  • In this video, you'll be looking over my shoulder as I warp and weave 1/2, 2/1, and point twill on my Beka rigid heddle looms.
There is no sound in this video. So turn on some music and sit back and watch the process from start to finish ;-)
This video is a supplement to Lesson 7 - Weaving on 3 shafts

So I have a question. Is the Beka's beginner loom difficult to Warp? I was wondering if the more advanced looms are easier to Warp? I would be a beginner on this type of loom. I already weave on a tapestry Loom. Thank you so much love your video!

The more advanced looms will teach you the skills that you need to be able to warp other types of loom. I started out with an Ashford SampleIt 10 and then I went on two the Beka 24. I actually struggled with learning to use the beka 10 (the beginner's) as it is quite different than the other two. I use and sell the 4' version for making bands and sampling. It is narrow enough that You don't run into as many tensioning issues even without adding paper to the back beam/block. Honestly, I would suggest the Ashford SampleIt 10 It is a great all-around little loom. If you want to go bigger but want to have a very flexible portable loom that doesn't take up a lot of space when not in use, the Bekas are great bare-bones looms. But once you use the Ashford, you may get bitten and just want to get a bigger version ;-) Hope that helps!

@@AmyDMcKnight hello! One more question...is a shed stick needed on a heddle loom?

@@jeweltone1546 A shed stick to use for warping? No, not essential as rigid heddles are often/usually direct warped so the threads don't get mixed up - in indirect warping the shed sticks mark the cross in the threads so they stay in order.
A shed stick to use as a pick-up stick for doing patterns other than plain weave - very possibly.
I agree with Amy about the SampleIt loom and they now come with a built in double heddle block (although you do need to buy the second heddle as an extra if you want that option). Ashford have very good instructional videos on their website showing how to warp their looms and most of what they say is also transferable to other makes too.
