I’m so glad you spoke out about Temu and other cheap fashion. It’s everywhere. If it’s cheap, why is it so cheap.
Another informative video that confirms how I’m feeling these days about what I’m purchasing. I’m inspired to go thru my closet!
I agree to everything you have stated. In my mature years, I no longer want to wear things that don’t give me joy. Material matters.
I had to hit the pause at 7:01. I cannot agree with you more when you said, somebody somewhere is paying for that. Thank you for pointing that out. I think we should all stop and think about that before we purchase things. Now, back to the video 😊
Lines in my linen, creases in my cottons and grooves in my gauzes--I’m happy.
Agree with most of what you said. I do like to mix in good vintage costume jewelry though😉
I found this channel by doing a search for quiet luxury for plus size. I had just received a promotion at work and wanted to revamp my wardrobe so I could present more professionally. You have helped me find some inspiration. I still was following the rule of wearing bold prints to hide the tummy. Thank you for the ideas.
Congratulations on the promotion! I'm so glad I can be of help. 😃
I refuse to buy from the fast Chinese fashion anymore as like you said… “someone is paying for those cheap prices somewhere” and you know it’s the workers that are not getting paid a liveable wage!
I’d much rather have quality clothing over quantity clothing anyway!
I recently saw a video from another UA-cam creator who linked a list of some fashion brands that contribute to that type of labour…
And some of them are notable fashion brands…☹️😞
I am also a plus size woman (3×) and I stumbled over your channel, I love it, I am watching every video I can find. Thank you for your time and energy into your videos.
So excited to find a plus size, apple shaped stylist!! I would love to see hauls/ideas from Universal Standard, Wool&, & Madewell. I am a teacher so my budget is tight but I want to start investing in quality pieces that I can wear for more than 1 year. I'd also love to hear your thoughts on dressing/styling using "color analysis" or "seasonal color palette."
Noted! Thank you so much for your suggestions!
I just discovered your videos when searching for suggestions on plus size linen pants for summer. Excellent content! ❤
I was really inspired by some of your bright colors and just your personal style in general. It's great to wear classics, and I am also uncomfortable in polyester (it's not bad, just hot), but I like the way you have fun with fashion and dare to try trends. Don't ever lose your pizazz!
I’m in the process of phasing out costume jewelry now and pretty much agree with you on everything.❤
Thank you so much for this vlog. I like to think that many have the same issue with clothing in Uk.
All the best. Rhian x
Really agree on natural fabrics. They are often better quality and also last longer (if properly cared for), but they are also more comfortable. This is especially important in summer when one is warm and easily sweaty.
Thank you for your great content. I am interested to see your Fall/Winter hauls in natural fibers because those seasons are the longest for me and I have the most clothing in this type. You are an awesome stylist even beyond the plus size category.
Aww! Thank you! 😃. And I can't wait for Fall!!
Agree 💯! I’ve been working on my personal style as well and purging the stuff that just doesn’t fit. I am also more aligned to minimalism. I’m still working through it but I’m headed in the right direction. I started working on my jewelry last fall. Loved this video!! ❤❤
I agree with almost everything you said and have noticed that I have been heading toward more natural fabrics, as well. I do still wear color, but it is more muted than the big brights I used to love. For church I am ditching the slacks unless they go with a blazer and top/blouse that makes a great outfit. I like dresses and blazers a lot! And I’m really coming to love the classics!
REALLY enjoyed this video!!!
Haha you had me at natural fibers! Every thing you said I agree with. Thank you
Congrats on 10k!!!! 🎉
Thank you! 😃
This was an interesting video. I started out in my career and fashion selections using natural fibers and well cut garments. As I got older, I started adding bold prints and florals and even later added synthetics here and there. I'm not a fan of synthetic material, though I do appreciate some spandex in certain garments to give stretch. I am now moving back toward natural fibers in neutral tones and trying to get rid of my patterned items. I can't believe how much pattern I own, and I came to realize I had nothing to wear since they didn't go together, lol. These days, I look for solid pieces for the most part unless it is classic stripes.
I'm so there with you, it's exactly how I feel these days! 😉
Absolutely your best video yet, and I love them all! Yes, natural fibers all the way! I am doing the same, weeding out synthetics and purchasing only natural fibers. They are more comfortable and more durable. My best jewellery is vintage, mainly silver and turquoise from the Southwest. The quality pieces in my closet from LL Bean, Talbots, and even Coldwater Creek have lasted for years, and are never really out of style because they are not trendy. Anyway, anything is "stylish" with the right accessories and the right attitude! Thank you again for this great video, Oralia!
Exactly! 🙌🏼
Congratulations on 11k! You are the best!!
