  • Today I go over why so many people dislike the Ford EcoSport (IN THE US). It is the smallest and cheapest vehicle in their 2021 lineup, and you certainly notice it. Not everything is bad though, I also go over why someone might want a vehicle like this.
P.S. You can get a similarly spec'd Escape (which is a 10x better vehicle) for about $2k more...
    MSRP: $25,090
    Engine: 1.0 EcoBoost 3-Cylinder (123hp, 125tq)
    Rating: 2/10

I do forget sometimes that it has a swing gate trunk door, but it does work in Florida where I live where you rarely have to parallel park and the little SUV is so easy to park, but the size is perfect for me and I an SE 2020 trim in the 1.0 engine. No Blind Spot Information System, but blindspot mirrors from the factory. No Factory Navigation, so I use my phone since I have an IPhone 11. It was previously a rental in smoke metallic with only 2182 miles only when I got it on May 10, 2020. It was rarely used. The gas mileage could be better compared to other SUV's, but it gets me from point A to B and that's all that matters, but now that I reset the trip odometer and the MPG odometer, I'm getting 27 MPG on average since it said 22 before and I knew I had to drive better and it was wrong. Right on par with MPG sticker price MPG. Its 29 in the highway and 27 in the city or an average of 28 miles per gallon according to the window sticker. I put gas recently and I get around 300 miles with a single tank as of now.

The swing gate is perfect for my husband. He had brain surgery and it takes years for the skull to completely heal. He had bumped his head when leaning in to lift something from he hatchback we owned. As for the tire repair kit they give with the car, please let your mechanic know that you put that flat fixer spray junk in your tire. That stuff can be dangerous for the mechanic unless he/she is aware its in it.

Well let me say I just brought one 2018 sea dark burgundy. The guy in the video is absolutely right about the transmission if you floor it and don’t understand the mechanics of this car you will think you have a tranny issue. I took mines back and they had to explain that to me. I said ok and I’m still driving it. What get me about the post I’m replying to is he said “20 years later they will still be n the road.” That’s 🔑 and that’s all I care about longevity and durability. @@jacobrzeszewski6527 Yes, the 1.0 front drive engine is pretty bad. Ford's doing a recall on them. The 2.0 4WD version is much better. Chain drive, not belt, and the drivetrain is sturdy, too. I would only get the 2.0 engine in this car.

It's a better deal than my 2010 focus. My car has no bluetooth, no screen, less legroom, no seat cushioning, manual seats, no cruise control or steering wheel buttons for that matter... it's not awd (only fwd) and its 0-60 is 2 SECONDS SLOWER! Plus, it cost $17,000 in 2010 ($23,000 today). The ecosport is an incredible deal.

I don’t think it’s ugly, I like it. and the swing door is great for a short person; and I don’t mind it either. It’s got enough power for me; and I’ve had mine to 70mph and it rides great. The tranny is slow to shift up (especially the first drive of the day: and that’s “taking it easy”); but they are an improvement over the lemon focus double clutch train wreck. I’m getting 33.7 mpg as long as I’m alone. Most of the new ones do have high mileage bc FORD OKed them for loaners (I think the employees drove them almost exclusively: another bad idea). But I do like mine and plan to keep it (as long as it’s under warranty). Also they don’t scrape on high driveways, potholes, and they run right over debris in the road without a scrape.

We have this as a rental vehicle while ours is being fixed. The styling is nice. Lot better than some cars that are so boring you yawn when you get in.
As far as size thats YOUR problem not Ford's, Don't go hating on a car because it's too small. Move on to other cars that are larger.
The only thing that threw us for a loop is where the swing gate location is; very odd placement for a door latch.
As far as legroom, it's a small car if your tall or a larger person this car might not be for you. Fit the car to the person.
Engine it's a less expensive car, dont expect a turbo charged or 6 cylinder car. It's built for the emissions and minimum mpg thats its suppose to achieve.
Don't mash the gas pedal to the floor to achieve power and the MPG is actually reasonable.
For those of us who dont care for all the bells and whistles this is fine. You're not going to get them in a 20,000-25,000 car anyways.
Fit and finish - what you expecting for the price?

I've driven my 2020 "4WD" "Echo-Sport" S for a year now. Starting with the interior I'd have to say it has a really good interior. Soft touch dash and good gauges and switch gear. Seat are comfortable as well. Id like for auto makers to ditch the center divider compartments and go with a column shifter or push buttons. I like to have more leg room for my drive leg. But the Ecosport is decent in that regard. My standard radio glitches alot and freezes on blank screen. I have to shift into reverse and then drive again to get it to reappear. Annoying. Ride comfort and driveability are very good. Acceleration is decent. On the outside the standard S rims are actually really good and the fit and finish was excellent for a small SUV. The Ecosport runs well and I get 27 mpg most of the time. Being able to buy it for under 20k was great seeing hat we didn't need a larger vehicle.

