    I wish I could have a few of those insulators! I need to run away from stupid old Hawaii and live where you live! Collect insulators with you! Cheers from Rylan! Btw those bowl insulators (I call the big insulator with the three sheds bowls if you don't mind) are considered fog bells because they are deeper and have an anti pollution build to them! This is amazing!

      Thank you!! Yes, I kind of thought they were fog bowl types. I don't see them being very common. Awesome, cheers from Michigan.

    My question is why is there so many downed powerlines

    • @VariacManiac
      @VariacManiac  4 роки тому

      Their abandoned. Left to decay. They once powered mining facilities that have gone defunct. Same went for the lines that powered them.

    Nice to see that you're collecting insulators again in the coming month I'll be doing my third insulator collection video in which I have so much stuff to show it'll be a long long video probably that big Ohio brass insulator I think it's the same exact one as the red glazed one that I have in my second insulator video anyway I love the insulators you got.

    We also have similar triple ribbed insulators in Russia, as at the beginning of the video. They are quite rare and valuable, produced in 1930-1950, called PR-3.5. These are dirt-resistant suspension insulators, and they were fastened together not with bolts, but with a clamp.

    now you have a lot of line insulators.
    Now you can go for a pothead terminations, and show how its done.
    There are a various of types. standard 3 phase potheads and the 3 eyed aliens.
    In denmark we also have this hv potheads, but we also have 30 different types of low voltage potheads and weatherheads, that can't be found In USA or other countries.

    Hey, I see these insulators on the side of a hiking trail at Chicot State Park, LA. I thought they were pretty cool and I didn't understand why the power company left them behind, but I had no use for them and sure wasn't going to carry them a few miles out to the car.

    • @VariacManiac
      @VariacManiac  4 роки тому +1

      That's cool, maybe you could bring a cart or wagon there and take them out. I just like to collect them. The power company leaves stuff behind usually if they forget about it, or they just don't care to take them out of there either.

    Would you, or is it ok to collect insulators during the coronavirus pandemic, with a stay home order is your area?

    • @VariacManiac

      Sure, it depends on your location and state. Make sure to keep a 6 foot distance and just try to avoid people. I'm sure you can, but you have to know what laws are implemented in your area, just stay safe and out of trouble :)

    Need advice on best way to remove porcelain guy wire strains from downed poles when the nuts & bolts on the cable connection clamp are rusted & fused. I carry vice grips, claw hammer, crescent wrench & wire cutters in my backpack when hunting but I think it will take big bolt cutters to cut through both of the thick guy wire cables. I don't want to carry big heavy bolt cutters on hunts & I've been thinking I should try cutting through the cables one wire at a time with my wire cutters, how do you get the guy wire strains off both cables when the bolts & nuts on the cable clamps are fused with rust? I've had to leave some nice porcelain strains behind & knowing how you remove them would be appreciated.

    • @VariacManiac
      @VariacManiac  5 років тому

      I've had similar situations. If you really want them, you could use a battery operated jigsaw to cut through the steel wire, it's a strong wire so this is going to take effort. I won't guarantee it but there are cable cutters that could cut these, but I don't know if they'll work. Try ratchet cable cutters. Or High leverage cable cutters. These are the solutions I would go to if I couldn't get one. Hope this information helps!

    • @allanpeck8523
      @allanpeck8523 5 років тому

      Thanks. I'm gonna get a hack saw with a blade for cutting through metal. I think that will work on cutting through the cable or I can saw through the bolt to remove the nuts on the cable end clamp then disassemble the whole thing. I know where those strains are at & I can always go back & get them once I find something that works & is light & easy to carry in my backpack. Thanks again.

      Update: I went back to several places & tried to cut the steel cables. You were right they are VERY strong & now I think only the jaws of life could cut through them - LOL..... I'll eventually find some where the nuts & bolts on the clamps aren't fused from decades of rust & I'll be able to remove them from the downed cable, I don't think I'm going to find any laying around loose on the ground. ☺