Thank you so much, my friend!! 😃💕
You are great and give us a lot of Inspiration Thank you 😊
Aww! I'm so glad you think so! 🙈💕
Thank you for the comment on temu, I felt that way too. I like the small floral or gentle plaids. I tend to wear darker skirts and pants. Maybe prints on top or as dresses. Helps to hide the tiny stains I attract and can't always get out. I usually do wear dresses or skirts. I am working on adding only shoes and boots that are good for my feet and not super frumpy. Bad feet/ankles and swelling makes most of the really cute ones not for me. Thanks for all your tips.
Congratulations. I always look forward to watching your videos. The research and styles you find are appreciated. I’ve always noticed how natural fibers fall and feel on my body.
Thank you! There's nothing like them with the exception being pure wool. Itchy! 😆
I’m so proud of you! Congratulations! I’ve missed talking to you. We need to catch up.
I love your name. When I was little in the early 60s, I knew an Oralia, in Pa. We lost touch when we moved away in 65.
Thank you! I can count on two hands the number of Oralia's I've met. 😉
Great points! And may I just say that red lipstick looks AMAZING on you! ❤😊
Thank you!
Do you have a vid on your hair? I really love your cut.
Bravo. Your style has noticeably changed and you do look good. I dislike fast fashion so much poly and cheap fabrics.
Great video! Buying fewer things of better quality is the way to go in more than just clothing. I look for the natural fibers but almost impossible to avoid I certain areas - work out gear, swimsuits, bras. I travel a lot so I will sometimes allow a small percentage of synthetic fiber as it can provide benefits of stretch, wrinkle release, and quick drying.
I think that's a great way to balance it. 👍🏽
I have always loved linen, silk and cotton. I don’t wear much costume jewelry and even though I prefer gold, I have started wearing sterling silver jewelry as well. I also prefer leather bags instead of “faux leather” ones. Same goes for footwear. I agree that the colorful eyeshadows are beautiful on others…it’s just not my style. I do love bold lips and nails occasionally though. Btw…I am new to your channel and I am really enjoying it.
Your hair looks very pretty. Tfs🫶🏾
Oh and I forgot to add wool to the list!
Thank you and welcome! 👋🏼 I'm glad you're enjoying my videos! 😃
I did this also but discovered that hiking camping clothing wick away sweat and rain so I have kept some of those I have to many clothes cause I fluctuate in weight I tossed them originally but now I just keep cause it’s real bad since menopause, I buy mostly secondhand , love your channel
I love your style and Grace and also try and only purchase quality over quantity. Even though I love all the neutrals on you, I am a big colors gal. I am so attracted to pinks, blues in a variety of shades. When I go in a store I am always heading to the colors. I have learned, since watching your videos to give neutrals a chance. I think because my skin tone is fair, I feel like color brightens me up. I am alot more picky with what I purchase now and insistent on natural fabrics and stay away from polyester.
I encourage you to wear as much color as you want! If it lights you up, literally and figuratively, it's perfect. 😉
Can you make a thrifting video, they have lots of good quality clothes.👍
I love the look in the video 🎉
Thank you!
I often find Pima cotton tees at Walmart for less than $10. I'm a big label reader and only go for natural fabric content, as well.
Nice, I'll have to check them out! Thank you for sharing. 👍🏽
I am new, you came up on my feed,❤.
I appreciate your insight, it is helpful
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 😃
I'm the opposite of you when it comes to jewelry. I've long collected vintage costume jewelry-- from old bakelite and marcasite to
third world crafts. But it is a signature so I don't worry about the tiny jewelry trends.
I would love to have a Bakelite piece! There’s something to be said for the occasional statement piece.
Congratulations your content is very good 😊
Hi Oralia. Can you recommend good rental places for formal clothing?
Rent the Runway is my go to.
You look pretty in floral colors.
Would you do a feature on Wool& and the 100 day dress
This is the first time I've heard you say you are a personal stylist. That's funny, because as I've watched many of your videos, I was thinking you'd be great at that!!!
Lol! Thanks. 😃
💯 % agree on Temu and Shein ...what impact does the cheap materials have on our health?
Yep. SMH
And the “slave labor” forced to mass produce the items.
I'm a new subscriber i love your content
Welcome! 👋🏼
Could you please tell me what kind of steamer you use for clothes? Thank you 😊
Sure! It's the HiLife hand held steamer: bit.ly/3r7arrD 😉
Can you please begin a series where you educate us on quality clothing ? Fabric, seaming, country of origin ?
I absolutely can, thank you for the suggestion!
@@Oralia_Martinez yay 💕 thank you for educating us 🙏🏽💕
I’m probably not your target audience, but I like your content. Your advice crosses sizes and so does your style. I also like you a lot more than the flaquitas out there giving advice.