I have the 2020 SES AWD, and have literally no complaints. I'm sure the 1l 3-banger is a disappointment, which is why I insisted on the 2l 4-banger. It gets up to speed just fine, so long as you're not looking to impress someone with a throaty roar and treadmarks. NOTE: I was driving a 2022 Challenger as a rental before I bought this EcoSport, and didn't feel like I was being cheated of anything. I get what you mean about the seats, but I guess my ass likes a bit of firm support, because I'm all good in that department. You noted that the trunk isn't level with the folded down seats - there are ledges set in the two corners behind the seats to insert the trunk flooring panel which makes them just a hair off of level (I'll be adding a 1/2" plywood underbase to mine to make it more rigid for that purpose). You also failed to talk about the built-in technology, which is better than the pricepoint suggests: Proximity lane sensors, backup camera with turning radius lines, SiriusXM (paid subscription needed after 90 day trial), strong cellular connectivity, including a few solid app streaming, on the SES, keyless entry and start, and an option for remote start, and even without that, with the free FordPass app, you get remote start, door locks, horn-light bursting, and GPS locator anyway.
No, it's not a big car for hauling all of your junk across the Alps in record time, and the MPG is a little disappointing, but there's one great thing about it being kind of unpopular: There are a LOT of used ones out there at decent prices with low miles, and they have a really good reliability rating. A new one will last you 10 years, easy.

Loved my 2020 2.0 SE AWD so much I bought a 2021 S 1.0 FWD for my wife. These are awesome little vehicles. Both engines have plenty of power. They have no problems on the tollways at 80mph and both can hit triple digits no problem. The acceleration is peppy enough for any situation other than racing a sports car. We've raced the 2.0 vs the 1.0 and they are really close with a hair advantage to the 2.0. In city driving the torque of the 1.0 feels more peppy off the line however at 55-60 the 2.0 runs a little smoother. The 1.0 gets about 1-2 mpg better if more city driving but on the highway at speed they are almost identical mpg. A great reason to buy these over other crossover suvs is the true 6 speed transmission versus the other companies belt driven CVT. This potentially can be more reliable and the 2.0 SE trim gets 2000 lb towing capacity. You won't find that with the other comparables. I have 6x12 aluminum trailer that I load up two adult ATV's on which maxes out the 2000 capacity and it tows pretty well. I have a F250 for anything larger but the ecosport is nice because its nimble with the trailer and you can get into tight parking at the trails where the truck cannot. As far as the small trunk you can actually stack a lot of stuff in it. A family with two kids is going to have no problems using this daily for shopping and general life. I've sat in the back and its surprisingly comfy at 6ft tall. You don't want a 6'4" person in front of you but for most people its going to be just fine. The S trim does loose out on the nice dash lcd and has no touchscreen but that is the $ you are cutting. The SE with sync3 works well and has the moonroof. The SE with AWD is amazing in snow. I have taken it in our pasture with 8-10 inches of snow and a set of blizzack tires and it got through it just as good as my F250 with snow tires. The swing gate is great in the winter when the shocks on lift gates get sketchy and you only need the lift gate to drop on your head once to realize the value of the swing gate. My only gripes are that the roof line in front is low. You find yourself ducking to see stop lights and with the sunvisor down it can block even more. Sunvisor almost needs to be cut in half. MPG average is 28-29 on both models. So not as great as my chevy spark was (39-40mpg) but its also a lot more car. No spare tire or place for one. In my 46 years on the planet I have only had one flat tire but I still get nervous on a long trip. Also no great place to put your phone. I leave it in front of the shifter but sometimes that gets in the way when you put it in park. Also the 1.0 oil filter location is retarded. The 2.0 is a breeze to change. Other than that we love both cars.

I've recently bought one, I think it's ok, certainly not ugly, good on petrol, handles very well on corners, nice high driving position, comfortable. People were saying because it's high, it will roll on corners, no roll whatsoever, and I can take corners as well as the next man. It suits my needs, as I wanted a easier access drivers seat. Yes, no spare is a ball ache, but you can always buy a space saver and keep it in the boot.

I bought one new in 2020 as a new 2019 and haven’t had any issues. It works great for me. I see tons of them on the road even though Ford here in the US supposedly discontinued them for not enough sales. Could’ve fooled me with how many I see everywhere I go. Sure I wish there was more cargo room and wish the rear gate lifted vertically but honestly have gotten used to the swing gate and it’s fine. My top of the line Titanium trim model was just over $30k with every option. Can’t find that very often these days. Been very reliable so far. 33k miles

    I've got a 2021 S 2.0 .. It's been all right.
Keep in mind when buying a subcompact SUV it is a compromise. Not much sport not much utility. I do have to say the Ford Ecosport 2.0 L has more utility than the competition. Heavier vehicle with a bigger engine. In January I pulled a Jeep renegade and a Hyundai Kona out of the intersection next to my house after 10 snowfall.

