Natalie's statement at the end nearly made me cry, dammit, we stan a supportive partner and ally, you got yourself a good partner there Soph, treasure her.
I think Natalie’s statement was incredible. I love the way she supported Sophie and how she stood up to all the nay-sayers, the bigots and those who accuse us of being predatory. Well done Natalies and Sophie!
It's such a relief to hear someone else say it. I'm a cis lesbian and seeing my identity being weaponized in the discourse against my own fking partner who I love more than anything has me seeing red. How dare they use us like this!
The term "transgender lobby" makes me imagine a pretty pastel hotel lobby with deep chairs, a keurig and surprisingly good lemonade. Saying this speech is excellent is both truth and a boost to algorithm. Keep being brilliant.
I just watched a bunch of speeches on Tiktok too. You all deserve all the visibility and BBC needs to pay for all the damage they've been doing to the trans community spreading this hate and panic. Thank you so much for your great work, Sophie
I am thankful for every transperson in my life-no, in the world. As someone whose language and culture have been put in danger and whose land has been occupied and appropriated, I want to say as well that Sophie's comment on solidarity is so important. Especially given that the media wants me to forget that my culture has and always will welcome transpeople. Every time a transperson comes out, the world gets that much brighter. There is nothing more beautiful than living as your authentic self.
"... how wondrous the experience of finding the person that you were always supposed to be and *becoming* them." "I'm so glad that you're you and I wouldn't want you to be anybody else, or have to pretend to be anybody else anymore." Brought tears to my eyes and I kept replaying these verses in particular over and over and over. Thank you Sophie, there aren't enough words to convey how this has resonated with me.
It can be so damn exhausting to just exist while trans in this country. So often I feel paralysed by the weight of the bigotry aimed at us, certain that there's no chance I'll ever get to just live my life in peace. But when I hear strong, proud trans people like yourself stand up and speak with all the confidence and conviction you did here it makes me feel hopeful. Trans people are far too strong and brave and proud to ever be stamped out by spineless cowards like them. We aren't going anywhere.
You're an absolute gem. I really appreciated you talking about how in real life most people are just fine with us. Last year, I worked as a door to door fundraiser for a homelessness charity, I knocked on thousands of people's doors in Liverpool during that time while being visibly trans and NOT ONE person had a problem with it. When we talk about the transphobia of these news outlets, it has nothing to do with being "overly sensitive", we know damn well that this isn't unbiased coverage, because if anyone in real life talked like that everyone and their mother would immediately see they're a bigot.
Hi sophie. This was a great speech very proud of you for your bravery. I hope you can coordinate with shaun and his complaints policy. WE ALL FIGHT TOGETHER
Thank you for being loud and for being seen. I am trans, and I live in North Carolina. I could not be out without the support of my partner. I did not have that strength on my own. Sophie and Nat, we are all stronger because of your words. You stand at the steps of a hive of bigots, and you put them to shame. Thank you
From a cis American man THANK YOU for being so loud and proud of who you are. You're a fantastic speaker and I truly believe you will help shape the positive change we need to see. ♥
I definitely see her becoming a historic figure of the fight for trans rights in Britain. Sophie, you're amazing and although I don't know you, I feel deep care and love for you. I'm so glad to be alive in the same time as you. Thank you for everything. Lots of love from Brazil
I laughed, I cried. The speech was fantastic. You're fantastic. Thank you for all you do, Sophie. It takes so much strength to stand up against such overwhelming bigotry and hatred. You inspire me to advocate similarly.
Given the BBC's overwhelming amount of simping for Ghislaine Maxwell, is it any wonder the idea of listening to and believing what young people tell you is anathema to them?
You write for a living and it shows in the quality and power of your words. I'm glad this was recorded so I could see it, being across the planet and having my international experiences filtered into gruel, I don't often get to see or hear moments like this.
