Country music is heartbreaking! Tammy Wynette is not only a fantastic singer but a spectacular song writer. If I'm not mistaken she wrote this song. I know that she has a huge catalogue of songs that she wrote or co-wrote!
Tammy lived in a suburb outside Birmingham before Nashville with her first husband. One of my Aunts lived next to her. She could hear Tammy singing all day. She preformed on a early morning live show called The Country Boy Eddie show. Her name was Wynetta Bird then. She has such a great catalog. She was married to George Jones. Their marriage was very volatile due to Georges alcohol abuse. They did several great duets. Wonderful analysis Harri!
Tammy Wynette grew up about 15 miles from me in Itawamba County Mississippi . I was fortunate to see her in concert 2 times in Redbay Alabama She was my favorite country singer and still my favorite female singer. She had a rough life and she put her life in her songs. Till I can make it on my own was her favorite and also mine. RIP ❤
Beautiful reaction to this fabulous country classic from the First Lady of Country Music, with 15 #1 hits on the Country music chart to her credit. She was married a total of five times. You have yet to play her most well known song, "Stand By Your Man". Well known internationally now.
She had a tuff personal life, bad marriages and years of health problems with a lot of pain. Her single, Stand By Your Man, is solid gold. Her marriage and duets with George Jones are landmarks in Country music.
I have a funny story about this song. In 1998 I was hiking the Appalachian Trail. I was 35 at the time and met up with a small group of young guys. So in the evening around a campfire these guys were singing some cool songs young guys at the time would sing, and then they asked me to sing a song. This was the only song I could think of that I knew the words. So on a mountaintop in central Virginia I belted out Tammy Wynette's DIVORCE. The young guys were confused where this song came from, they never heard of it or Tammy, I thought it was hilarious. The looks on their faces, priceless.
Hi Harri .. You should listen now to Billy Connolly's parody version of this song .. It was a big hit for him, and quite funny ! .. There's a live version on YT of him performing it on Top of The Pops .. There's also a few versions with the lyrics included, in case you find his accent a bit thick .. Cheers, Wayne
You are so right! There's a feeling of reality to this song. I can see it being done still today. This song has gutted me more times than I care to admit, it's just so heartwrenching. Thank you for a great reaction! ❤
This song is particularly gut wrenching to me on a whole different level. My parents did divorce in 1973 at which time I was 4 years old. When it was finalized, my mother and I moved away to Chicago. To top it all off, since I am a jr, to keep my dad and I from answering at the same time, my grandfather gave me the nickname of little Joe. Infact when I turned 18, I had a tattoo with my nickname put on my right arm as a memory of my grandfather. So ya, it gets me where it hurts, but it is a beautiful song.
Everytime I hear these songs from back then, it reminds me of being 4 or 5 and at home with my mom doing dishes and cleaning, course I'm playing and watching TV. But, it's funny that such a depressing song takes ME back to a time of feeling love and security. And my moms singing ringing throughout the house. Thanks, mom, love ya.
@@allendixon7700 sorry, I'm having a really hard time understanding your text. I'm pretty sure you think Tammy is the best. But, I'm pretty much confused throughout.
Great reaction Harri! I recommend listening to the famous duets in country music, specifically in relation to this song, Tammy Wynette and George Jones’s, “Golden Ring”
You have to listen to ‘Justified and Ancient’ from the KLF in the 90’s, it’s dancey but very difficult to describe its exact genre as it crosses many, and it features the lovely Tammy Wynette on lead
One of the bizarre aspects of two great singers in a volatile relationship ~ Tammy & George Jones continued to perform together after their divorce & did a number of recordings about their time together
I just love her very special voice. She lived it! Country as good as it gets. One of many of her giant hits! She has soo many.along with many duets with george jones. I just saw a bio on her life less then a week ago. Man,did she live thru some hard times. Love the way this was written. The best musicians have got to be in country. Imo?! F-DW!. Aka.dan, northern florida.4/22/22
Reba McEntire did an incredibly sad song… Somebody Should Leave. One part says “… I’m so sad I don’t know what I just read”. Wow. Tugs at your heart strings. I love sad songs!!! Weird…huh??
Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn were the queens of country music in the early 60s 70s. There was nobody better. Tammy was married to George Jones and the two of them did some amazing duets. Check out golden ring if that doesn’t make you cry nothing will and then George Jones did some amazing stuff on his own like he stopped loving her today and a good year for the roses not to mention his rockabilly stuff like the race is on and white lightning
A good song is just poetry set to music - and the words of this unlikely song are pure poetry to listen to. On that basis, and your obvious appreciation of the words that make up the song, can I please request you react to Mary MacGregor singing "This Girl Has Turned Into a Woman". A truly amazing choice of words to describe 'the first time'. Another song/singer that grips your heart is Janis Ian singing "At Seventeen". Love reliving a song through your thoughts - thank you.
Harribest, I really like your reactions. I think you mean the things you say about the songs you react to, and I appreciate that. Thank you for this song. I'm a big fan of country music and of Tammy Wynette.
I have always considered this song in two ways. First that it would make a great duet (the man sings the first verse and the woman sings the second verse and they sing the last chorus together), but it also seems to me that this woman (in the song) did not want the divorce. Her friends PUSHED her into it. One last note. Tammy was known as the 'woman with a tear in her voice' and this song shows you why.
Tammy Wynette is my absolute favorite country singer, even more than Loretta Lynn, whom I also adore. And many others. I don't know how much Tammy you've heard, but she has so many fantastic songs. This one and Stand By Your Man are probably her biggest hits, but she has a bunch of them . One that I used to cover in my band that literally brought tears to people's eyes, is to me even sadder than this song in a different way though. And perhaps it's not as clever of a song device but it is so amazing, and the way she sings it and her phrasing and the feeling in her voice just slays me every time. It's a really slow waltz and it gives her plenty of time and space to phrase on and off the beat and swell up through the simple but beautiful chord progression. It's called Too Far Gone. m.ua-cam.com/video/RyNaaSouKJs/v-deo.html But this is the one I implore you to listen to because if you listen to it right after divorce, it's just so bouncy and upbeat and fun, and you can hear that wonderful voice being put to a completely different use. It's guaranteed to move your feet and put a smile on your face. You're Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad 😀 m.ua-cam.com/video/R_-8Ja2IgjQ/v-deo.html And just for reference, here she is live doing probably her biggest hit. Stand By Your Man m.ua-cam.com/video/f2KP9fYZUWA/v-deo.html
Yeah George Jones and her were married once years ago he's a country singer too you know and Charlie pride like who you mentioned he was playing back then when they was playing I like Charlie pride myself he was good country music this old country is good man you know it's really great music that cost you that they called today that country music they called today is it's more like rock rock country rockabilly and you know they got all kinds of music involved in days country music they intertwined the music together and it sounds great though don't get me wrong
Back in the day when adults spelled out words to one another so the children wouldn't know what they were saying. I always figured it out. It was like a game I looked forward to.
Did give me food for thought as I left my son dad and he was 4 I just wonder what he was feeling at that time he never did say he's almost 20 now and still hasn't said anything about that time in his life I wasn't married not that made any difference we did live together tho many years so it would of had impact on my son I'm sure! I only just thought about that feel like I let him down now
Tammy was married to George Jones. One night she hid all his keys so he couldn't go get alcohol she heard a noise and he was driving the rising lawn mower! Funny and sad!
You should do a song by Jerry Doucette, a Canadian musician who past away a couple days ago. His famous song is Mama Let Him Play: ua-cam.com/video/OfW0ndxATt8/v-deo.html

