Well, I'm Chilean and I'm a head professional male nurse in a Public General Emergency Service with high demand for adults and children care (I work just with 12 assistants and 2 general physicians). I have always considered that macho concepts should be left out of our work, both in men and women. But there are also gender-specific features that allow and help the team to provide better nursing care for each specific patient. "Safe hands and affectionate treatment" requires study and permanent interest in being the best therapeutic aid, and being effective in achieving institutional objectives.
Male nurse for 11 years now, worked the same place the whole time. I'm Heterosexual, but I'm ready to go on an all male gay cruise just to get away from the estrogen for a week.

I attended and graduated from Howard University with a B.S. in Business Administration. Unfortunately, people tend to think all male nurses are GAY. I have encountered several gay male nurses but there are some straight male nurses. Things have changed since the 70's and the nursing profession has opened up for males.
