Thanks for the video. Because of it, I was able to fix a significant oil leak going on for many years. I had always thought it would take major disassembly to replace that seal until I saw your video. I'd like to add that my 1979 automatic had a star shaped springsteel seal retainer that I had to remove first. I really like the intro music.
That was a very informative video Keith, I'm sure that it will help a lot of people who want to change the selector oil seal, and thanks for the shout out 👍
Keith - really informative - thank you. You also work with diligence and cleanliness every time - always great to see such passion in what you are doing!
Thanks for the video, my sons 96’ Mayfair auto selector seal needs doing so this is a great help, just wish the engine wasn’t still in the car😂. Just a couple of questions 1) where did you get the seal from and 2) what colour silver did you spray your Mayfair wheels? Thanks
Interesting comment about having to split the Diff. casing to get the RH seal in place. Both sides are the same part number (same as the Pot Joint manual 'box) so there is no difference in the seal itself. I would hook the old one out and compare it with the other old one and the new ones. Even with HS couplings the different seal part number is the same both sides. Thats a really clean looking assembly now but just imagine having to do that seal in the car 😳
Yes, same diff seal but apparently on some gearboxes, maybe early ones, the seal sits in a recess in the housing. To be honest I've not looked too hard yet.
@@classicminiworkshop Thats right unlike the manual 'box which has two housings but not heard of the recess. Even so I can't see why you would need to split the Diff. casing as it would have been machined for the seal after the casing was assembled. Like the manual and auto Diffs. are for the two main bearings. Be interesting to see what you find. Anyway some bedtime reading 😁 www.jpat.co.uk/uploads/1/0/3/5/103549764/old_automotive_products_ii.pdf
The seals themselves are the same for both sides but I think on earlier boxes the o/s one is recessed in the diff housing. I might be wrong about my one, I've not tried removing it yet. I thought I would get the gaskets first just in case

Nice video! I own one with auto gearbox but now reverse is not working, any tip?
Sorry, I don't know but it's worth asking on here: autominiregister.proboards.com/
Shame the camera was not point directly at it but still helpful
Whats the part number on that? Mine went recently and I usually have a 50/50 shot ordering parts online
Sorry, I can't find the paperwork now. If you message Martin at www.ap2.world he should be able to help you out
I kick myself for you 😅 not doing this on KITT's engine. 😂
What is the seal part number that you replaced?
I don't have the number but you might be able to find it here or ask the question ap2.world/
