I just got the Townie 7D Go. The electric version of your bike. You want to do hills? That’s the bike for hills. Just turn on the power and you can easily peddle up the hills without standing. Love the Townie.
I've had a Townie for a couple weeks, and I love it! Great, smooth ride, solid, shifts perfectly, super comfortable. I upgraded to a better, Schwinn cruiser seat, as I found the stock seat too hard and uncomfortable. I also found I was leaning forward more than I wanted, (I'm 5'10" with pretty long arms, so I guess others would find this as well) so my bike tech added an adjustable stem, brought the handlebars up and back a few inches so I could sit fully upright. The bike is perfect now, and I love taking long, slow rides around the neighborhood at night. Can even take some moderate hills (maybe 40 degrees or so) without too much trouble, if you're not in a hurry. Great for dirt roads, grass, roads, trails, etc. Awesome, kick back, comfort bike.
I love my matte black Townie 21d. I got the back rack with a big trunk bag, foldout panniers, Shimano studded pedals, matte black fenders, dual ion 600 lights, a chrome motorcycle light for show up front, Garmin Edge 1000 GPS so I can find my way home, a great $$ Gel seat, and a helmet with a Cateye 700 light mounted on top since I love cruisin at night. Love the videos man and you are spot on, even with the 21 gears it's a bitch to get up hills despite altering the handlebars and some other stuff you just can't stand and pedal. But hey I'm just a fat guy who loves to cruise and clear my mind. The Townie is a great bike imo and I do get a few jerks saying hey your not a real cyclist and I say why because I don't hunch over with a skinny seat jammed up my ass on rubber band thin tires and have a 6k carbon frame, please go do your 100 mile bike ride, I'm cruisin baby. I have carried so much stuff on my bike and I got a loud truck like air horn so I call it the Townie Rig. When I want to go fast I take my hitch mount bike carrier and drive up the biggest hill and tell my wife to meet me when the road starts rising up. I've gotten up to 41mph (GPS) on the Townie and was freewheeling the pedals in the top gear it was so fast. I say if you pedal you're a real cyclist. Thanks for all the vids. Electra is now owned by Trek and they share a ton of components so you get a great bike for the money. Tig Welded 6061 aluminum baby.
Good job, Bubba Mike. Bought the same bike today for my wife and myself as i rehab my fractured ankle. The things you like on the Townie, I like too. Thank you for your videos. Well done, my friend.
Thanks for the review. I've been riding a Townie Sport (bigger frame, smaller saddle, 16 speed road bike gears, 700 wheels. Electra don't make them any more) for about four years. It's a lovely bike. I agree about the hills, but have found you need a different technique with this frame geometry. The Townie could be described as a semi recumbent bike and the crank is a long way forward of the saddle, so this means on a hill, you have to kind of pull back on the handlebars and use your stomach muscles a lot more than you would on a normal framed bike on which you could stand up, which, as you say, is almost impossible on a Townie.I use this technique for quick acceleration, too. Happy riding!
Hey Bubbba, this was a cool video! I've been riding my Townie for about a year now and I know it can be a bit uncomfortable uphill. What I do is set the seat a little tall (around my waist when standing next to the bike) and that way it's absolutely possible to stand up, the only problem is that the handlebars feel a tiny bit low when you're standing up, if they were an inch higher it would be perfect. If you lift them a little bit (or more like rotate them forward to place them higher), they feel too far when you're sitting, so basically I had to find the middle point. I don't do many hills so I'm comfortable so far. It is a great bike! Cheers from New York.
Thanks for sharing, I'm actually picking my Townie up tomorrow. I'm using it for going back and forth from work to try and get healthy. Luckily I don't have any big hills just a few little ones.
I have a 3 speed Electra Townie in a beautiful green. It’s a joy to ride. I love the flatfoot technology....I can always find the ground. I haven’t ridden a bike for a very long time and it is the easiest bike to ride. I highly recommended it!
@@sherryjellison My Electra Townie is still awesome! The only drawback is that you break with one handlebar and pedal backwards ....that is how the bike stops.
@@minniegc yes, I noticed that. I just bought one second hand and I noticed that there was only one handlebar brake. So far, it's nice. I just have to adjust the seat and handlebars to fit me
Awesome review - thanks! I live in London, UK, and stumbled across this review while looking for a review of the 2016 Electra Loft 3i (or 7D). While I love the style of the Townie, I don't think the Townie would be appropriate for London riding.
Just bought my Townie 7D 3 days ago; because I thought it would be a good investment in my L & R Knee; after having a total knee replacement on my L. Knee; and a scope on my R. Knee. First time ive ridden a bike since I was 15. The bike is well built; and easy to ride. Its also easy on my knee's. Highly Recommend to anyone older; or just looking to get/stay in shape.

My wife and I bought a pair for long, slow, sightseeing rides. Very comfortable and easy to ride! Great review!

Oh and the townie they sold me was the larger frame than my wife's, fits me better.. Flat Black
I have Electra black bike. Came with fat tires. Wonder if I can put less wide tires on it
These Townies come all with a Aluminium Frame, are they easy to carry for an Old Lady ?
Good review on the bikes. Have a good'n
