One of the best tv shows ever made, they explored so many different topics, all sorts of paranormal and supernatural stuff, and a conspiracy with the alien stuff which is explored over the seasons.
You guys are in for a treat.. one of the best moments of television right here.. best show ever.
One of my favorite TV series from my childhood! One of the best Sci-fi Horror Noir Supernatural Conspiracy Thriller Action Adventure Drama shows ever made.
I feel like I missed out. Happy to be watching it now.
DITTO 🥰 x-files ❤️✌️
Yesss!! One of my all-time favourite shows!
I hope you'll keep posting these. This really was event television back in the day. There are some crazy storylines. You wouldn't even believe how good this show gets.
People usually refer to the episodes as belonging to either "monster-of-the-week" or "myth arc" categories. There's also a fair number of episodes that are just really comedic, which is a nice occasional change of pace from the usual seriousness. Those ones are a lot of fun. The writing is great, and the two lead actors are very talented. They can easily switch between the different types of shows, while it all still feels like a cohesive world. The first season is solid, but they're still figuring stuff out and setting things up. By the second season they have hit their stride, and have established some great recurring characters.
The movie is definitely worth watching, at the appropriate time.
Very well said. 👍🥂
Have recorded the next two episodes. Will be available soon
The sad thing is- if X Files came along now a days, Fox would likely cancel it before it had a chance to build its audience. It took a couple of years before X Files crossed over and became a mainstream hit.
90's core essential TV viewing.
I was addicted to The X-Files in its original run. It is a great Sci-fi, Horror, Paranormal, Conspiracy Theory, Mystery, Thriller TV series that has stood the test of time. I hope you continue to react to it.
I think comparisons to the series Supernatural are reasonable since both are great series in the genre, but The X-files had more emphasis on the sci-fi and conspiracy theory elements than Supernatural, which naturally emphasized the supernatural elements. Both shows had about equal emphasis on the horror, paranormal, mystery and thriller elements.
YES!! Do this series!
Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny both had legions of fans.
Not, 'had,' : 'have.' There is still a very large, active fan base for this show and for the actors involved.
Aaaah welcome to the damp dark that is a Vancouver winter! In defense of Scully and Mulder going to the woods at night, it does get dark at 4:30 here in the winter, so, still within business hours 😛
Really hope you continue with it. It's such a great show and was such an influence on many others. Looking forward to watching you guys react to more episodes!
Reacting to the first 5 seasons would be fantastic content. X-Files taps into so many psychological fears, conspiracies, and anxieties. An interesting angle would be watching this show from our modern perspective. Many of the themes and subjects the show covers have either endured or have been revealed in contemporary times. One of the "banned" episodes was from the spin-off pilot for the "Lone Gunmen," (who are a group of fantastic recurring side characters) where it showed commercial airliners being hijacked by sinister forces and attempting to fly them into the World Trade Center towers...and that show premiered in March of 2001. (!)
Side note: My wife is not a big sci-fi fan but there's a villain character introduced in X-Files she LOVES to hate. Decades later, all I have to do is mention the character's name and she will hate-rant on them for the rest of the night. Another example of great writing, acting, and world-building in this series.
I'd bet the episode they heard about was the Lone Gunmen episode. Thats's the one that comes up the most for being banned.
David d has almost no expression on his face and he is perfect for this part, Going from town to town asking people if they had seen anything strange
Really it’s a class show. Definitely a key part of the evolution of top tier television. It’s legacy is still being felt to this day.
The X Files came out at the same time as the Sci Fi Western "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr" ,which was expected to run for years ,but ended after one season ..I loved the XFiles from the day I first saw the pilot, but fully expected it to be cancelled by the end of the season ...who knew it would grow to become a cultural phenomenon? ..
There would be NO “BREAKING BAD” (& many other shows) without “THE X FILES”. They reinvented & revolutionized tv with their writing, production, direction, acting, lighting, music, budget, so many tv firsts, etc. Hope you stay with it.👍🥂
I love that show too. So glad we're all in this together
@@RKnights Vince Gilligan wrote for The X Files & brought a fair amount of people from TXF to Breaking Bad, writers, directors, behind the scenes personnel, & actors. There would literally be no BB , certainly not as we know it, without TXF. Amazing talents all around.