    • @Shadows-RC
      @Shadows-RC Місяць тому

@keithbellair9508 I don't believe the 40mpg claim. Sorry. Most people lie about their MPG for some reason. The GM 1.4 turbo engine may be quicker and with better fuel economy, but that engine is junk. Those engines break down anywhere from 40,000 miles on up. Timing chains. Plus, the Encore/Chevy Traxx's AWD system isn't near as aggressive as the EcoSport's. The EcoSport supplies torque to all 4 wheels from a stop, with no exception. Encore/Traxx will only engage the rear differential when it detects slip, and it is slow to respond. EcoSports are better in snow.

I got a 2021 AWD SE a year and a half ago and love it. Got it just to save on gas going back and forth to work but like driving it around because it’s kinda fun to drive. Does surprisingly great off road and in snow and has quite a bit of clearance underneath but definitely lacks get up and go. The little 4 cylinder only has 160 hp so not gonna pass a lot of people on the highway. Definitely not any leg room in the back seats so probably should have been made a 2 seater instead. All in all it’s a pretty decent car for the price.

My 2018 SE 2.0 4x4 has been absolutely fantastic. Sure, it’s not super fast, but that’s not the point of this suv. No quality issues to speak of at all. I can get 31mpg on the hwy on a good day (not bad but not great) Also, I’m currently at 32,000 miles. I honestly think your negative opinion isn’t justified in this video. The 2.0Lt engine in S mode is a lot of fun and passing at speed is no problem. The rear boot has never been an issue and in some cases, better than a top hatch. I will say, the stereo sound quality kind of sucks lol. Lastly, working on this vehicle is a breeze, cost effective and of course you can find Ford parts everywhere. Having said all of this, I’m keeping mine for a few more years even though It’s paid for. For what it is, I give it a 7 out of 10. Not GREAT, definitely not BAD.

Don't know why anybody would get the 3 cylinder version of the EcoSport. I have owned a 2018 Ford EcoSport for over a year now. I got an SES model with just over 12,000 miles on it for 22K. I'm loving this car, personally. The SES variant has AWD, a 2 liter 4 cylinder enginer at just over 160 horsepower, and a sporty, comfortable interior. It's not the most powerful vehicle in the world, but the AWD capability helps during colder weather, and it has such a small footprint and tight turning radius that I can park it just about anywhere. I think my favorite feature is the side opening trunk door, I just think that's really cool. Too bad they didn't bring the spare tire mount to the states, though.

You have to know how to drive. No fear going out in any snow storms. High clearance is great since we don't shovel snow. I just clear a path to get in and back it out. It's a tiny monster. Find was stupid not to include at least a donut spare. And we use a top carrier if we pack fishing and beach gear plus luggage to go for 8 days to Outer Banks twice a year.

Guys who sell cars rarely talk about what is truly important. Does it hold up? Can the car be easily repaired? I have the 2 liter and was quite happy to learn that it is an engine used by many vehicles. This means great aftermarket parts availability. These guys also don't stress the cost of operation. I do wish my Ecosport had the mileage that my Focus had. Unfortunately, car bosses decided that American car vendors only sell SUVs now. Still the mileage is better than many. I've had my 2019 Ecosport for 3 years now and it still runs like new. 0-60 in 10 seconds is fine with me.

I m driving this car for more than 3 years. I m a tall person, 1.94 m, but there is enough space behind my seat for my 12 yo girl. Nothing sporty, but is what will expect from a 1 L engine with auto gear box. Gearbox is slow to respond sometimes seems not very decided what to do, gear up or gear down, but nothing major. And the seats are not that bad. You are exagerating. Of course you will not feel same as on a Volvo XC60 ( my 2nd car) but they are not bad. I drove this car in one go 350 km and there were no back pain or soar butt. And for a 15k E (with extras) new, is quite a good car. The really thing that i do not like is the fuel tank which is very small, only 45 ltr. I was in Ft Lauderdale recently and I have seen a lot of Eco's on the road. In my opinion you are talking from the american point of view, but as an european the car is decent. The Ford Puma is even worst for a tall driver like me, i drove one Puma for couple of hours and i did not like it. If you lower the back seats, put the boot floor on the upper position (top slot) you will have a real flat floor in the boot. And remove the boot tablet and you will have space for small fridge to carry.

