  • We were thinking about getting another hay trailer but decided that a flatbed could be used for multiple purposes including hauling bales. Yesterday we got some steel and today I had time to weld oil well to the sides to help hold the bales in place better.

If there's one skill I want to improve on, its welding. So underappreciated but so valuable. Great video.

Great wedding Cole this is real good work. You are good fabricator and worth a lot to your farm. The bales should stay on now no probs. Great video and very interesting

You must be going over some rugged terrain. I don’t have anything like that on my trailer and to keep the back ones on, we just put a tie straps up about ⅔ of the way on the back two bales. Mine is only 20 feet long. I can carry eleven 1200 bales. Not bad for an old 63 year old lady. I keep getting all kinds of looks when I drive by a bunch of guys. Laugh Out Loud !

Whoever teaches you to weld did a great job! You cleaned every place you were welding. Your weld was uniform I didn’t see any defects!

On our gooseneck it already came with slots so we took square tubing and bent the at a 45 degree angle. Love the video.

Excellent looking weld, from someone who, years ago, was certified to weld booms for American hoist and derrick! Thanks for the post. Regards, Ron p.s. all welds were with stick, 7018 rods.

I actually took a welding class in high school and I learned a lot there, and also over the years of welding at home you can get pretty good at it.

Interesting video to see how you welded steel to make rails on your trailer. Good idea to make the end removable in case you need to take it off. Change is good so that you can have some variety of subjects for your videos.

Well I am impressed you did a good weld job and like the screaming eagle welding hood and the way have place the braces look like it would the hay bales onto the trailer.

It's good you show all the other thing that go along with farming' it not all sitting around in the cab of a tractor practicing for friday night karaoke.

We use a in-line dump bale trailer . it's holds 7 bales and you should be able to hold 15-18 bales but better have a strap over them as the DOT might like to write you a ticket.we do also use a 24 flat trailer to haul bales too. when we have a lot to move.

I also use a gooseneck to move bales and pull it with a loader tractor. I use a 3pt bale spear with a ball on it to pull the trailer. That lets me spot the trailer and bring bales to it 2 at a time. You could probably add a spear to your hitch pretty easily.

To each their own but from someone that moves lots of bales with a trailer, what you did was a waste of time and material. Not needed and will make loading and unloading bales more difficult and you added weight to a trailer that is already going to be fully loaded...