BB has a good amount of so-called Easter eggs or callbacks to TXF. 🥂
I'm glad you guys liked this show! It was a biggie in the 90s & they even made a movie or 2 later on. It had stories about all kinds of Paranormal things not just aliens. 😉🖖
Loved and still love this show! Please go through th whole show, it get better.
To quote another franchise:
"I'm not saying that it was aliens, but it was aliens."
Well, and a human tapeworm.
All time favorite tv series! So glad to see y'all reacting. Enjoy the ultimate dynamic duo. 💖
Thanks! It's definitely a classic
I’ve read that this show was inspired by another series called Kolchak: The Night Stalker. I was a faithful fan of The X-Files during its original run. Interesting that they switched the thinking process so Mulder reasons like a woman and Scully reasons like a man.
Great to see you watching this! Won't spoil anything for you, but will tell you a few things:
1. This show was SUPER hot when it was new. Took the country by storm. So popular that it led to a feature film by its 5th season. The scripts were excellent, the acting (both regulars and guests) was top-notch, and the composer who did the musical score for the entire series, Mark Snow, was a major component of the show's success. (You will definitely notice the music as you continue watching episodes.)
2. Many/most episodes are stand-alone, but there are definitely a bunch of multi-episode (and multi-season) story arcs.
3. The first 5 years are the best. The next couple are so-so. The interest and the stories definitely fell off in the last few years.
4. The episode that was "banned," as you described it, was titled "Home." (No spoilers; the title is all I'll tell you.) It wasn't banned, per se, but the network made a decision not to air it in reruns because it disturbed a lot of viewers when it first aired. IIRC, that decision was reversed in later years. The episode is definitely on the home-video releases, and probably in streaming services also. I'll also say: it is unique and one of the most interesting episodes of the series.
Thanks for the info. We are enjoying this show so far
The show had a really bad time slot too, when it was first airing. Didn't matter. People still really wanted to watch it. They rearranged their social lives in order to watch The X-Files every week.
In my country "Home" was slightly censored and aired later than usual, and that was probably for the best. Still got the uncensored version on DVD (and later blu-ray)

I have to say I am so glad I found this channel. First you surprise me by being just about the only channel to react to Babylon 5. Then you started Farscape and it is a shame that it did not do well enough to continue. And now this gem of a show. I was recently wondering why there are so few reactions to X-files out there and now you guys start it up. Hopefully this will be entertaining enough for you and gets the views to keep going.
I really like the X-files and bought it on DVD a long time ago. The watch order can become a bit confusing with movies in between the seasons at two points. I know this is wishful thinking but I hope the people in the comments will avoid posting spoilers. It is pretty ironic that in my experience the posts that start with something like 'without spoiling anything' will almost always have spoilers in them.
Have fun with the X-files!
We got the next two episodes recorded and it will be on here soon
The episode goes back and forth between government conspiracy and aliens
You don't gather your friends to watch this. You set alone in the dark
The style is clever. Has more loose threads than a 1970s shag carpet in a haunted house ;-))
Some of the writers producers directors and actors from Xfiles end up going to Supernatural so that comp is spot on.
You guys will love this show!
Funny that you bring up Supernatural because a lot of the crew of The X-Files ended up working on Supernatural. Both shows share the same directors (Kim Manners being a stand-out) and both shows were filmed in the Vancouver, BC area of Canada. Some of the actors on The X-Files were later seen on Supernatural. There's even a Mulder & Scully joke in the pilot episode of Supernatural. So the similarities and connections run deep between the two.
Thanks for sharing that info. That's awesome!
The X-Files is my favorite show of all time. So, if you keep watching it, I will be here. :) Just a word of 'warning' - there are some clunky episodes here and there because it is crazy hard to come up with 24 new storylines every year. Especially in season one, because their budget was nothing. But it really has some great ones in season one as well, and the show starts cooking with gas in S2. By seasons 4-5 it is (imho) one of the best shows ever made.
The show would have the "mythology" episodes about the alien storyline and "monster" episodes, usually stand alone episodes about a monster or other paranormal stuff.
True, until one or two of the "monsters" and/or "paranormal" had some link to the alien story.
I look forward to you reacting for the entire show! Supernatural was great, but this is an awesome show... All of it!
Thanks! We are excited for this journey.
