and building confidence. This also was a very forgiving project. Teachers are always lugging around tons of stuff. Will try to figure out how to send picture. Thank u C

I used to volunteer in my son's elementary school. Every year I would go to the 1st grade classes and teach them to sew pillows. We would use felt because it doesn't fray. I used blunt embroidery needles so no one gets hurt. The kids loved the project and began to be one of the most exciting days of the year. My own son was sewing with the machine by himself by the time he was 6. Sewing with kids is a life skill that is still taught in schools around the world sadly not in the USA. I highly recommend!

Please close your rotary cutter every time you put it down! I once saw someone severely cut her hand when she reached without looking. She had 38 stitches on the inside of her fingers and spent a week not able to use that hand. I know it’s a pain to reopen it every cut. It just takes one grab to cause issues!

Thanks for your fun tutorials. You do a great job of teaching. One thing I noticed, as a longtime sewer, is I strongly recommend closing your rotary cutter when you set it down as you are focusing on beginner sewers. Once you’ve become accustomed to working with the cutter, then you probably won’t be as diligent, but as beginners probably aren’t aware of how sharp or how quickly you can be cut by them. Just a thought…

I am so happy I found you!!! You're amazing, funny, and talented!! Since seeing this tutorial on Tuesday, yes, just 4 days ago, I've made a bag every day. Shared this with my cousin, who made 3 immediately. We are both beginner sewists, so this is perfect for us!
She and I have both put pockets inside. They make all the difference!
One question, is there a way to make this with 3 mats? I can envision it as a color block, with a solid mat on the bottom and then the cute pattern on the top. This would give it 6" more on each side. I am going to attempt it, but not sure exactly how to box the bottom.
Anyway, i wish i could post a few pictures of my creations, but i can't figure how to do so. Anyway, a million THANKS!

You are wonderful, I so enjoyed this project, and one of the comments actually gave me an idea about making these for Chemo and kidney facilities to donate. Our DAR sisters are busy sewing these for our health project in Cape Coral. You go girl, and what a wonderful instructor you are.

@@shesewsseams I also used left over quilted fabric to make a couple of the bags, they turned out very nice, I used bias tape to cover the raw edges, then followed the same instructions. I really enjoy your energy. Keep going with these videos you're terrific.

Beautiful bag. I would use it for church. Use it for my Bible and notebook. My iPad. I would put a small strap and button or snap to close it. Or if you’re good with zippers . Put that in. I’ve been only watching a couple of time but the bags you have made are terrific. I would like to try one before summer is over.

This would be a good overnight bag. Thank you for your video. I just bought myself a sewing machine for a Christmas gift from me for me, but I don’t know how to use it. It’s a quilting sewing machine with embroidery ability.

OMGosh!! That bag is adorable. I have been sewing since I was 8 years old and I am now 68! This is one of the cutest projects I have seen in a long time!! You are so good at explaining what you are doing and a great encouraging force for women who are just starting to sew! I have always said that if you can sew you can do anything and bring out your own personality and style! I love this! Great job!

I'm so glad I found you! I'm in Australia so I'll be going to our "Reject shop " tomorrow! I was looking for a bag today suitable for my art papers, you've inspired me to make my own. So far I have made one quilt which was start to finish in a class.

You could add a third mat to make the "bottom" - it would make the bag a bit taller. It might require a 3rd Fat Quarter, so the price would go from $5.00 to $7.50.