Awesome work. Your partners piece was short but perfect. We need more and more artists who, if obviously able, can showcase organising/rallies/demos irl. There's only so much UA-cam watching can teach us, we actually have to do stuff. It's the best way to learn. You'll constantly make mistakes but you have to make as many connections as possible and try. We have a world to save. If anyone is reading this and is contemplating joining an organisation, do it! Even if it isn't perfectly ascribed to your current political affiliation, find an issue you're especially passionate about and just give it a go. Any good org will have both digital and in-person campaigns/actions. Each according to their ability.
This means a lot Sophie, having something that can really display what that firehouse of gruel feels like is what I’ve always needed. Every time I’m confront with this I freeze up, I’m in a place where fawning is safer that fighting but I think that the person in my life can process this better than my poor emotional descriptor. I really needed this, thank you.
An excellent speech! As an American from a rural region of the US I appreciate your work and your commitment to what's right. Fuck the BBC, and fuck the greedy bigots they work for. Please keep fighting. -Much Love.
Thank you. I needed to see one of us up there giving a passionate speech about the life we lead every day. The actual trans experience. Not what everybody tells you it is. Not the existential weight associated with it that is PUT UPON US by society. Straight from the horse’s mouth with a bit of spice. Trans joy is Trans liberation. We are the sole truthful arbiters of our individual experience.
BEAUTIFUL, Sophie! Shaking, right now!We stand with you! As a Pansexual in the US, all I want to do is hug you, and stand with you against these corporations!
Sophie, can't begin to express how much I admire and look up to you (and it has absolutely nothing to do with English not being my first language)! You make the world a better rock to be spinning on. Love from Brazil!
You did an amazing job!! 💕 I got choked up listening to you and your partner speak so passionately. I only hope that the people who need to hear this will actually listen.
Ah brings me to tears. I wish i didnt have to worry about the trans people in my life. I don't like talking to my younger sibling about bigotry that may happen to them, but I also dont want them to find out the hard way.
Such a good speech by both of you. I’m sorry for the crap you have to go through, that you have to justify your existence on a daily basis. I want you to know that I care about you and that I will do whatever I can to help people like you.
don't mind me radicalizing in the corner while my parents get ready for the American football championship. brilliant speech thank you for speaking up for human rights
You’re honestly a fantastic speaker, you’re not only very eloquent in your choice of words but you’re also very good at the delivery of it itself, you’ve been a massive standout at both of these protests and that’s saying something!
Solidarity comrade Sophie, Natalie, and solidarity to all trans brothers, sisters, and nb’s dealing with bs and violence on Terf Island. ✊✌️❤️🏴♾ PS - Idk if “Terf Island” is offensive or not, I’ve heard many US leftists use the term, and I’m one of those, so I picked it up. If it is problematic in the eyes of trans people in the UK though, then please tell me and I’ll remove that and stop using it altogether. PPS - Also, this really was fantastic, Soph. If I were trans, I’d be so proud to have a sister and advocate like yourself speaking out for our rights. As it stands, I’m proud you’re a comrade and very moved by your speech and your activism. ✊♾
Seeing someone like you, there in the heart of the Great Evil Empire, speaking what you speaks, gives me hope in the world. Tu é Pica Sophie!!!! (It means you're more than amazing)
I have only recently found your content via Maggie Mae Fish! You are a fantastic tonic to the casual racism and bro mentality that infests the place I live in... if only there were more people like you! Keep on rocking, Sophie!
Thank you so much for doing this speech. I wouldn't have the guts to go out there and speak my mind. I was so invested that i watched the video in full as soon as I got home and sat on the floor. Really powerful ❤️