Aww! Thank you!! 🙈💕
I only buy natural fibers because I have eczema that makes synthetic fibers very unpleasant. I also cannot stand synthetic fibers in hot weather- it’s like being zipped into a plastic garbage bag. I told BloomChic their use of predominantly synthetic fibers is a deal killer for me. I buy mostly 100% cotton tops or cotton/polyester blends that I can comfortably wear. Denim jeans and capris along with cotton pants and joggers are what is in my wardrobe.
Hello, you made me think about so much, thank you! Quality over quantity, which brings me to this question. Have you tried Spanx clothing? I want to try their pants.
I have and I find them a bit constrictive - which isn't a bad thing really. I would advise you go up a size though, because they do run small. 😉
Have you had your colors done? I had mine done 20 years ago and I always wear colors that look best to my skin.
No, but I pretty much know that saturated brights and jewel tones look best because of the high contrast between my hair and skin. Do I wear those colors? Sometimes, lol. 😆
Lol I was stunned when you said the WORD S
S- hitty lol
2 thumbs up :)
It’s hard to find non-synthetic lingerie.
It would mean buying clothes in person, not online.
Bold flowers in bright colors are difficult for petite women to wear. I do like ditsy flowers although, I prefer blues and purples in non- bright colors.
No synthetics, check. They don't hold up and put microplastics right into the water every time you wash them. High quality, check. This is a lot harder to find. Sometimes you need to be able to replace a button or hem a pair of slacks. Cheap low quality clothing is made off the backs and labor of others. Going with colors and patterns that make you feel good. Check. Leave the one-hit-wonders on the hanger and rent your special occasion wardrobe, check. Keep the trends to a minimum, check. Paired down make up, check. Structured bags are the bomb! Oh my goodness, I gave up pencil skirts a few years back. Our bodies change as we age so that is a thing. I am also plus size petite and live in the NW. While we have different styles, I love your advice.
I am super struggling with the conservative/tailored style and really bold prints/stripes/color. I actually feel really comfortable in both styles, but I think my look is very inconsistant. As a career consultant I know the importance of consitancy in a personal brand. Not sure of what to do just yet.
You could try incorporating one bold piece with the more tailored pieces to bring a bit of balance. Or get bold pieces in classic tailored cuts and silhouettes. 😉
Have you thought of maybe doing wardrobe “modules” for different situations, for example work clothes more conservative and non-work things could be your more bold style. This way you get to wear both regularly. And of course some things could be used for both wardrobes, such as a jacket or a scarf or a pair of shoes.

Or maybe go for a conservative piece of clothing but in a colour that pops or a pattern.
Ditching some polyester tops as we speak. (doing that before this video ... lol). I ignore all things Temu.
I agree about the super cheap things. Someone certainly is paying the price and I think it’s those poor workers and our planet.
I see Selena Gomez's face in you ❤
Regarding Shein etc - I always wonder why the more expensive shops are more expensive? I guess (and its just a guess) that pretty much all of them are having their products made in the same areas, with the same methods, same work enviroment, some times even using the same factories etc? And I am pretty sure that the environment, the production line workers and so on are not benefiting from the higher sales prices? But I hope that I am wrong.
Like Amazon, HM, ZARA, Mango, Dior, Tommy Hillfiger etc etc - do we know how much they pay their workers in asia, how well thier factories recycle and dont emit polution etc? Or is it that simple - Higher prices = better conditions all over? And how do I as a consumer find out on my own? Its a jungle imo 😳
It's tricky, especially for plus size. Look for small batch, independent brands that provide transparency. Reformation, Universal Standard are good options. Also Sezane carries extended sizing; they're on my list to try out to see what that means, exactly. 😉
It used to be that's all you could get in plus sized, were low quality fabrics!!
What is dopamine?
What kind of jewelry is she talking about? Did she say Bermae or Vermay? I don’t know what that is
Vermeil. I had to google it. Silver coated with a thick layer of gold. Different to gold plated.
Aha! I had the same question. Thanks
Thank you. We need your help. What are your thoughts on knee length denim skirts? My 27 y o sun says ….nay.
Honestly, I think it will definitely work. It may not be as trendy as a maxi denim skirt but it's a classic that's never really out of style. 😉
@@Oralia_Martinez Thanks, finally someone sees the practicality 🥰 Love, love, love your channel I have few friends watching.
My style is also changed. I’ve become more interested in simple, sleek chic designs on my body. Like long black tank cotton maxi dresses for the summer cotton linen shirts, super long cotton shirts dresses , linen jumpsuits, but I still keep some vibrant colors like green and pink’s and some gold around just to add a touch of color, but mostly I wear a black bases with some colorful accent as accessories .
How do you feel about florals on pants?
Maurices and now items on the tv shopping are just cheap lately. mary ann
You have too many rules just wear what you want and have fun.