Saw her in concert. Wow, do I love her voice. Sheer talent, deep emotions.

Another great one by her is "I Don't Want to Play House". Another tear jerker
Tammy was a very classy lady. She had a lot of great songs. I think her best was "I'll Get Buy".
Tammy Wynette blew me away when she collaborated with KLF for the song, Justified and Ancient. You need to check that one out.

Tammy Why-net. Her songs are very heartfelt.
Tammy's the BOMB. ❤❤
I had this album, loved Tammy Wynette (pronounced Wi - Net). Great job Harri!

Another tearful one is Sugarlands. Stay
Great reaction Harri! I recommend listening to the famous duets in country music, specifically in relation to this song, Tammy Wynette and George Jones’s, “Golden Ring”
Tammy was taken from this life too soon. You should check out her duets with Dolly Parton. Pure talent. Great reaction. 👏
You have to listen to ‘Justified and Ancient’ from the KLF in the 90’s, it’s dancey but very difficult to describe its exact genre as it crosses many, and it features the lovely Tammy Wynette on lead
At the age of 5 i can remember sitting on the judges lap as he asked me which parent I wanted to live with . I can relate to this song .
One of the bizarre aspects of two great singers in a volatile relationship ~ Tammy & George Jones continued to perform together after their divorce & did a number of recordings about their time together
I met her twice, once in Ireland and once at her home of which she opened up for her fan organisers.