Such a great speech! You were amazing Sophie. And natalie's Bit at the end gave me shivers. It encapsulates how i, as a cis Woman, feel when Reading all those articles about how poor and vulnerable I am. How i need to be protected from all the evil hormones doctors and the "men" and how the Public toilets are THE venue for that. No. You Just want a pretty lamp that you can chivalrously protect. If you actually cared about women's safety, you wouldnt Cut funding to Safehouses and women's shelters. You would have proper measures in place, when women leave abusive relationships. You would repeal that horrible law that r*pe is only that when penetration with the Male s*x Organ occurs (trying to dance around the Word for UA-cam). You dont give a damn about cis women. You hate hate trans people.
I so wish I could up-thumbs this 1,000 times over. Such a great performance. I loved the support of your partner, the way she nailed it all in a nutshell by identifying the possessive, entitled recourse to the old, traditional framework of male domination. The thing is, these middle class snob haters are so blinded by their malice and venom, they simply cannot see the trap that they are falling into. When the men behind the Gender Critical Circus have achieved what they want with trans people, they’ll go after the rest of the LGB community and then also, onto other minorities. They’re either wilfully blind and stupid, or they know what is happening, but think that their wealth, connections and ‘social status’ will insulate them from it. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that they have a suitcase with passport and travel essentials already packed behind the front door, so that if they do need to make a brisk exit, they are able to do so.. Also, on the nature of predatory types: there are at least a few so-called ‘gender criticals’ who have openly expressed a fetishisation of young transgender bodies, both on twitter and on the LGB Alliance UA-cam channel. One of them in particular, was instrumental in getting me banned from the twitter platform by calling in favours and rallying the brain-dead sycophants behind her. Hopefully, Stonewall will prevail in what amounts to a legal test case, though given the current configuration of ‘elite’ effluvia in British politics and establishment, it is very likely that they could lose.
Great stuff. It's a short way from my country to yours but it seems like you're closer to the US than the Netherlands whenever I hear about the stuff going on there. The Netherlands ain't perfect by any stretch, btw. But everything I hear about Great Britain on this subject just gets worse. I hope things get better soon, but fear the fight is going to be a long one.
Yeah, our government recently apologized for having it in law until 2014 that trans peopel could only legally change their gender if they were sterilized. But I guess apoligizing for transphobia is a lot better than... unapologetically raging on with the transphpobia, like the UK is doing.
Fantastic and very moving speech. I always get really teary and emotional when you talk about trans joy cause it just hits such a note for me (and many others I'm sure).
to be honest when i saw that article my reaction was just apathy, "this is tuesday" this is how it always is, that article may have been particularly egregious but it's saying the same shit they always say. and if we want to fight this bullshit we have to fight the institutions that say this constantly not just the people saying it out loud! this speech was excellent sophie thank you.
Beautiful speech, thank you Sophie. Really, thank you for everything you’ve done. I’m so proud of both you and Natalie and I wish you safety and happiness.
Powerful speech as always Sophie, thank you for all that you do. You are an inspiration to us all and people such as yourself are truly the best among us, particularly during a such a dark time when what little rights we have feel as if they are at threat of being further diminished to the point where we're not viewed even through the lens of second class citizens. I am sooo tired of being made a scapegoat and political talking point that acts like a hook that bigots dangle in front of the un and misinformed masses in hopes to further spread their discriminatory tripe. Please continue fighting the good fight for as long as you are able and if you and your wonderful partner can manage, be safe. It is a terrible ask, made all the more unfortunate that simply advocating for our shared humanity is dangerous business.
Producing incredibly high quality media analysis and amazing protest speeches. Also a fantastic mask combo with the outfit. You're an inspiration.
You are an international treasure, Sophie.
Sophie walks around the world
Frontiers cannot bar her
Natalie's statement at the end nearly made me cry, dammit, we stan a supportive partner and ally, you got yourself a good partner there Soph, treasure her.