This is one of those shows that I think about when I think about the 90s, and it just... It was just a given. It's like The Simpsons, or Married With Children, or any one of the Star Trek shows. It was just a given, you turned on the TV during the week, you could find The X-Files. There are so many great episodes.
I'm glad to see you guys watch this.
Also, Ray, I have a movie reaction idea for you guys. "A Simple Plan" from 1998. It's one of those great, one question/sentence kind of movies, and i'd love to see how each of you react to the premise and to the concept of the movie.
In fact Mulder and Scully were on The Simpsons. There is an episode of Babylon5:Crusade that is a reverse x-files parody where the crew meets alien Mulder and alien Scully.
X-Files is legendary. It holds up very well even today. I'm currently rewatching it and it's amazing. Many people behind Supernatural worked previously on the X-Files. Please consider continuing X-Files reactions.
Huge fan of this show please continue
Hi Guys, you won`t be surprised that this was another show I watched at the time of airing, all the way through. It was a great show with great actors/writing, Gillian Anderson was impossible to ignore. Glad you enjoyed it & I look forward to re-watching it through your eyes. It`s effect on the Sci-Fi fandom was similar to Babylon 5, IMO.
Some answers take years to ever get close to the truth.
I watched this show faithfully in the '90s...they don't make shows like that anymore!
Good times... One of the decade defining and the genre defining TV show. But it also help making crazy conspiracy theories a mainstream problem. Think of this show as the forefathers of both urban paranormal (Supernatural), and government conspiracy thriller. They don't call the 90s the start of the golden age of television for nothing.
I remember that they used to show the first 5 seasons of The X Files on Syfy and BBC America as well as the now defunct Chiller Network.
I remember the Chiller Network
You're in for a great ride. I mean, you're also in for some pretty silly stuff but mostly amazing.
Hope that in time you also watch the spin-off show Millennium.
The mother of mystery! Grew up with it in the 90s and loved it like everybody else. Stargate and Buffy next?! 😅
I second Buffy
@@joetengler9251 third buffy!
I loved this show when it aired!!
If you guys manage to someday complete this series, take a break then seriously consider watching the 5 season show that is the spiritual offspring and wonderfully inspired by X Files.
FRINGE (2008). It is also right in your wheel house. And is brought home to a satisfying conclusion.
Yeah Fringe is really good.
Hope you keep watching.
Recorded the next two episodes
...You WILL be remember it Forever!!!! 🙂🙂😘🙂🙂
The banned episode is called "Home". Good episode! There are a lot of good episodes but I'd definitely recommend are Squeeze and Tombs..
That's the one. Definitely the most disturbing episode for me, really X-Files at its best.
Not only was the show well written and acted. We got to look an absolute stunning redhead every week.
Damn Gillian Anderson was smokin hot.
She’s still smokin to this day.
Can you even believe that Fox was trying to pressure Chris Carter into not casting her, because they wanted a Pamela Anderson type. Good lord, Gillian is gorgeous, they were crazy.
A great show to react to. And if all 11 seasons seems like a big ask there will be some great guides out there to the most fun and essential episodes to watch.
Oh dude ! You gotta see the PILOT MOVIE X-FILES !!
Interested to see what you make of thisw just rewatching myself for the first time in yonks
wow This is amazing. The impact this show had upon arrival cannot be understood. I was in University then and, as an example, no word of a lie, on Fridays when it broadcast ( sorry kids, no internet then...) the bar we hung out in would put it on all the TV's and everyone would shut up, sit down, be quiet, and watch. I've watched the entire series multiple times and the storytelling far exceeds anything that's been done in the past 25 years easily...
In the 1990s, The X- Files was the coolest show on TV. It also popularized the use of the internet and cell phones.
"Science" is a process - not an answer....
"this was huge" - I believe several seasons were the most viewed TV show in their year. Something that Scifi/SciFantasy/Horror shows usually can only dream of. And it also was highly successful globally.
The series has three standing points it's build on, each equally important IMHO:
- the Alien Conspiracy story arc spanning the whole series. Not planned exactly like in Babylon 5, but there is stuff that'll be picked up again at later points.
- the "Monster of the Week"-Episodes. These usually contain nothing of the main arc, but confront Mulder and Scully with all kinds of creatures - both "classic" horror figures like Werewolves, Vampires and Ghouls, oh my, AND ones made up for the show. Like the Tapeworm-Man. :D
- Mullder and Scully. Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny have weird but working chemistry between them. And when the writers catch on and write both for the story and the actors we get some great episodes. :)
Season 1 is rough quality wise ( as in literally, the picture quality ) but season 2 onwards looks much better and the series as a whole is up there with Babylon 5 as one of
the best ever imo.
