I've been following your build from the beginning, and it's coming along very nicely. A nice bit of tunel entry structure will go well with track going into the closet. Just my imagination. Looking forward to further developments. Thanks for sharing your design and build tips from this great father and son project.
Thanks for posting. I love the LED light strip and the removable fascia boards, very smart. please keep posting more videos we need to see your progress as all of us know. We are building a Time Saver HO switching layout. Great Job! Thanks for posting!
Ok guys. I like your channel! I have subscribed and will be watching. I too am in the beginning stages of designing a layout. Great to see father and son working together like this!
Oh man you guys are awesome! Love the father son teamwork. Great job. The magnet idea is brilliant. Can’t wait for the next episode, eat dinner first though. -Mark
Hello from Tucson, found your channel this last weekend. Really like the green. Such "frames" are usually black so they disappear, but the green does maybe an even better job in that regard. The painted 'temp backdrop is cool but, would you two be interested in some sky/cloud wallpaper. The price is really good:) Here's Johnny reminded me of Johnny Carson. Liked the sister reveal, I like cats meself.
You've got a nice channel and layout coming, thanks for sharing. I prefer the coved corners personally, as the corners are so hard to light and the sharp corner tends to stand out, especially with photo backdrops. I second the previous comment around cassette staging/fiddle capability, I think the European modelers have really figured out operations of small layouts. Even with my multideck layout I've opted for staging that can be used as a fiddle with much of the rolling stock storage being in drawers below. The magnets are spectacular too, I'm a big fan for so many uses, from liftouts to turnout operation (using reed switches) as well as considering DCCConcepts PowerBase magnetic system on my toughest grade and helixes. Good work tho.
Hi, I really like what you two are doing (I found your channel just today). I have a suggestion: The "extension" (staging) in the closet could be done with cassettes (like the british often use) that hold the cars or complete trains and can be interchanged easily. This way you can get almost unlimited staging. And when you use independent cassettes for cars and engines you can use the closet for running around a train or turning an engine.
Thanks, I see the book is possible to buy on Amazon, I look forward to seeing further progress with the train project, I try as best I can to exploit the little space I have, I will take to post video later. Roy
Just a suggestion but you should make the top facia the same shape as the lower level (curve around not 90 degree in the corner) . But it does look great ...
So glad you took the background curve out! Here's Johnny! Cracked me up too!! What sort of heights are the two layout platforms? Will it not be difficult to access the upper layout?
This looks fantastic. One question - how many times have you hit your forehead on the facia when you lean in to do work? I had a similar styled layout in the works several years ago and was constantly hitting my head on the upper facia. I've since moved and had to dismantle it, but plan something similar in the new house. Thanks for sharing your work.
Hey, like what you do, I also build something similar. Can you tell how you planned the train tracks? The challenge for me is to utilize the space as much as possible without it being crowded with train tracks, having to be space for landscapes and buildings, should have been interesting to know what you have planned together, I need some ideas.
One of my favorite book is by Lance Mindheim called How To Design A Small Switching Layout. It will share how to balance the look of realistic railroad in small spaces. One of his ideas is set up scenery areas so you don't overload your scene with just tracks and more tracks.
Do you get any light bleeding through the top of the fascia on the ceiling by using the magnets? I'm going for the same look on my layout and was concerned about a little gap between the fascia and benchwork from the magnets, causing light to bleed on the ceiling? Love the video updates, keep them coming.
Sean Gaston I need stronger magnets. But there is a slight light leak if I hold my hand on the top. Because of the distance to my ceiling I do not see it. One day I will have a layout on top too and I can build the scenery to the edge and not have any light leak.
I'm getting ready to do this exact same thing. I'm planning on inlaying the magnets into the fascia. Do you think using more cabinet magnets would do the trick?
Sean Gaston yes that may work. I got some really strong ceramic magnets at harbor freight that I’m gonna try next. The cabinet magnets hold but if I bump my head into the fascia board and knock it off one magnet it all comes down.
WTF dude? You had a great layout series going and then you just stopped and started doing boring drove videos that no one cares about. So what happened? The wife dump you for another guy and take the kid? Or did you dump her for another guy and she kept the kid? Did the kid get sick of trains and tear it all out? Something happened.....hmmm...

Smart idea, the removable fascia board! Definitely will put that one on the hard drive.
Really nice modular bench-work. Thumbs up.

Hope you finished!!! Life obstacles are difficult.
Looking forward to the next updates. Nice job.
Awesome work you guys, it's great to work together on such a project. Keep the vids coming.

Looks great, would love to see an update I have a shelf layout starting in my spare room it's 10 x 10 so I'm liking how you are making yours
Nice work you guys.
Very Cool! Thanks for sharing
Updates? Would love to see some trains running.
So, they both liked DAD’S layout 4 years ago and you were making great progress and nice videos. What happened?

That is still a possibility. Perhaps when I install the upper layout in the future that will work best. Great idea!
Hi nice job guys! Do you have more of the layout to show us? Thanks.
Keep em coming
Hope all is well, do you guys have any updates?

did the layout get finish ?

O update anymore?