The term "transgender lobby" makes me imagine a pretty pastel hotel lobby with deep chairs, a keurig and surprisingly good lemonade. Saying this speech is excellent is both truth and a boost to algorithm. Keep being brilliant.
It would be an incredible lobby, with great vibes, and I'd very much wish to visit.
After the speech, Sophie put the phone down, and flew into the air to the tune of RATM's "Wake Up".
I just watched a bunch of speeches on Tiktok too. You all deserve all the visibility and BBC needs to pay for all the damage they've been doing to the trans community spreading this hate and panic. Thank you so much for your great work, Sophie

I can not wait or your new matrix review. You being happy is such a joy to watch
A brilliant speech, and a powerful closer there from Natalie. How I wish I could've been there to add my cheers to the crowd.
Me too! ❤️❤️❤️
Great job, Sophie!! I saw you practice this live on Twitch, and you've done great every time I've seen you give it. Keep up the great work 💙💟💖
You literally make me feel safer being myself, Sophie. Thank you for being such a treasure.
Thank YOU!
Low key felt chills when you said “we’re bringing the fight to you now”
Thank you for being loud and for being seen.
I am trans, and I live in North Carolina. I could not be out without the support of my partner. I did not have that strength on my own.

This is such a powerful speech I'm in absolute awe. Thank you.
The eloquency you showed in a public and live manifestation had me at awe and it's really inspiring
"j k rowling" *crowd boos*
the only appropriate response to that name, really
This means a lot Sophie, having something that can really display what that firehouse of gruel feels like is what I’ve always needed. Solidarity comrade! ✊️
I saw this live, and the reaction from the crowd goes to show how brillant it was. Well done! Amazing work
Very glad you and the others were there to show support.
I love and appreciate what you do Sophie, Natalie, and everyone there for their support and voice.

got all choked up. thank you for this! informative, persuasive, passionate. speak truth to power!
that umbrella is so very delightfully mushroom shaped
Seeing someone like you, there in the heart of the Great Evil Empire, speaking what you speaks, gives me hope in the world.

great speech! as always, you're very funny, but make your important points throughout. i'm so proud of everyone who attended!
Great speech! I admire your public speaking skills even though public speaking is scary.
(also!! Great umbrella assistant!)
Such a powerful speech. As an American, I cannot imagine the weight of transphobia you are experiencing. Change will come 🧡
Thank you for this incredible piece. I'd love to share the transcript (heh), would you consider posting it?
Thank you so much for doing this speech. I wouldn't have the guts to go out there and speak my mind. I was so invested that i watched the video in full as soon as I got home and sat on the floor. Really powerful ❤️
Turns out every social issue boils down to divide and conquer tactics of the working class by the ownership class. Who knew?
Great job! Very well written speech and I’m so happy you and Natalie got the chance to make your voices heard!
👏👏👏

I love your work, I love your writing, and thank you for doing shit like this, I can’t wait to continue supporting you.
Thank you for this pain and anger, may it light a fire in many hearts!
Thank you for this, from Germany. Will show this around 💙🤍💗
Brava, Sophie! 👏🏻 Incredibly well said.
Thanks Sophie and Natalie ❤️
You have done more for the trans community that every government ever
Thank you for everything Sophie 🥺💖 You're an IN-credible inspiration
All of the love from Australia, Sophie. You're an amazing person.
Fantastic and very moving speech. I always get really teary and emotional when you talk about trans joy cause it just hits such a note for me (and many others I'm sure).
One of the most important speeches I’ve ever heard.

Good luck in England. I hope #Transrights advance more in my country too. People deserve to be treated with dignity.
Beautiful speech, thank you Sophie. Really, thank you for everything you’ve done. I’m so proud of both you and Natalie and I wish you safety and happiness.
Thanks sister!!! I am from Switzerland but i will stand in solidarity from my sisters in the UK.
Genuinely incredible.

A spectacular orator with a spectacular message.
Crying at this, thank you Sophie and Nat!
This was incredible. Both you and your partner did great.
This is powerful, thank you so much for this
Incredible speech. Keep fighting the good fight, all my love and support for my British trans siblings✊
This is so amazing, and it's so cathartic seeing someone taking the fight to the media, and fighting against their inflammatory tactics.
Awe inspiring stuff. You and Natalie are inspiring. Brought tears to my eyes.
this speech is INCREDIBLE
Thank you for speaking what few are able to put into words.
Great speech Sophie and props to Natalie for also speaking up
Absolutely outstanding speech!
God protect you, Sophie. Never give up.
This was beautiful and you are both perfect.
I love you so much for this 🥺 thank you
thank you thank you thank you
Totally awesome speech, I wish I was there 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈💜
So happy to see so many comments already with this just uploaded
Awesome, well done both of you!!!
