- "The Green Mile" is a film released in 1999, based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King.
The movie tells the story set in a Louisiana state prison during the 1930s. The protagonist, Paul Edgecomb, is a prison guard responsible for executing death row inmates and serves as a spiritual pillar within the prison.
The central focus of the story is a prisoner named John Coffey. John is a physically imposing and immensely strong African American man who has been sentenced to death for the alleged murder of two young girls. However, Paul gradually discovers that John possesses miraculous healing abilities and supernatural powers.
As the story unfolds, Paul begins to doubt John's guilt and learns about his true identity and the suffering he endures. Paul and the other guards face moral and ethical dilemmas as they must decide whether to expose the truth, all while dealing with the pressures of the prison system and societal norms.
"The Green Mile" delves deep into themes of humanity, justice, forgiveness, and the way people treat one another. The film presents emotionally charged interactions and internal struggles among its characters, while also examining issues of injustice and prejudice in society.
This movie has been widely praised for its poignant storytelling, outstanding performances, and its exploration of the complexities of human nature. It encompasses profound themes and unforgettable scenes, earning its status as a classic that resonates with audiences and has been frequently referenced and quoted.
The guy that played John Coffey is Michael Clark Duncan, who sadly passed away a few years ago. RIP
Not a few he passed almost a decade or longer ago

Especially the scene where Tom Hanks brought John Coffey the biscuits his wife made for him as a thank you gift, and Edwioure said “ Ohhh John, I can smell that from all the way over here, I surely can..” and John asks Tom Hanks if he could share some of the biscuits, which Tom Hanks replied “ It’s yours John, you can do whatever you please.” And John Coffey says with a childish grin “ Here, this is for Dale, and Mr.Jingles (Dales mouse).

I'm almost 60 years old now. This ranks in the top 10 movies of my lifetime. Never seen such a beautifully complex story line. This is exactly how humanity would treat an angelic being. No understanding just judgment based on color or circumstance. I will tell ya this though. If I was one of the 4 guards, I would've quickly made up the story that wild bill told Percy he killed the girls and Percy lost his mind and shot him. I would've lied my face off to make sure that angel of a being went free.

My eyes welled up and tears rolled down my cheeks as I sniffed and stifled a silent sob towards the recap's ending. But STILL so very different than when I watched the actual movie: boohooing and letting it all hang out, snots and all 😭

I didn't watch the movie again because it will only make me cry. Now watching this recap, it put me in tears once more. Stephen King is brilliant with his works. This was far from what he usually do with the horror themes. :(
This is so sad and beautiful ... the angel is a kind hearted giant and it was sad to see him die:(
This film is timeless and priceless 🙏
Imagine witnessing multiple miracles from a man and still deciding to kill him. Doesn't make any sense.
John asked then to do it they told him they cab unlock the cell and let him go and he said no he wants it to end
They offered to let the man go but the guy didnt want to. He was tired, he kept saying it.

🥺😢 This was recounted beautifully. Way back when, I either I watched the whole movie or watched half heartedly, and my immature mind interpreted it differently at the time.
When I first watched the movie I was convinced it was a true life story, then I researched and discovered it wasn't. Very good story and acting.
Only Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit Christians can do this type of work. The flies represent demons and evil angel spirits.
The Holy Spirit simply commands and the healing happens. Jesus and Christians never have to kiss in order to heal.
How is it possible that one actor has possibly 3 of the top ten movies ever.Tom Hanks.Castaway,Forest Gump, and the green mile.Tbh his only rivals are Denzel or Robert De Niro.
You are so right it isn't funny. Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington aren't a list celebrities...they have their own tier. They are the actors that almost always win their films a nod from the Academy. Only one I disagree with is Robert De Nero. De Nero will nail any tough guy or mob type movie but I've never liked him in anything else. Had you said Robert Duval who still holds the Guinness world record for most versatile actor in the world, then you would have been firing on all cylinders. 😉
@@robertstewart1223 I say Robert due to longevity not greatness necessarily. I kinda wanna add Morgan Freeman as well but he is not one class of Tom and Denzel.
How can you have such gift n still have a miserable life.😢
Lol that’s just illusion for he as the power doesn’t mean he would be reach

"Taking advantage of the darkness" is crazy.
Based on a story by Stephen King.
But this one is NOT a horror film
Watched this movie when it came out and revisited it last night. Such a good movie, John didn’t deserve to die. But he was fed up with the hatred in the world.