Another great one is I don't want to play house. Thanks for highlighting her. Love your station. Keep up the great music.
She did a couple other songs along this line. I Don’t Want To Play House and Bedtime Story. She did a duet with George Jones. Golden Rings.
Beautiful song yet so sad!
Reba McEntire did an incredibly sad song… Somebody Should Leave. One part says “… I’m so sad I don’t know what I just read”. Wow. Tugs at your heart strings. I love sad songs!!! Weird…huh??
Loved Tammy ! Another one gone to soon.

Her song (I dont want to Play house )will Knock your socks off
Great reaction.
This song is practically 60 years old but you know that someone is living this story today.
Harribest, I really like your reactions. I think you mean the things you say about the songs you react to, and I appreciate that. Thank you for this song. I'm a big fan of country music and of Tammy Wynette.
I love Tammy Wynette's song "I don't want to play house" I think should react to it.
Thank you so much!
Great Tammy Wynette song
Check out her song
Your Good Girl’s Gonna Go Bad
She was my hero. I used to stand in front of the mirror trying to sound like her. She came up hard.
One of my favorite songs that she sings is George Jones ( Golden Ring )..I hope you react to it soon
Grew up with this song.

It sounds like Freddie fender before the làst teardrop falls.
Love this reaction, country music is so raw and so real….could u PLEASE put “He stopped loving her today” by George Jones on ur list
Listen to “I don’t want to play house” also by Tammy Wynette
There’s a song by George jones called daddy come home his daughter sings in it really sad song but great at the same time
Tammy and George Jones sang a song called Golden rings. Beautifully sad.
The First Lady of Country Music
She had a husband, George Jones, who did this heartbreaker:- "He Stopped Loving Her Today".
My personal heartbreaker song is Hot Chocolate - Emma.
You have empathy. Good on you m
Another song by Tammy, that I know you'll enjoy, is "I Don't Wanna Play House".
Fire on High by ELO--all instrumental, but great.
Her ex George Jones did some tearjerkers. A good example is his A Good Year for the Roses (1972). Elvis Costello did a bland version of it too.
Yeah George Jones and her were married once years ago he's a country singer too you know and Charlie pride like who you mentioned he was playing back then when they was playing I like Charlie pride myself he was good country music this old country is good man you know it's really great music that cost you that they called today that country music they called today is it's more like rock rock country rockabilly and you know they got all kinds of music involved in days country music they intertwined the music together and it sounds great though don't get me wrong
such a sad life she led in many ways sadly i have seen D I V O R C E up close as I ever want to see it
I would like to oh you react to Keith Whitley’s Miami my Amy! Please and thanks cheers from Florida
this song was written by Bobby Braddock and Curly Putman
Harri, you're the best but Tammy's last name is pronounced WHY-NET. This is a sad song but you gave it a good reaction. Thanks.
What inspired this song and he stopped loving her today by Gorge Jones was the divorce Tamy Wynette, and Gorge Jones were going through.
You should listen to her sing the wonders you perform
Back in the day when adults spelled out words to one another so the children wouldn't know what they were saying. I always figured it out. It was like a game I looked forward to.
One I like by her is Thank The Cowboy For The Ride. Bedtime Story. Don't Liberate Me.
My favorite of hers is Stand By Your Man-however I like Lyle Lovett’s cover best.
Did give me food for thought as I left my son dad and he was 4 I just wonder what he was feeling at that time he never did say he's almost 20 now and still hasn't said anything about that time in his life I wasn't married not that made any difference we did live together tho many years so it would of had impact on my son I'm sure! I only just thought about that feel like I let him down now
Billy Connolly did a good version of this about his "Wee Doggy"
This song is about her and George Jones divorce. He wrote a song for her called, "He Stopped Loving Her today". It was all to do with Alcoholism.
There There Harri....check out Billy Connoly's version of this ....should cheer you up
You a good guy my wife & i like you.
Tammy was married to George Jones. One night she hid all his keys so he couldn't go get alcohol she heard a noise and he was driving the rising lawn mower! Funny and sad!
George Jones ex wife.Love her
Iconic voice. Most beautiful woman when she was young, but stardom like always invites bad men and stress that kills you.
Tammy was married to George Jones, She tried to hold on. But he ran around, drank. Till she'd had enough.
You should do a song by Jerry Doucette, a Canadian musician who past away a couple days ago. His famous song is Mama Let Him Play:

George Jones was one of her husbands. They had a daughter together.
