Nice setup. Still i believe You are doing it wrong.
Whenever liquid is pumped into the muscle, it stops at a dead end and fills the muscle.
This process makes it hard to create a quickly changing motion.
To improve the system it should be designed as a circulating system: There should be a injection valve on one end of the muscle and a ejection valve on the other side. And a secondary tube that allows for constant flow of the liquid.
A system like this would allow for a very fast contraption of the muscle. Also it can let the muscle remain in a exact position if needed - without all the negative effects of this dead end valve.
I hope you understand what i wanted to explain.

You're basically saying that the hydraulic muscle shouldn't ever by left empty but instead filled just enough to avoid excessive contractile forces from developing so it can instantly develop required muscle tension when required.
That's how I would have run it myself if I were to apply it to a robot.

well... yes. Thank you for explaining it the easy way :-).
Hope some of the guys who were involved in the project actually get to read this comment.
because i can't wait to see some actual robots working with these muscles.

I agree but are the valves not extremely expensive? Especially if you are using lots of these muscles? You would also have to take into consideration the setup of the pump, the valves and so on. Also, the valves need lots of maintenance to function in the long run
I think its a good way we are currently on but it still needs more research

This is quite possibly the least intuitive presentation I've ever seen
