    Good job. I’m 77 yo fished Catahoula
    Most of my younger days with boxes.
    I caught from 500-800 lbs a day.
    I now fish catfish wire nets in the Ouachita in the Biden hills and also fish below Columbia.
    They bad about running your nets near Columbia. They don’t steal um much, only lost one near Columbia.
    I fished Little River from Georgetown to Highway 8. Too many gators there.
    I hide mine perty well.
    I was told that some hunt wire nets with a hi-tec fish finder on Little River and the Ouachita.
    The Corps of Engineers ruined Catahoula Lake. I now live in Summerville above Jena. .

      I always enjoy the comments from Local fishermen and like seeing you-all find our Channel. I've never fished the river below Columbia, but I've fished it from Arkansas state line down to there. I've also hunted around Columbia on the game reserve a good bit. Good country down your way. Net Thieves got about the same place in my heart as any other thief, lol. If a guy can afford high tech sonar like livescope, they typically aren't your every day thief. If they got caught stealing nets using that equipment, they'd be risking loosing a high dollar boat and everything in it being it was used in a crime. As they should.

      What part of the country do you live in? You can order them from Champlain's net company, or the Nets and More company out of Louisiana. Lots of local Bait shops in the South sell these nets. Check local state regulations before you purchase them

      I'm familiar with the salt water around Metairie. I'm not familiar with the fresh water in that area. However, Louisiana is perfectly legal to fish the nets. A $20 permit allows you to fish them recreationally. They will work anywhere you have freshwater Channel Cats, but they work better is some places than others. If you wanted to try them I'd only buy one or two just to test out. Nets and More, (The Fish Net Company LLC) is located in Jonesville Louisiana.

    Your videos. I fish trout lines in the red river. I'd like to try the wire nets in the river. Where would you recommend fishing a wire net in the river? Out the current. I mean like what to look for in setting out the wire net? Thank you.

    • @godscountryhuntingfishing1638
      @godscountryhuntingfishing1638  2 роки тому +1

      Wire nets are such a smaller diameter it's tricky. If you don't have a lot of current you can probably fish the edges of the current. Maybe up creeks and such out of the main river. If you get backwater, then in the woods. A little current on is in ok on wire nets, but I wouldn't fish them in heavy currents like hoop nets. Maybe we can fish a few this year while our hoop nets are in just to give up ya some ideas. It's trial and error till you find them. Just move around till you hit them. Fishing a river system in spring, put them on bottom with the mouth down by stream. Hope that helps some

      @@galendauzat7906 they will catch in a river system, but timing and current conditions are key. Winter before a lot of current and summer when there's less current could be really good. Or like I said before, in the backwater. Now when I say backwater, I'm talking about just out of the original river bank where there isn't much room. Like beside a levee in the woods. Gotta think of it as where they funnel to. There are only so many fish in water. You gotta get your nets where there most likely to swim upstream!

    • @godscountryhuntingfishing1638
      @godscountryhuntingfishing1638  2 роки тому

      @@galendauzat7906 In Current, along a river, how we fish out hoop nets is best. If you've never fished them, I'd recommend going with someone local first. It's dangerous out there in those currents, so be careful on that. When a big hoop net loads down with fish in heavy currents, it can sometimes take two men to pull it in. Wire nets are much safer to fish. I'd look more for underwater shelf's along bluff banks. Catfish don't know what a bluff bank is, but their bluffs, because the current washes them out. Fish like current and swim it, as it's the shortest path upstream. Wire nets I'd look for underwater bluffs in the 10-15 ft range. Look at it like stairs. You can feel this out with a drag. Drop your net right against that drop off. River may be 30 ft or more, but you'll want to fish the stair case in spring

    • @godscountryhuntingfishing1638
      @godscountryhuntingfishing1638  Рік тому +1

      We do all of our net fishing from a 1652 sea Ark. It's plenty big enough to recreationally or even light commercial fish with three people in the boat. Handles well in fairly rough water as well. I've run a lot of nets from 14ft boats, but highly recommend wider boats starting at 42" or wider at least on running nets over 3 ft in diameter. If I was full commercial, I'd want an 18'60" boat with at least a 70hp motor

    • @godscountryhuntingfishing1638
      @godscountryhuntingfishing1638  3 роки тому

      If your asking can you just put h one in from the bank, the answer is yes you can. You'd just need to hide your rope good so it don't get stolen. Lots of people fish the wire catfish nets off their docks or tied off the banks. I'd look for some bank that drops off fairly quick. Maybe 4-8 foot where you throw it in, good luck!!

    • @godscountryhuntingfishing1638
      @godscountryhuntingfishing1638  3 роки тому +2

      Jeremy, usually we catch on the first soak. May not catch as Good, but will sometimes catch for sure. If they don't, I wouldn't move or adjust them unless they don't catch for two soaks. We usually go 4-7 days depending on water conditions

    • @godscountryhuntingfishing1638
      @godscountryhuntingfishing1638  3 роки тому +2

      Also keep in mind your coming upon the tail end of Prime hoop net season. Towards the end of June as the water warms up, your nets will get nastier and have water critters on them. They also will go to catching a lot of turtles if left too shallow. All this depends on location, water current, and temperatures. Here in North Louisiana, the catfish typically stop spawning by end of June. You'll be able to fish them again in the fall towards the end of October. Especially with a rainy fall and current!!

      Thank you for the information. Fishing with nets is new to me. I bought 3 of the reinforced wire nets, uncoated and I mixed up roofing tar and gas at about a 50/50 ratio to put a coating on them and they still smell strong. I'm going to continue to let them soak and if nothing else it'll cut down on the smell lol. I'm using cheese trimmings as bait but I'm ordering a case of the blocks soon. Thanks again for the information and taking the time to make these videos.

    • @godscountryhuntingfishing1638

      Jeremy, not sure where your fishing, but for the next 3-4 months you need to hang those wire nets with the throats down and the rear of the net about 2-3 ft under the surface. If not your gonna have a mess of dead fish as it gets hotter. The oxygen is in the upper portion of the water column in summer months. I like to use trees in 10-14 ft of water and tie them under the water surface so thieves don't steal the nets. Put a whole or half block right against the second throat. Good Luck!!!

    • @godscountryhuntingfishing1638
      @godscountryhuntingfishing1638  3 роки тому

      Yes sir Dan, catfish have a length limit in the state of louisiana, no matter how you fish for them. Flatheads 14", Blues 12", and channel cat 11". However your allowed a percentage of undersized fish that is pretty lenient. I do realize these channels look small, but we are filming with Gopro's. We're well within our legal rights and those 11-13" channel cats sure are tasty!!! When we fish wire nets in Louisiana, we are purposely targeting smaller legal channels. I know a lot of body's of water around the country are less populated with channels, but we have liberal limits on them in Louisiana, because our waterways and lakes are near overpopulation. If their not caught and put to good use, overpopulation hurts the overall health of the fishery. Thanks for watching!!
