2007 Nissan Murano: replaced 6 plugs and the three ignition coils under the intake manifold. All was great. 350 miles later I threw a p0420. Turned out that the throttle body hoses after the MAF sensor and right on the throttle intake had pulled off. Mostly because the accordian hose is so old it is rigid. This brings air in after the MAF and screws up the air mix. Remounted that better (not that easy with old rubber). Code is gone, acceleration is back on point. Will update if codes come back. This was about a 10 minute fix that took about an hour due to the old hoses.
If you get the p0420 code in bank one, that is the upstream oxygen sensor, I see in the video you hooked up a Fowler to the downstream oxygen sensor. So would I hook up the Fowler upstream or downstream to fix the p0420 bank 1 issue?
Hello, Nonda. I have a 2014 Infiniti Q50 which occasionally “misfires” while idling and sometimes while accelerating. I have the p0420 code and have tried using two bottles of cataclean and it’s still doing it. Replaced the spark plugs and still no changes. Please help 🙏🏾
If you haven’t found the problem yet then try checking your spark plugs & replace your coils. That will most likely make your car misfire than a dirty catalytic converter
If you have already done the spark plugs then you probably have a bad ignition coil. I had this issue on my Murano a few years ago, one of the cylinders was not firing
Hi Irma, failed catalytic converter often triggers this code. However, it is better to check for other potential causes. Begin with verifying if there's any other code present along with P0420 by using the ZUS Smart Vehicle Health Monitor Mini. Check for leaks and check the voltage reading of the downstream O2 sensor.
these 3 tips...at least #1 & #3 make more sense than anything anyone else has told me.
Thanks! @sassylrhg

Was your Nissan having trouble accelerating past 2000rpm? Mine is having that issue with p0420 code
I replaced the catatlytic comverter and both 02 sensors it still sets the po420 code
Could be a misfire, due to spark plugs or a leak somewhere

Depends if it’s bank 1 sensor 1 or 2.
very nice thank you
We're glad to be of help. Stay safe always, Dobby!
I can't find the same bottle of catalytic converter cleaner for sale, is there a substitute?
My car has exactly the same problem, just P0420.
Is it the upstream or down stream o2 sensor?
Down

HI Jonathan, is there any other code that registers along with this code?

Did your suv jerks when you pressed gas?

@kapjthedon5924 yeah he said he already did the spark plugs so I'd say ignition coil is bad
Thank you however my car was running I parked my car last night it won't start and p0420 code is what I got
Hi Irma, please provide us with your vehicle's year, make and model for us to address your concern accurately.
I have a 2002 Nissan Altima

If it won't start its either a dead battery or problem with ignition system
