- Hear from four distinguished academic professionals on how to prepare for your academic interview. Presented by the Center for Career Development and the UConn Graduate School
This is amazing! The insights into the interview process are eye-opening.
Especially watch the uptalk (high rising terminal) during an interview. It's so easy to get tired with a candidate if that's throughout their entire talk.
The information provided here is very informative and on time. It almost feels that the interview is more like a mentor committee interview hahaha.
Very helpful information. I'm walking away feeling very competent and confident. Thanks!
Such a helpful video! Thanks a lot!
Came across this again, the "advice" at 10:45 is mind-blowingly stupid. We hire people based on their 'tenurability". That's a two-way street. The candidates deserve to know the expectations so they can speak to them in the interview. Just astonishing that this person has any say in the hiring process based on that comment.
The part in the beginning about "Don't ask about tenure" was terrible advice. You need to know what the expectations are and make sure the University's expectations regarding teaching and service will allow you to hit the tenure expectations. Without both pieces of knowledge, you might be walking into a minefield.
Thank you so much for this very useful information.
The geneticist is out there
Maybe the people who hired her to do interviews should have been interviewed better to realize that they should have known more about interviews.
Interview and interview board expect prepared lier(actors). But actually interview board should be expect true.
As experiance I interviewed many people for very hard machine overhauling jobs. My boss did the same. But he told lot of lies about job and carrier opertunities and encourage people and hire them. They didn't work even one week. when I hired I tell the true and show what is the actuall job. How hard and jow long will take for promotion. Then some people told they can't. People who came to work. Came to work continuously.
Lot of people expect practiced fake liers.
When I go to interviews lot of them reject me due to I can't tell practiced lie I tell truth.
Why people don't like truth. Truth is bitter. They want sweet lies of successful actors.
This kind of expected prepared meeting reject lot of good honest people and we blocking there opertunities.
Honest is important than any thing.
11:00 So you are supposed to have long term plan of your research, but not job prospect?
I cannot believe what a dumb and contradictory piece of advice she gave. I almost emailed her directly one day to tell her how abjectly stupid "Do not ask what does it take to get tenure. When somebody asks that about tenure I throw there application in the garbage" is. It's mind blowing...
All the chalk talks for academic job are for s step after being short listed among 200 candidates.
At the 26 min mark in the video. Did I just hear someone promoting Power Point as a method of teaching. As a student we all know that this method is usually despised by many students.
I think it depends on the concept.