Plus with the fold flat front seat you can get 8’ long 2x4 inside the car.. plus it has roof rails so you can put all kinds of stuff on the roof too…. Whats not to love? Why didn't you put your comments in perspective? Compare it to an Buick Encore or Chev Trax? The Ecosport fits right in with those...the Buick has actually less leg room and cargo volume. After looking at any of those...I gave up on compact SUVs

I have an encore.. it was an impulse buy but i say, im 6’ tall and you can get 3 adults my size in it perfectly fine. I got a new 55” tv in the back fine and i can get 40 mpg in the right comditions, i run 93 and the performance is real good, with the turbo it can climb most hills without even downshifting… i think its a fine car, especially since it was only $19,000 new.. and the stereo is great and has 6 speaker, leather trim, 6 spd with manual mode, apple play, awd, xm radio, alloy wheels. Plus with the fold flat front seat you can get 8’ long 2x4 inside the car.. plus it has roof rails so you can put all kinds of stuff on the roof too…. Whats not to love?

The Mazda cx-5 is actually considered a compact suv. I'm trying to buy one right now and it's super spacious and nice

I considered buying this car but after checking out different vehicles I've fallen in love with the Mazda cx-5. The 2020 ecosport was almost 19,000 and the cx-5 I'm going to try to buy this week it's 21,500. Kind of a no Brainer. I have a child in a car seat and stroller so I definitely need the room in the back. Plus my boyfriend is 6'1 and didn't feel cramped in the Mazda and Mazda has much better reliability.

Honestly this is just an embarrassment of a vehicle. The car is neither Eco nor Sport, Ford offers a much better subcompact crossover in Europe under the same platform (Puma). And this was out since 2012 and was released in the US in 2018

I have a 21 ford ecosport s got it in august of 21 for 20k almost at 50k miles and crossing my fingers while knocking on wood😂the biggest problem I’ve had is replacing the engine thermostat. I run synthetic and change whenever the oil life hits around 25%. I’ve had it up pretty high a few mornings on the way to work and it holds steady with a smooth ride for being up that high in a little 3c turbo. I also get around 33+ mpg when driving 70-75 on highways

LOL. A guy makes a video about why this car is so hated, but comment after comment below says no, this is a great little car! Funny. I learned more from reading the comments than from the video. My conclusion is that it would be a perfect around our little town car for my 4 foot 11 wife who does nothing but drive to work (15 minutes) and to shopping trips. Guys, thanks for all the comments! :-)

I have titanium.. The manual mode Sport and 2.0 seems to make a difference compared to the 1.0 I actually love it but the cost not so much for all the things you point out. I second guessed it when with all that I got beat by a ford focus :C. Its the pickachu Express model (one of a kind)

focus won't beat you in the winter time if you got the AWD model. lol. i got $6k in rebates on my 2020 se 2.0 awd and with with some additional negotiating I got mine for just under $22,500 out the door, everything included.

I have a 2021 EcoSport Titanium version. It's been pretty good for me. I work from home, so I wanted something cheap and small. I will say my two biggest complaints are the back seat leg space & the power of the engine. Very sluggish. Other than those two things, it works for me. It's a cool truck for me to go to the store or ride through the snow....plus I worked for Ford, so I got the A Plan. Hahahahaha!!

It looks like an old fashioned body on frame( which it is not ) SUV that's been shrunk in the dryer . I think it's cool like the 1980s Daihatsu Rocky .

I bought this car as my first ever and i have to agree with its kinda little ugly but for me who goes to work and doesnt have kids(no plan to either) and a partner is a good day to day so i dont mind the space but for a full family is not good so i think the car has its demographic if im making sense. Love your video!

I am okay with my 2020 Ecosport titanium fwd. I traded a convertible 2014 mustang for it and I miss having any power at all, but it’s comfy and durable. I beat the crap outta mine and it keeps coming back for more. I would much rather bought a nice loaded focus though, for sure.

    Another thing.
My parents have the 3 cylinder.
I find the steering wheel smallish and that you must have both hands on the wheel, especially in turns!
There’s something odd and rigid about the steering that I’ve never felt in any other car.
Use both hands or it can get away from you.
    Did you sense that too?

My Mom has one of these and loves it. Good grocery getter and daily driver. She also has the Ecoboost I-3 engine. She says it's "spritely and fun". She also gets better mileage than advertised.
All I remember is thinking I wish that I had this car back in 2012 vs. the lemon of a Focus I have. Same price.
So yeah. Definitely glad Ford got rid of the Focuses, Fusions, and Fiestas and their terrible transmissions in exchange for this car.

I guess people who used to drive standards had a more intuitive idea about the dual clutch transmissions.

I own a 2021 SES and think it's a really nice car. I'm very happy with it. Most of what the video stated was inaccurate. Plus he was driving the small engine which is quite different than problematic, unlike the 2 L. This car is much better than he gives it credit for.
