I raced a TZ750 in the AMA Formula 1 series back in 1981 ss a privateer with a best finish of 7th at my favorite track which was DEFINITELY Road America- my bike was previously ridden by Ron Pierce in '80 and had some OW31 internals, including cylinders, heads, reed valves, power jet magnesium bodied carbs and exhaust system which were acquired from Yamaha motor Canada's Bob Work. (Steve Bakers crew chief) I was running in the lead pack in my heat race, had an ignition problem and ended up finishing 14th which put me on the 9th row (28th) for the main event- That thing was so unbelievably fast - (191 mph trap speed in the morning warmup) I had no idea where I finished after the race was over, but was ecstatic when found out I finished 7th - finishing in the top ten on 3 other occasions besides Road America that year earned me my long sought after AMA national number (45) - without a doubt my greatest achievement in my 10 year roadracing career-
@@h2racer that's why I threw in that story - And if u remember, we didn't have the new chicane after the exit of the carousel back then, you'd shift into 4th gear at the exit and hit 5th right before the right hand kink as you approached hurry downs- man, u had to hold your breath going through there flat out in 5th gear, probably hitting close to 160 mpg - CRAZY FAST- And I actually ran out of gas on the cool off lap, and by the time the rescue truck picked me up, it was past the 30 minute post race protest ruling, so all my friends were running up to saying that I finished 7th ?? I thought they were screwing with me -
God, I love the sound of that engine when the pipe and intake are on frequency, sound of power! Whenever you're ready to sell and hand over custodianship of that baby I'll gladly give you a fair offer! Smokers forever!
I had to learn the hard way on a 1978 Rd 400. I'm still shocked that I am alive. Ride on brother. Ride on. And yes the tachoneter was gimpy as f%ck....
Great bike, great rider, great race! Would love to see you riding that Black Suter too though. Oh, if you still race 2Strokes, maybe you can get in touch with Wayne "Wobbly" Wright(Wobblypipes), I'm sure he can make that bike even faster.
@@h2racer AWESOME! If you can share more about what was done to it.. would be great! Before and after of the cylinders if possible would be great! Maybe dyno with old vs new pipes.
Hello H2Racer, I’m hoping your the Dave who I took to buy his first h2 in sidmouth? I’m in your neck of the woods next month and was wondering if you were about for a catch up over a pint or 2?
If it’s an open 2 stroke class how come there’s a number of people competing on 4 stroke vtwins? Did they just group 2 races together? I know they do it in WERA sometimes. Btw nice riding you did a hell of a job and that tz looks like a complete animal! Would love to ride an old 2 stroke like that someday

The intake howl of a big 2-stroke at WOT is so awesome. Really takes me back in time!

Looks great Dave!!! Wish I could have been there.

Funny you should say that, just testing the next iteration of the bike at Willow Springs this weekend, that was built with collaboration for Wobbly

So cool. TZ750 against Ducati 888☺
Great revving engine
You can see how that bike could catch you out, very narrow powerband