THE best show ever in my opinion!
Blimey! 11 seasons and two movies. Hope you didn't have anything else planned for the next year or so.
Well worth it.
I met the series' creator, Chris Carter and told him that this series saved my life. It's absolutely true. I also met David and Gillian. 👽✌
Wait till these guys meet Toombs lol oh and lots of famous actors BEFORE they were famous!
Do you notice that the setup is similar to the silence of the lambs?
My fave tv show growing up, glad to see you reacting to it especially since you dropped the ball on Star Trek 😄But if you keep up with the X-Files then all is forgiven
So we didn't drop the ball on ST. We are actually uploading videos for it and recording them. We just keep getting copyright striked so it's on a hold until further notice. Thank you for your support tho! We have about 3-4 episodes of X-Files recorded i think.
@@julienn8844 Sweet, look forward to the ST vids then. Till then, watching you guys react to X-Files is more than awesome 👍
@hrs2044 we are juggling the idea of skipping to DS9 or TNG because reactors apparently have less copyright issue but trust me you will know. We really don't wanna give up on ST because of how beloved it is. If you ever have time on Saturdays around 9 EST I wholeheartedly recommend seeing us live.
@ 17:50
"Time can't just disappear, it's a universal invariant!"
Agent Scully's statement would have been considered wrong when she was in kindergarten. Time is not a 'universal invariant.' Time is relative.
As theorized by Einstein and others, including time-dilation with both near-light-speed travel and black holes.
The "banned" episode was called "Home" It wasn't banned because it told or hinted at any secret. It was just weird and gross. IE: Disturbing.
X - Files goes Texas.
Trust no one 👽
Definitely one of the shows worth watching. Most of the stuff is at least above average - some great writing and acting. Actually I have the yet unopened DVD Box here waiting for a review too. :D
Science, specifically darwinian evolution and paleontology, in the 90s was the new religion. I can remember anything to do with kids would always have dinosaurs and attached evolutionary theory somewhere- entertainment, education, toys, you name it. The priests of this new religion looked like Bill Nye, Scully, and any Park Ranger with a hat. The emotional passion associated with it always gave it away, like they had found some higher purpose or something. Look at how well that's worked out for us.
Suprised you haven't done "Space: Above and Beyond" a real cult 90s science fiction show that lasted a season
heck they don't know how gravity works!
Mad hatter isn't from lead it's from mercury. It was a wool bonding agent which is what they used to make top hats 🎩 hence the Alice in wonderland character where's glad you chose to cover this I just finished the series with another reactor a couple of months ago. I want to spoil so much. This can be watched in so many ways. There's the 1 off episodes. Alien episodes or just watch in order, ect. What I can tell you this show was before Hillary Clinton removed the wall between the FBI & CIA. this allowed the FBI to give oversight on CIA dealings. this led to recent claims of lawfare zero oversight and CIA to use the FBI as a shield because they would be implicated for working with them. Until that wall is restored any activity that infringes on rights or constitution they can't speak or prosecute. This is actually how the FBI is supposed to function but doesn't anymore.
A lot of the audience lost touch with reality watching this show. I had to stop watching for that reason, it became hard to distinguish between what was really happening and what was from the show.
Sounds like it has good writing
@RKnights yeah it does, good acting too.
There was one episode that was not shown at the time. It was a stand alown about a famly doing things that most would say was un natural. It was the way the show " did it" that made it as bad as The Thing That Lives Under the Stairs.
It was shown, just not repeated.
Sabrina The teenage witch
Who else would totally watch Sabrina the Vampire Witch?
I love Sabrina. Sooooooooo funny
Still trying to find Buffy The Teenage Hunter ....
@@derekramsaroup3883that doesn't work the way you think it does 😂😂😂😂
Honest to God that does sound like a great series.
if you guys want to watch a Great scifi TV series "FRINGE" it's X-files on Steroids...Best tv scifi series, although Babylon 5 was great also.
The Orville wont disappoint !
There is something ... Internet Influencers ... out there! Elon rises from the grave in Silicon Valley.
