Mine was on its death bed looking like a string of green raisins. When I pulled it out I noticed its roots were completely dedicates. I removed the dead matter and a few lower pearls. Stuck the stem in water and all the pearls came back to life within 2 days. I'm anxiously awaiting roots. Fingers crossed. I have new pearls, but no new roots yet. I threw a broken stem of Pilea Depressa in there and the thing is growing roots like gangbusters.
I loved this video and I’m excited to try this! I’m so sad I can’t keep them alive! I love your hair and your peppy personality! I hope you have lots more videos. I’m subscribed! 😃
Thanks for this video. I believe I may have saved my string of pearls, as...my new 8" pot of them were dying. I frantically did what you did, plus put others in my homemade lite airy African violet soil. And I put them in a ziplock. But back to the water version, you may like this...I filled my jar full to the top, covered it with saran wrap, put the screw lid on to keep it taught, cut teeny holes for each strand to go into the water, then it keeps the berries out of the water. I removed the lower berries to have a few nodes in the water for roots. So, did I do bad by putting the jars of berries in a ziplock? I think you may have left yours in the air? I really tried to save mine. I pre removed the icky berries too.
I repot. Make sure healthy soil and place it all on the soil to regrow. Nice sunny morning spot, and water infrequently. It’ll be slow but the bottom string will grow roots into the soil 🙌🏼 (Sorry it’s a bit of a late reply 😅)
Oh, dang, I see this is an older video. Oh well, I'm glad to know that water was the way to go. I have hope. But I wish I knew if the zip lock was right or not.
Hey there, I know this is a little late in reply, but here is my tip - let the soil completely dry out. Is there a hole in the bottom of the pot so the water can drain out? If not best to ‘pour’ out from the top. If the soil is too wet, I would consider repotting it with new dry soil. It’s winter now so they really don’t want to be sitting in water. 🥶
Both will work. If you put the stems in they will grow roots in a couple of weeks 😍 Clear off a couple of the pearls so you have a long enough stem to put in the water.
You have to remove a few, yes. You shouldn't have any of the pearls in the water or else they will rot. If you want more information on this process, it's called propagation and is actually a way to essentially clone your plant.
I found this video to make sure it's like the string of dolphins since I managed to revive them from the death bed and they are very similar. I'm glad I found this for reassurance. I ordered mine from Lowe's online and attempted to neglect but did butt water them since they were so dry and knocked around in a box for a week. I noticed them starting to shrivel the other day and was hoping if I left it alone it would come back but the problem seemed to be worse. I was going to repot in a smaller one since the pot it originally came in was too spacious and they like being snug when I realized that they had root rot severely! I cut above the rot and removed the bottom shriveled pearls and placed in a jar to try to water propagate. Now I'm excited knowing that within a week they should all have roots. And be a healthier plant again 😍
@@paulinegeary4798 fertilizer will help with this. "Plant Food" is the name of the stuff I use. Manure or Blood and bone helps with "foliage" but a tad harder to add this to a string of pearls pot, unless you use a liquid version of blood and bone.
Hi Pao, to me that sounds like you have either mealy bugs or aphids. I generally use "Scale gun" you spray so it's dripping off the pearls, after 20 mins I hose off the substance and try to wash off any bugs with it. I would then give it a bit of plant food next water cycle, and once dry sprinkle some Ant Killa (the brand) over the soil. The Ant killa will stop ants bringing mealy bugs back to the plant. Hope this helps!
You’ve given me hope! I got mine a month ago and it’s nearly dead 😫 so going to try leaving half and putting half in water and see what happens!
I’m glad I can help. Any improvements yet? 😬

Very interesting video Sally, and well presented too. Yea your hair too looks great. Greetings from Bangalore. Stop by and support.
Your videos are so fun to watch ❤️😁
Love your earrings! Thanks tip
Wow, that's not intuitive that putting them in water brings them back to life. But it works! Thanks for the tip.
What do you do with a dark, shriveled one that has healthy growth above and below!

How long does it take to root in water?

Thank you so much for this video! I have a SOP currently dying & I wasn’t sure if putting it in water would kill it or not. Let’s see what happens!🤞🏼
Glad I could help! Good luck 🤞🏼🤞🏼
Can we grow string of pearls in just water.

@@sallypennysucculents1650 thank you. Does it work with stems without leaves as well?

How do I get my string of pearls to have nice plump beads on them instead of small ones?

the stings of my pearls are sticky.. what does that mean!!
That’s normal :)