No matter how many times I watch this movie I cry every time. Rest in peace Michael Clarke Duncan, you ARE an angel now
I had read the book first, and then seen this movie. I gotta say, this is one of the best movies ever made. Definitely in top 15 of all time. I cried when I read the book, felt uneasy for days to come. I relived it all again with this video. It is a true depiction of how today's world would fail to understand the angel. I wish I were in the story so I could do something about things in it and save him... I wish... Stephen King, you are a legend.
I gotta read King’s novel now. Must be a masterpiece, rich in symbolism and metaphors.

Spoiler alert for those who haven’t seen it, It wasn’t a mistake, Paul knew John was innocent by the end and wanted to let him escape and see how far he could get, but John refused, he wanted to die despite being innocent because he was tired of feeling all the pain in the world.

It's not just one of the best movie of all time. It is also based on one of the best Novel of all times.
I never saw this full movie but it came on TV once when I was little and it traumatized me because all I knew was that the black man was a nice man and that he was gonna die by electric chair, but he was so nice. I still have never seen the full movie but I know enough about it to know how it goes, plus I’ve seen the ending. That poor man didn’t deserve death, and yet he was killed due to racism and the whole crowd, the whole prison knew it was wrong but they couldn’t do anything about it. It made me so upset as a kid and it still makes me upset today and I saw it when I was like 6
This movie made me cry a few times 😂😂❤ it was absolutely beautiful

Thank you so much❤❤❤❤ anyone watching this in 2024?
movie made me cry. recap me me cry. good job man. you made sure to really nail the details in it.
I love this movie The Green Mile was a fantastic film.
Making reference from the movie - Racism was like chards of glass in his head (John Coffee), the hatred of men was too painful. Far worse than the electric chair. Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) did pay a price for his actions, for a long time after.
I still cry when I see this movie 😢😢 Michael Clark Duncan is a homeboy we both grew up on the Westside of Chicago & my youngest daughter attended the same high school as he did John Marshall High School. He was one of my FAVORITE actors and I am still saddened by his death. 🙏🏽😢🙏🏽💔🙏🏽
FYI, this movie is based off Stephen King's book. Also, Shawshank Redemption, another movie that's considered one of the greatest of all time, is also based off King's book, and both movies are a very faithful reproduction of the books.
Many people know Stephen King only as a horror writer, but that is incredibly reductive. He is a master of utilizing the bizarre and grotesque to convey deeper beauty.
Bro that was so touching SHARE THIS WITH EVERYONE!!!! I CRIED SO HARD, SHARE THIS TO NON-BELIEVERS SPREAD THE GOSPEL AND GOD WILL LET YOU HAVE ETERNAL LIFE

They didn't mistakenly kill John.
John wanted to die.
It's not a curse. It's just the end result of John's powers, extended life.
One of the best Tom Hanks' movie!
What’s crazy is that they had full evidence that could’ve prevent the execution. Bring a dead animal & let him present his gift in court. Man what

Top 10 movie in my opinion
That was one of my mother's favorite movie. When i watched it with her and the rest of the family, i loved it too. (but i hate the "angel sent by Christ" stuff. It does not fit with a prison movie)
Great movie but where did you get 'Prison guard mistakenly kills angel, receives most painful curse on earth' ??
An amazing movie
I first saw this movie when I was eleven. I vividly remember I was coloring a build-a-bear cardboard box on the wooden floors, and my parents put it on it watch. by the end of the movie, I had tears streaming down my face. I was saddened for a bit of time post-watch, even as a kid. I later bought and read the book. I highly recommend this movie to anyone and everyone. I think there is a lot modern day society can learn from it still.
Please what's the title of the movie and the book?
“The Green Mile” is the name for both the book (which came first) and the movie. The book is by Stephen King!
The fact this is loosely based off of a real story is tragic
More i think about it,paul edgecomb is the most spineless selfish hypocrite in this movie. He and his friends received / benefitted from the blessings of the angel, but were too selfish to save the angel. They are worthy of getting an all expenses paid visit from pinhead
It's a wonderful movie, curse of long life
